Well, after having a lot of fun with my ATI Radeon 9700 pro.
But while I was shutting down my computer for a storm, I got a power outage (I am lucky, aren't I?).
It completely fried my ATI Radeon, my motherboard, and my power supply. Luckily everything else came out okay.
My brother also bought the exact same motherboard, and he recently upgraded his system, so he gave me his motherboard, power supply, and his Nvidia.
I got the latest drivers from the website, but when I try to install them, I get the following error:
"Nvidia setup error: Nvidia setup could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit."

I checked the troubleshooting guides for Nvidia cards, nothing.

Here are the basic things you might need:
ATI Sempron 2200+
512 MB DDR Ram (Not that that helps.)
Nvidia Geforce FX 5500 (I miss my ATI Radeon )
Windows 2000 Professional

I am currently running in 800 x 600 (My monitor doesn't support anything lower.) on 16 colors. The TGC forums are red, grey, yellow, and green with blue spots and black text.

If anyone can help me fix this, that would be awesome.

Note: Yes, I uninstalled my ATI Frybuscuit drivers first

There are two versions of the drivers atm.

1 supports GeForce FX and earlier. the other supports GeForce 6-8.
make sure you get the right one.

atleast under XP/2000 you don't have to worry about a 3rd just for Dx10 GF8

there is a "supported products" on the side next to where you download the drivers. always check it.

Make sure you get the latest DirectX version
and
Latest FX drivers.

I noticed after upgrading DX that my graphics went wierd with a FX5500, i tried getting it's latest FX driver set from the nvidia web site and it fixed it.

So I'm guessing the GPU driver is somehow tied to the DX version.

The thing is that the latest drivers don't work.

I did get myself out of the situation though.

I got so mad at the Geforce, I decided to give my ATI Radeon another try, and it worked!

My ATI Radeon seems to have been temporarily fried. How is that possible?
I tried it about 6 hours after my big fry, no luck, tried it again a day later, no luck, but after sitting there while I fight (and loose against) an Nvidia card, the ATI Radeon works great.

I have no idea how my video card survived something that fried my power supply and motherboard, but I am glad that it works.
