Hey guys, I recently got this in my inbox:

I have no idea how I got this. I wonder if maybe they emailed people realted to TGC, or maybe even emailed everyone receiving the newsletter? I dunno... it may even be spam. I just don't know how I got it, so has anybody else gotten this, or do you think it's legit?

The reason I ask is that I am in no means a good programmer, I don't even know C++, which is pretty much a must for something like WoW. So I'm pretty sure that more people then just me got this same email.

Thanks,
-Sunflash

I didn't get it, tgc, I doubt, would ever have given out our emails. Likely they got your email from the little email button next to your post there. I would treat that message as spam, especially in this case, being a 'too good to be true' scheme.

I don't know if or what tgc may do in these situations where their users receive targeted spam, but it wouldn't hurt to send someone an inquiry about it, or wait for an official word on the subject here in this thread.

It's not come via your newsletter subscription. Believe me, it's hard enough to pick random winners from the list, let alone distribute it!

It's legit. I actually interviewed with them for a job but decided against it because I didn't want to move there. They will be using the Project Offset engine.

Its a startup from some of the orginal WoW artists and programmers and the guy who designed XBox Live.

They did give me a very cool Red 5 shotglass though... which was kinda wierd but still pretty cool.

Tell me why they would pick random members of the community?

Perhaps they have seen some of your guys' work and liked what they saw!

If Zerk is to be believed, this is quite a fine offer and would consider it if I got it.

I dont know. I find it strange myself. When EA bought us out and shut down our studio, a guy named James from Red 5 flew out, interviewed us and then took us out for dinner and drinks. We all thought it a bit strange and none of us took up their offers.

They know I hang out here because I told them I do. But I didn't tell any of them to email random members. This was all in December when I met with them.

EDIT: Actually it was November.

Why would I lie?

There are quite a few things you have to consider before you take a job. What they were willing to pay and the cost of living where they are located was not worth it. So I declined the offer.

I dunno if you'd lie, maybe YOU are the Red 5 guy J/K

Yes, of course you'd have to consider all that. But it's neat to think you may have been chosen by possible a big name company in the future, you never know.

Lol! I could be the Red 5 guy... you can't really be sure now eh? Want a job?

I'd have to say that all that considered, the most contributing factor was that they are a start up. They said they have tons of money from investors but that dont mean anything really. It's just a huge risk to take if you have to relocate... at least it was for me. But I'd say that you should call them and ask them for a job. You have nothing to loose and perhaps a game job if you do.

Well, he didn't contact me, so he's clearly a deluded alcoholic.

Sun are you part of the GGE? I got this myself, wondering if that is the common link.

Hmmm, what does GGE stand for again? lol.
I doubt that they emailed me because they liked my work. I don't have hardly any of their expected qualifications (I looked at the list of qualifications they are looking for on their site).

So there has got to be some sort of group that they are mass mailing. I guess it doesn't have anything to do with TGC tho, which I am happy about

GGE Probably stands for Great Games Experiment.

It seems legit.... But you never know. If you actualy visit thier site, it gives details on a lot of campaigning they have been doing. It also mentions the mass of emails they have sent out.

Also in their jobs section, they have a lot of needed positions.
