Was working on a new track tonight and it got me thinking. Most tracks can be used as some type of game music. People always go "that'd be good in an RPG" for atmospheric tracks or "that'd be awesome in a racer" for heavy tracks etc. For some reason though, this tune I started keeps filling me with a bit of nostalgia, and it's reminding me of tunes from a particular old skool genre, and I can't figure out which one! Maybe old skool platformers? Back in the day when they had big catchy cheesey melodies.

Any ideas? It kinda renews my desire to write music for someones beat 'em up, or side scroller or something, if only somebody on this entire forum would actually finish a game!

Which genre?

Edit: Btw, this is in no way a complete track. Just a quick idea poorly arranged. This isn't a finished tune I'm trying to promote or anything!

Edit: starting to think it might be beat 'em ups it reminds me of, actually.

I can see this music working in some teenage mutant ninja turtle game (Nintendo style), or perhaps something like 720 or Paperboy clone. Definitely has nostalgic tone to me as well.

It reminds me of jump-games, like Mario, where you have to jump up the platforms and take out baddies as you go (only with a more sci-fi setting and futuristic bad guys)

That's what I was thinking too. Cartoony side scroller, possibly platform game, with an action edge like ninja turtles, and similar to other platform games apart from the breakbeat. I might take it down the game route for fun actually.

@Nex - what's neat? invisiblechainsaw.com?

sounds to me like a perfect fit for Rally X, could see a puzzle game with it also.

if your not done, i'd consider changing the synth to a more destinctive and not so low. Also just add some reverb. i liked the beat, but the drums sound more rock. you might wanna put some house drums i'm not sure about that though...lol anyway sounds good.

to the ones thats trapped inside of you, this is it!!
