all the new texas chainsaw massacre remakes were awful. they wern't scary AT ALL and didn't live up to the piss-yourself original one.

I recently saw Shooter with mark whalburg, that was actually damn funny, he shoots the pistol out of a guy's hand at over a mile distance on top of a mountain. "he took the shot, he actually took the shot!!" and a few seconds later his arm is blown off!

Also gotta love it when he takes down the Helicopter with the 50 caliber barret sniper

The sad fact is that i can read script, but i just cant write it.

The breakfast club was damn cheesy, but I still find myself watching it - in fact I'm guessing I've seen it 10 times at least. I always had a soft spot for these brat pack movies from the 80's, like St.Elmos Fire, Ferris Bueller, the Goonies, and Lost Boys. Goonies rocked, Hey you guuuuyyyyysss! - I have a great Goonies T-shirt . There are a lot of 80's movies that severely sucked, but everyone loves the classics, my sons fave movie is The Goonies, or Pirates of the Carribean, depending on his mood.

Lost Boys is one of my fave movies too, like the first vampire movie that did things right - just an awesome movie that sits proudly alongside the other 80's classics (Ghostbusters, The Karate Kid, Gremlins, ET, Aliens...). It's more and more diluted these days, but you remember the real classics - in 5 years time we won't give a hoot about 300, or Hot Fuzz, or LOTR. These movies might be remembered for how much money they made, or how big they were - but the top spot should be reserved for something that had to work a bit harder than modern movies.

Ill remember Hot Fuzz, that and shaun of the dead pretty much are modern american comedies from england that we can relate to, and love. I guess its different, but Im sure people said the same thing about Monty Python, but to this day its awesome! I love those actors haha.

I really, REALLY loved Donnie Darko. Its such an odd film which you have to seriously think about afterwards to put the pieces together. Its the kind of thing which can provoke lots of different meanings (and discussions) for different people. I haven't watched the directors cut version as it apparently explains a lot more and ruins the whole 'puzzle' element.
I guess its similar to 'Fight Club' in that many many people just don't understand what the film is about. I have read reviews by top newspaper columnists who just thought it was a testosterone filled movie about people punching each other. They soooo missed the point. Its a fantastic story about commercialism with some amazing editing and cinematography, and a great twist. Even though I have seen it many times I still want to keep watching it and seem to pick up on little things in the background or things which I dismissed before. Marvellous.

Edit: The Breakfast Club is indeed a good movie. Its probably not cool to say it, but I like a lot of John Hughes movies. If you are just in the mood for a laugh and a disposable 'feel good' film they are great. Ferris Bueller was excellent, so was Uncle Buck. I still love Weird Science but that might have a lot to do with Kelly LeBrock

American comedies from England? Eh?

Fight club was also awesome. Brilliant movie.

Vanilla Skies was also really good (once you got yourself to admit it), as was that one where he made himself forget his girlfriend. Don't remember the name now....

Oh, and I just watched the new Pink Panther last night. Loved the originals when I was a kid. The new one is slated left right and centre, but they are mainly complaining about it copying the original then I was all for it. And pretty much thought it was pretty funny. Yep I laughed. Can't help it with stupid slapstick and testicle jokes

Cheers

Argh, I meant American loved comedies from england haha. Most english comedies get lost in confusion over here, but Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz have been warmly welcomed.

Yeah, thought that was what you meant. As it happens I loved Spaced (watch that if you like Shaun and Hot Fuzz, oh and Star Wars for the references) but for some reason wasn't that bothered with Shaun. Especially the last half of it. Could be that I'm not so big with zombie films (much preferred day of the triffids to 28 days later). Is Hot Fuzz good? Keep meaning to watch it.

I found that after watching Shaun a few times it grew on me - the part where they're beating the barman to the music of queen is just hilarious. I think you'd like Hot Fuzz, if you like Spaced you should like pretty much anything they've done. They can drag a little, but that's the British way, give them a few laughs then wonder about aimlessly for 3/4 of an hour before arming the grannies.

