yep, just an hour ago, i turn on my xbox and low and behold: the 3 red lights of death! and its going to take 3 weeks to get it repaired then, just a few minutes ago, i sent a message to my friends using xbox.com saying that i got the 3 red lights. then, i JUST got off the phone with my friend saying that he turned on his xbox, red my message, and his xbox turned off with 3 red lights. he then turned it back on and it works, but i think its only a matter of time before his is totally dead.

so, anyone else encounter the 3 red lights of death?

I have and the first thing you need to do is contact the support line. They'll give you a detailed list of things to do to try and fix it. Also if you could do something for me I could help you diagnose the problem. Turn on the 360 and let it go to the 3 lights of death. Then hold down the sync button and press the disc eject button. This will cause 1, 2, 3, or 4 lights to turn on. If you press it three more times you'll get a 4 digit code.

4 lights - 0
1 light - 1
2 lights - 2
3 lights - 3

if the code is 1020 (1 light, 4 lights, 2 lights, 4 lights) then the xbox doesn't know what's wrong. If this is the case you might as well just call and ask for the repair center address.

BTW - 1-800-4MY-XBOX is support center.

You have to keep pressing the eject button, but whatever.

The reason why every xbox breaks, is because the owner keeps it in an area where the air intake is poor. You need to keep the fan area clear of blockage. Its also a good idea to give at least half a metre of free room for the fans, because if you don't, the fans may just be sucking in hot air and not doing much good for your console.

So when you get it back, do what Ive said and it should last you much longer.

The only reason why it broke in the first place, was because the hardware got too hot and probably overheated. So when it over heats too many times, its bound to stop working completely.

Just think of your Xbox as a pair of lungs. If they don't get plenty of fresh air, then the body starts to deteriorate.

@higgins: naw... try again. my xbox was standing upright(which is good for ventilation) and it was in a good place with nothing but itself. im convinced that it was just because i had one of the first-shipment xbox360s that supposedly all had problems. i figured mine would eventually die. but it lasted a good year and a couple months. many people's died within the first 2 weeks

@everyone, but pertaining to what Darkowen said: i just got my parts for my first PC that ive ever built by my self. ill post pics of it in a bit... heres the specs:

Case: Sunbeam Transformer IC-TR-BA Black Steel ATX Full Tower
Motherboard: ABIT AW9D-MAX Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 975X ATX
RAM: G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Memory
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor
Graphics Card: EVGA GeForce 8800GTX 768MB 384-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 SUPERCLOCKED HDCP Video Card
Power Supply: OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI ATX12V 700W Power Supply

and its going to have vista home premium once i plug it in and test it(which will be... like, now! EDIT: after i eat dinner ) and im going to have a second harddrive with XP home on it so that i can run DBP(since the computer im currently using is going to be given to my sister)

EDIT: eh, ill make a new post for this...

It has been confirmed that GoW is heading to PC's (http://www.n4g.com/pc/NewsCom-28617.aspx), and it has also supposedly been confirmed that LP is going to PC also. So that's 2/3 of those games he can (eventually) play. As well as the fact that they will most likely run under DX10 for Windows...
