Myth Busters
Myth Busters is awsome. Has anyone else seen this show? Its on the discovery channel (comcast 63, normal cable 49, north america). Basically they go around "busting" (disproving) myths. And so far, most of them have been proven false. If you havent seen it, I suggest you do. Its on wednesdays at 9pm.

Survivor Man
Has any one else found this show usefull? Its on the discovery channel (see above)... Not sure when though. Anyways, I learned quite a bit from this show.

** These are general questions, querrying your thoughts on the shows provided. **

I Love Mythbusters!!!! Jamie and Adam are so cool. When we had g4, I watched a show that was similiar calle braniac, but that was just straight science, not myths. Anyway, the discovery channel is a great channel.

And so are the mythbusters!!!!

I saw the survivor man twice before. One thing he doesn't really mention is that most of us don't travel a big a** knife in our pocket.

Not to diminish what Survivor Man is doing, but they had one episode where they showed how its done. Basically he spends a week with the local nature expert in whatever region he in. That way he knows about all the poisonous plants and where to find water, etc. Still, that guy is hard core.

Yah, Survivor Man rocks. Of course he has to do research before he goes on a trip

But he has to lug around tons of camera equipment as he goes by himself. He always captures nice angles and stuff, but I've seen the "making of" episode. Let's say he's walking up a big hill and wants to film himself walking up, he has to setup the cam, walk up the hill, then walk back down to grab the cam again, so he has to do many things twice.

And he's Canadian so they've been playing his show here for years. Very interesting.

No separate camera crew? I suddenly find a little more respect for his adventures.

oh, well I guess that just cancels out my above statement. :-p

Yup, Survivor Man is pretty cool. His name is Les Stroud I believe.

I like both Mythbusters and Survivorman a lot.

Mythbusters with Jamie and Adam working together is perfect, with Adam being like a kid and Jamie being more serious. And they do things in interesting ways, not like a scientific experiment, so it makes it interesting.

I like Survivorman, but have grown to like Man vs. Wild better. The only differences are that Man vs. Wild has a camera crew (which I think actually makes it more real, considering the guy doesn't have to drag around loads of equipment everywhere and can concentrate on other things (obviously they aren't allowed to interact with him unless his life is in danger), and it also appears more professional instead of homemade. Also, Les Stroud seems to like to bring random things into the wilderness with him, whereas the other guy (can't remember his name), only brings a knife most of the time (sometimes he cuts the strings from his parachute if I parachutes in, but that's about it). Anyways, both good shows.

I watch mostly Discovery Channel, History Channel, and Military Channel, with the exception of Lost and 24. Other series I like: Unsolved History (although the narrator has an annoying and overly dramatic voice), I Shouldn't Be Alive, Combat Zone, Final Report and Shootout. I also like a lot of the specials Discovery Channel does, mostly on Iraq and war.

EDIT: Oh, and Deadliest Catch is surprisingly fairly interesting.

"Carrie", actually its spelled "Kari".

Quote: ""OH TEH NOES U HAVE 2 DO iT TEH OTHER WAY ITS NOT BUSTED!!?!?!??!!""

They only have an hour on air, and they actually do a lot of stuff, so thats rather uneducated judgement. They have done an outtakes episode which explains how much they actually do, and how much isnt on the air, etc.

Perhaps they are together.

Quote: "Oh, and Deadliest Catch is surprisingly fairly interesting."

1-2 episodes in a row is fine, but I dont like watching that show whenever I turn on the tv. It seems to be always on, and it annoys the hell out of me.

Quote: "which I think actually makes it more real"

I find it ironic that I completely disagree with that. It might look better, but I find the show very uninteresting. Survivor Man is doing more work than the other guy, and thus would emulate what normal people would have to deal with. He's used to this, normal people arent. The other guy doesnt have to do as much work, and is used to it. Now, dont get me wrong, I like Man Vs. Wild, but I would prefer to watch Survivor Man.

Say, anyone like the How It's Made show?

Yeah, I agree, not a show I would sit down and watch over and over.

But the thing that makes Man vs Wild more realistic is that when people get lost in the wilderness they don't have to lug camera equipment around, so he's actually doing more work than someone would have to. Also, as long as the camera crew really doesn't interact with the other guy unless his life is in danger, then it shouldn't make much of a difference (I'll admit it might psychologically, but even with Survivorman, they have the crew tracking his movements every day anyways), and I would rather watch the clearer and more professional camera's than the smaller homemade ones .

Quote: "Say, anyone like the How It's Made show?"

I've seen it a few times, it's okay, but doesn't really interest me much. I don't really care how most things are made and it is mostly just the boring narrator talking while they show machines doing different things . I'd rather watch something with an actual person on screen interacting and doing things like Dirty Jobs.

Actually as far as I know they're not tracking Survivorman every day. He always says each episode that the crew is waiting for him at the final destination at the end of his week. If he gets attacked by a bear, or gets lots in the jungle, only after 7 days will a crew and rescue team come searching. Nobody is there to bail him out that instant.

Yeah, Mythbusters is good. Quite like that "box of tissues in the back of cars can kill you" myth. Especially when they tried the hatchet in the back of the car. Nice.

Personally though for that type of program nothing beats Brainiac when they walked across a swimming pool of custard. Brilliant. Plus they get fit birds in bikinis to blow up caravans. As a bloke car driver I cannot say how that sentence could be any better. Unless you somehow worked in a top level football game into the background (say England beating Germany 5-0 in the world cup final, that amazingly is being played in the field behind).

Cheers

Fair enough, swap the scoreline around and hang sausages around everyones necks. But walking on top of a swimming pool full of liquid custard has got to be universally cool for all geeks of the world. Brings us closer together basically

Saw an advert the other day showing Vic Reeves as new presenter of Braniac. I don't think he is right for the part as he's far too silly.

Yeah, I saw that too. Never liked the bloke. Still, Custardboy (Tickle) is still in it, so all good. Apparently he tries to walk on air in the new series. Tops. But not as tops as custard, which surely goes down with inventing the wheel, TV, and blu-tac.

They show both in America, even though Les Stroud from Survivorman is Canadian and the other guy is British.

Oh, is that the stupid British bloke that like puts himself in the middle of nowhere to show how to set fire with your toenails and the like? Nutta. Esp when you consider what Britain is like. 60 million people in a tiny little area. Walk in any direction for like a couple of hours and you will hit a McDonalds. Almost.

Heh, the bloke I like is the nutty ginge British bloke who runs around the rain forests. Is a bit like a really unlikeable version of Steve Irwin, except you want the British bloke to die. I mean it seems like he comes out of the 19th century or something (scarf around neck effort) and he is a ginge. The amount of times he hassles really dangerous animals like a complete idiot is amazing. You basically start wanting the animal to win.

Who? Just looked him up and is he even a Scotch person? Let alone a ginge (I know a lot of the Scotch are ginge with freckles and crumble in direct sunlight, but I don't think this is him)? Nah, the bloke I'm thinking about is a total ginge and you want to kill him. Think he has a ginge beard and tache too. Complete tool basically. Come to think of it he may not be Scotch. Infact now I look at it I'm not sure anyone even mentioned the Scotch.... How did that happen?.... Anways, it's not 'im....