I wish the Mighty Boosh guys would follow Pegg's lead and make a movie - Boosh is so surreal, it makes Monty Python look like House, or something. Cult is not the word for these guys, I just hope their recent run of popularity doesn't kill it. Those guys seriously crack me up, the Moon, Old Gregg and the Hitcher especially.
''I'm old Gregg, I've got a manjina!''
Check them out if you can, and disregard Noels recent Russel Brand style press .

Wiz,
V was actually a series, I know because the worst thing my parents ever did to me was send me to bed so I couldn't see one of the episodes, I loved that series, and never forgave my parents . IT is a quality film, you can tell it's one of those less-than-hollywood budget King movies but it's a great story. There's quite a few classics on your list that I'd forgotten about.

I just saw it the other night, I thought it was better than shawn of the dead. Rarely do I enjoy a comedy that isn't monty python. It wasn't american, so thats probably why.

Quote: "Lost Boys is one of my fave movies too"

And I thought I was the only one who labeled it an 80s classic.

Wow, the birds, forgot all about that movie. Wouldn't really call it a great movie but its something everyone should've seen at least once. IMDB shows a movie released in 1983 and the series started in '84.

Now, some people might disagree with me here, but I've always loved the first Exorcist since I saw it in theaters.(the second time it was in theaters, im not that old yet) The added scene of the girl doing that spider crawl down the stairs still freaks me out)

Quote: "V was actually a series"

a mini-series, but i thought there was an actual movie as well? I used to watch it at night with my mom actually. IMDB shows a movie released in 1983 while a series began in '84.

I think V was originally a two or three part mini-series. Then came the series a while later.

Mighty Boosh is class. Personally my fave comedy of recent years was DarkPlace (see Avatar). Yes....

'Ideal' is pretty good too, but I'd say Boosh is about as good as British comedy is likely to get, that and 'Still Game'.

I liked PeepShow, I can see why they were used in the PC vs Mac adverts, never saw much of DarkPlace though, it is my sort of humour but it's another one of those programs I missed because I've no idea when it's on - I missed the whole first running of Caterick because of that too.

Just buy the DarkPlace DVD. You know you want to. Or you are a scotch person.

Ah, but I wasn't talking about Peepshow (which is also good), but that other show they did which was all sketches. BMX bandit was the dogs.

Oh, and I mustn't forget Jam (Jaaaaammmmm) and Monkey Dust which were also totally awesome. And a bit disturbing. Heh, that Monkey Dust sketch where the bloke leaves the house to go to work, then comes back 10 years later cracked me up. "Where have you been?" says the wife, he then gives an excuse which is basically the plot of the 100 year war, then when his wife susses he is lying he says "Trying to fill a bathtub with ***". Class.

I'm already a scotch person - I'll probably grab the DVD before long, maybe when Lost goes off-season again and I'm struggling for something to watch.

Oh yeah, I completely agree Dazzag. I think Garth Marenghi should have a movie. Pure class. Spaced was fantastic too. In one way I think its a shame Simon Pegg moved into movies really as I doubt we will see any more TV series from him - but I can't blame him.
I think I prefer PeepShow to the Mitchell and Webb sketch show though. It was great ('Numberwang'?) but I think PeepShow was funnier.
'Monkey Dust' was brilliant ('Mr. Hoppy!'), so was 'Jam' (in a really disturbing kind of way) but I also loved 'Brass Eye' and 'The Day Today'. I have been very disappointed with the new 'Ruddy Hell - Its Harry and Paul' show with Harry Enfield and Paul Whitehouse. Whats happened to them?
I will stop now as I am quickly moving away from movies...

I hear people mentioning The Matrix. Its been along time since I've seen those. I'll have to watch them all in a row tomorrow.

I still think Aliens is the best. but The Matrix takes second.
