How would one, say, put a DBpro application in a web browser, like a java applet, but without the java?

In simple terms, Java applets work because the browser uses a plug-in similar to an interpreter, so it knows what to do. Remove the plug-in and Java programs would do exactly the same as DB programs - nothing!

To do what you suggest, you would need a DB plug-in which obviously doesn't exist - and I doubt ever will.

I reckon it's easier to say it's not possible - rather than explain all the difficulties, pros and cons of the idea.

At the end of the day it's simply not practical with all the DX issues, extra software required, malicious code abilities et al.

It's easier to just make the program downloadable to let them play it.

Well, the highest quality web browser game had basic texturing, and a single vehicle. All of the good games, free or not, are a lot better and more fun as program files in the end.

It is just the fact that people get scared, and think that .EXE is basically .KILLYOURCOMPUTER.

But, if you could find the right plugins, you could do a DarkBasic to Java conversion, and then edit yourself, or have someone edit the Java program to make it work in web browsers.

Sorry for the little bump, but if you go to the program announcement you may would have found this thread:
http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=87518&b=5

I'm not sure how much it actually supports, but it's worth a look.

But the user has to download the program somehow anyway, so it may be cool, but when you have to download it anyway, you might answell just put it up as a normal download And I'm not sure of how many that would be totally safe in letting it download and run the exe. Hehe.

The Nerd's post is about as close as you are going to come with the latest versions of DBP. There was another application out there that would let you do it as well, however DBP's sandbox kinda fell apart and is no longer secure for online application plugins (or at least the specifications for the sandbox which it was designed for). If you are working with versions of DBP prior to 6.0 then igLoader may still work. Here is the URL:

http://www.igloader.com/

I talked with Lee and Tim (from igLoader) and it doesn't look very promising of having them work together in any future versions, however they did work together at one point in time. So with certain versions of DBP, I am sure it will work, just not the more recent releases.
