This is how to really annoy a Dr Who fan on April fools day.

1. Pick somebody who was out and missed it.
2. Promise to record it for them
3. Invite them to watch it on a 12-foot screen (avoid drool)
4. Sit them down, put in the DVD and play the movie attached to this post.
5. Enjoy!

Indeed, very good I didn't manage to pull any pranks this year..

Personally, I'd of tried to get the intro to loop (without the text) and just see how long they sat watching the time warp thing.

I have never watched Dr. Who which, for someone who's a self-acclaimed British TV specialist (and handsome to boot) is a source of great embarrassment.

I've been wondering if it's worth buying/starting with the series with Christopher Eccleston (who I liked a lot in Shallow Grave and Cracker)? It's probably not a good idea to start with the 70's series as I don't have the benefit of childhood memories... what say ye, Dr. Who specialists?

It probably would be - previous series would probably seem a bit basic nowadays, especially if you aren't a rabid Dr Who fan.

Although, you do need to see The Unearthly Child (the very first episode) at some point

Really you'd need a lot of time on your hands to watch the whole back catalogue of Dr.Who - but Eccleston did make a pretty good Dr.Who so your probably best to start there. I'd also suggest 28 Days Later if you like that dude, looking forward to 28 Weeks Later, which should be out soon (might actually go to the cinema to see that, there hasn't been a film worth spending money on for a while now [not even 300]).

I spent a childhood behind the couch because of Dr.Who, it was Davros, I have nothing against Daleks on their own, or Cybermen, but Davros is just creepy and scared the crud out of me.

Yes - he's not the sort of person you would want to meet whilst walking down a dark alley on Skaro.

It might also be worth watching the film (not the awful Peter Cushing ones though), but the last one. Aside from the somewhat Americanisation of it, it is pretty good. Plus the title music is better - it really needs re-doing for the next series.

I'm ahead of you on that one mate. I own it on DVD... very good film, though I like the "first half" of the movie (the one where Eccleston isn't in yet) a lot more than the second half - Not due to Eccleston being there, mind... I just like the whole eeriness of abandoned London.

Yeah, I really loved the start of that movie, imagine waking up to a deserted London, and being able to do what the hell you like - of course things go a bit wrong once he gets to the church, but I thought the bit where they find to troops fairly depressing. I suppose there's irony or something there, but when the Dad dies that was really horrible, I wish they'd kept him in, maybe he goes missing and returns at the end to help save them.

I had never seen Doctor Who, and had absolutely no idea what it was about--- doubtful that it even gets shown here.

Last night I watched the first episode of the new series, and aside from some small cheese factor (garbage can burps after eating the boyfriend), the concept was very cool I will probably watch a few more episodes to get a better feel.

...A garlic darlic?

It's Dalek - much easier to screech in that shrill voice of theirs, I don't think Darlic sounds quite so menacing, it sounds like a good name for a cat though.

It's far easier to make a corrupt DVD than it ever was to make a dodgy video tape For a start, nobody really knows what a damaged DVD is going to do until it does it.

Haha great thought, annoying doctor who fans is fairly easy, just insult the special effects, the acting and plot, perhaps say something like "The guy who wrote this series must have been serious jammed up with LSD". It works, well its worked when shooting down philosophical writers in Relious Studies, I'm sure the same principle applies to Dr Who.

You must be referring to an older series. We're only on episode 1 of the new series. In which case you're taking about Billie Piper, not Freema Agyeman who's the new assistant. But both of them are quite pleasant to teh eye

I was wondering when you would chip in with that

The only real problem I have with Dr Who (note the abbreviation), is that a) the SFX need to be improved somewhat and b) its seems that the produces are very keen on getting known people onto the show, for no real reason...

Oh, and a new title sequence (with decent music this time), is needed...

Yes, that Rhino on Saturday, I've seen him in other stuff. Blue Planet I think, and he was even an extra in Meerkat Manor. He shows up a lot on Animal Planet too.

What about the 'Zavirax' duo? They've become quite popular ever since their début in The Matrix Reloaded.

Knowing Catherine Tate before Doctor Who spoiled that episode. It was good, but the suspension of disbelief was broken by a number of other characters breaking out every few seconds.

A bit off topic but what's the general opinion on Torchwood? All I know is that it has Captain Jack in it... Kinda curious about it.

I didn't particularly like Catherine Tate Show series - I felt it a bit contrived and generally not that funny. She was ok in Wild West, I guess. I don't really know her from anywhere else.

(On a side note, Tate was still better in her series than Julia Davies on Nighty Night - which is an absolutely appalling show after the great Human Remains)
