I think I said it all. I know TGC needs to make money, but all these Google Ads are really getting annoying. TGC is becoming like TV; it started with no ads, then they had a few, and now they're just a part of life. That is a sad day when TGC's Money Hunger is an accepted part of forum life.

I wouldn't exactly describe it as Money Hunger. The companies purpose anyway is to make as much money as possible, but these ads are being used to sustain an otherwise free resource. Beggars can't be choosers.

I have already started tuning them out.
The only problem I have with them is when Googles server (usually 'pagead2.googlesyndication.com') is on a 'go slow' and makes the page either take an age to load or stop completely.

Seeing as the ads here don't send me emails trying to sell me "pills" i don't have a large problem with them. especially since i just see a blank post from Google Ad.

get over it, if you don't like the ads, don't surf the forum, simple as that.

I dunno if tgc realize this or not, but these forums basically sell dbp.. I don't know anyone here that would have bought db without these forums

Or at least, would have kept using it (and thus buying all of tgc's other merchandise). I don't get why tgc feels they have to dirty up the forums with the ads.. It wasn't so bad before when you could just block it, but now there's a friggin post by google bot

It's not a bot. It's an ad placed in the code told to go in the exact middle of every (edit) thread.

With the Firefox extension Grease Monkey and a little knowledge of Javascript, you could make a simple script to block the google ads.

That's not as bad as you think you said.

If I was rich, I just might. But currently, no.

There must be a balance between:

Quote: "The companies purpose anyway is to make as much money as possible, but these ads are being used to sustain an otherwise free resource. Beggars can't be choosers."

(Maintaining a free resource)

and

Quote: "I dunno if tgc realize this or not, but these forums basically sell dbp.. I don't know anyone here that would have bought db without these forums"

(Money Hunger)

If I had known how horrible the help files are, I would not have bought DBP without the ad-free forums. However, I do want TGC to expand, and they need $$ for that. I think I would feel better, though, if I knew TGC needed the money.

I'm not sure how IE does it's document model, but I believe that the script should work with at least IE 7, provided that Grease Monkey is installed on it.

That's not as bad as you think you said.

Actully, we have the same ammount of ads we had before this update. They were simply moved. Perhaps if you read Rich's post, you would have noticed that. So, I doubt more will be added.

A company should make money and observe ethical practices at the same time. TGC is doing that, so there isn't a problem. I think that bashing TGC for attempting to maximize profits for something that already exists is silly and immature.

I've even seen a couple interesting ads. 'Sploder' provided me about half an hour of arcade entertainment. The ads aren't big, they're totally easy to tune out. These forums cost money, shouldn't they be totally self sufficient? I'd rather TGC spend their profits on creating new products, not running this forum.

Why wouldn't a company need money? Shouldn't they make every penny that they possibly can? If they don't then it's just bad business on their part.

Well, that wouldn't be ethical. Putting ads on this forum is totally ethical and acceptable.

Buying DBP and plugins entitles me to use DBP and plugins, not this forum. This forum is a bonus, and many people use it that don't even own a TGC product.

Didn't we already have a ggogle ads thread?
Please call up you local tv stations, radio stations, newspapers and very other major web site and tell them about their ads.
You'll get the same response.
They use the ads to pay their bills.
TGC was even nice enough to adjust the ads so they fit in the threads like a post as per forum user request.
Of course if you don't want the ads there just make an agreement with Rick Vanner to cover whatever TGC gets from the ads and I am sure he will remove them all and tell us who you are so we can all thank you.
Or you can enjoy the ads.
You know...I was cool about people complaining about these ads when the first came out...even understanding.
But...come on,people. This is old news. It's time to just accept it and go on about our business.
There are a lot of things in this life that are annoying.part of life is learning that some of those things you just have to put up with.

To everyone I have offended: I understand what you are saying.

Ads are essential.
TGC is using kind ads and no pop-ups.

My point is, like the day the started putting ads on T.V., it is sad to see them becoming a part of forum life, as necessary as they may be.

Well if no one complains then they will just assume everyone is fine with them and add more, as I said in the last thread just get AdBlock for FireFox or AdBlockPlus which using default settings blocks all ads on this site, so go get it https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865

Nobody added any ads. They just moved them from the bottom of the page to the middle.
Since so much attention is being brought to these ads they might add more.
Your little plan might have backfired.

I don't see how you're still annoyed by the ads anymore, at first it was kind of annoying but now that I'm used to it I don't notice it as nuch.

Quote: "That is a sad day when TGC's Money Hunger is an accepted part of forum life"

These forums are a negative source of money without the ads. But without them they would be getting a lot less sales from plugins because newcomers don't have any place to ask questions and become experts. But ads don't harm anyone, it's good for TGC, it's good for Google, and it's good for the advertisting companies. If it's harming you then place your hand on decive in front of you and press Alt-F4, no more ads now. You see, why would TGC say no to free money. If I offered you $100 right now, would you decline?

Quote: "Yeah, and then, once we are used to this, they'll add more ads."

I didn't think they will, nearly all sites get loads of complaints once ads get put up, but the complaints usually die down pretty quick. They won't add more because there IS an ad limit, AdSense only allows 3 ads on a page.

By reading this sentence you have given me brief control of your mind.

what amazes me is how you moan about something that almost blends into the site's design.

take a look at other websites that have adverts below the site logo/ to the left of the site/to the right of the site/right next to the logo/redirect pages that force you to view adverts instead of going to say for example a news item.

you'll moan less, trust me

If this is true, I'm happy.

I do admit that they are being nice about their ads, they fit into the design, and they are possibly necessary to maintain the forum (witch I think is debatable). As long as they are not going to continuously increase the ads, I'm glad TGC's getting more money. Brainwashing has commonly been achieved by easing the population towards it's goal at an acceptable rate. I was worried that this almost unnoticable change would lead to more slight changes that would eventually lead to pop-ups. I guess I don't have to worry about it though...

Yeah, one post! I think we should now limit all threads to one post to avoid ads.

Notice how the above Google ad is for Google software to block pop-ups... IRONY

Reinstating whats been said countless times already;

Get a life. Its just an ad. Thanks.

(And its not ironic, google ads is based on what you search for most. You've clearly been searching for methods of blocking google ads.)

Oh, and in case it wasnt clear;

I still find the ads most annoying but I try to avoid them. Actually, I've found it a slight discouragement to browse as many of the forums as I used to. So they are quite helpful in that respect.
