Hey everyone, I'm looking to go to see 300 tomorrow and I'm a bit confused as to what the rules are on getting people in who are underage. I'm plenty old enough (18) but my gf is only 16. From what I've found so far, the ratings specify that "anyone under age must be accompanied by an adult or guardian" In my searches I've read both sides of the arguement (must be 18 or must be 21 and also they might not even check)

What I need is some first-hand advice from someone who's actually had to do this. I appreciate those trying to help by looking on the internet for answers but don't waste your time. Common websites are no help. Thanks to anyone who can help me.

yeah... i think LEGALLY you need to be 21 to accompany a minor but they rarely card, and if you do show them your 18 and say she is also... its HIGHLY unlikely that they will ask for her ID also... and if they do... just play stupid and act like you thought u were old enough and the worst case scenario is u look a little dumb.

In australia your a allowed to drive from 16/2 with a licensed driver
In australia your legally bound as an adult from 18
In australia you can drink from 18 as well as mandatory voting.
It really depends on your country/state.

In the US i hear you have to be 21 to drink etc..

What year can you legally be bound to adult rules when it comes to the courts is when I would assume your an adult.

I don't think it will matter as long as you buy the tickets. They can't refuse to sell you two tickets no matter who they're for. (That reminded me of a Southpark episode). And the only other person who could card you is the usher, which I doubt they will because you already have the tickets anyway.

Why don't you just ask the cinema?

No, thats state law, it varies, federal law dictates 18 to drink, so...little known fact, you can drink on federal property at 18 in the united states, like military bases, federal parks, etc...

Have your girlfriend wait outside while you buy the two tickets, then go in together once you have them. Oh, and I'm assuming her parents are 'OK' with her seeing it, because otherwise I would not condone any such action.

Or buy tickets to the wrong movie, then go to the toilet.. come back and go into a different screen... or go to the movie and when you come out sneak into another screen - both work just as well

It's rated 15 here. 16 is a fine age to see it. I don't see how you could enjoy it more at any other age. Besides, it's a history lesson - never mess with the Greeks.

that probably won't work, they'll ask to see her. i tried to get in and didnt have id and im short so they wouldnt believe me when i told them i was 1*.

i would go with zotoasters idea. with the cinema here you can get tickets to a film and just walk straight into another film.

And when you say "Sorry, my friend's running late", are they really going to deny you the purchase of an additional ticket?

Depends really I suppose, its pretty much easy to get into the Cinema underaged, but when we went to see hot fuzz (A 15) my sister was asked for ID...although she's 23 and is 24 in a couple of weeks.

Best thing to do is just send one person to buy all of the tickets, our cinema doesn't ask questions then, especially when you ask for adult tickets. The other alternative is to be friends with someone who works there or knows the manager, my friend Ben is friends with the manager of our cinema and gets 3 friends and himself in for free and no age questions asked (He's 19, so the manager would assume all of his friends are either 18, 19 or 20 )

Yes states say 21, but that is because the Federal Government told them if it was not 21 they would get no money from the FHC. So yes the states made it 21 by having their arms twisted. When I was growing up every state around me had a different drinking age, some 18, 19 and 21.

As for the movie, just buy the tickets that is the only time anyone is going to ID you anyway.

In the US, isn't it illegal to date someone under the age of 18 when you are a legal adult?

As far as the movies go, isn't it 17 the age of requirement (guardians age)?

I would not go. Not because of age, but because, regardless of the age, it's stupid to whatch R-rated movies.

I was gonna do what zoto said... buy tickets for something like "Meet the Robinsons" then just walk into 300. But my brother stopped me. He wouldn't let me go beecause it had 'obsene and dirty sex scenes'. Dangit.

from reviews i've read yes it does have mostly nude sex scenes that i wouldn't want to see.

and although your standards might not be the same as mine. it seems like that wouldn't be a wise choice with your girlfriend.

I have to say that the sex scene in question is on par with daytime television soap operas. A little more perhaps, but not over the top. Not as disturbing as Dennis Franz's butt on NYPD Blue.

To be frank, the director probably only put it in there to seem more serious about the movie haha.

Where did you hear that? It's simply not true.

I used to work in a movie theatre, and we would always refuse to sell tickets to underaged kids. Some kids thought they were smart by using their interac cards to buy the tickets from the automated machines, but as the tickets were different colours, we weren't easily fooled.

Highly doubt it. Illegal to sleep with someone under aged 18, yes (even if you're 18 and she's 17). But to date? Not as far as I know. In Canada it's something like 14, which is waaay too low IMHO.

Why? It was an awesome movie. True cinematic brilliance.

Hm... that's how a bunch of my sophomore friends got in. No one stopped them

Anyway, 300 wasnt playing till later so we saw blades of glory first, then walked into 300. (and played some ddr in between )

Here you're allowed to sleep with someone as long as you're both older than 16 and within a 2-year age gap of each other. It's ironic, because you can have sex when you're 16 but can't watch porn until you're 18. I don't think there's any rules on dating, after all, Rick Springfield dated and lived with the girl from The Exorcist when he was 24 and she was 15. Weird, I know.

Not necessarily, some places have signs that say

"We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone"

But that generally does work.

What does R rated stand for? I saw 300 and there was nothing ridiculous in it, sure there was some graphic violence, but nothing particularly realistic, and I can't remember any kind of significant sex scene

I don't think I was clear. If you're old enough to buy tickets for a certain rating, you're allowed to buy as many tickets as you want (maybe not the whole theater worth, but a reasonable number).

I remember when I was younger than 14 and trying to buy tickets to see movies that were 14-A (i.e. Speed). Back then they would simply ask us what year we were born. Good thing I was quick and named a year that was 15 years earlier. They didn't even ask for ID back then.

me, and two friends of mine watched this movie two weeks ago..
I'm 17, he's 16, and she's 14... we all came in with no problem, and i bought all the tickets...
Just act normal, and you can see any movie you want...

From my experience:

Normal = Mature
Mature = Any movie you want!
