I'm finally taking the plunge and getting hitched on Saturday to my fiancee Angela. Still haven't finished writing my speech - anyone know any good jokes?! Anyway - wish me luck ..... I'll post a photo when it's all over!

<edit - removed derogatory joke just incase my wife reads it!>

All the best with your big day. And for the wedding the day after

I wrote my speech on the morning of my wedding. Then I ad-libbed most of it. It worked well. I still remeber the first words...

"Ahem...water...no, wine...."

Take my advice, and make sure everyone has a balanced speech. It would be ridiculous if the groom had an awesome speech, yet the best man had a short one. Trust me, I've seen so many wedding disasters. You really have to be careful.

Congrats.

Good luck Ric!

I too am getting married shortly. I get married on 9th July but luckily I don't need to make a speech because we are going to Jamaica and not taking anyone else with us. So, it will be just the two of us on the beach

I think Scraggle has the right idea. Family make a wedding stressful and most of us hate being dragged to other peoples weddings anyway

I just got my intended to the registry office and signed a few pieces of paper. My whole wedding cost £50, but at least we had some money for a house deposit

Good luck

Nice one mate! Good luck!

I helped a friend setup a website for wedding related stuff... It's not doing bad considering how long its been up...

http://www.newlyweds-uk.com/

Dunno if its of any use at such a late stage.

Good luck Ric,

Best advice on the speech is avoid using the words "the plunge".

Joke I used as a best man
"Eric, you have been like a brother to me, and I wish you all the best. If there is ever anything you need, money, a ride to the airport, or someone to watch the kids, I'm sure you have your father in laws phone number."

I made a rule at my wedding of no speeches. The wedding itself was family only and it would have felt a little silly. Especially since we were together 11 years before we got married.

Anyways good luck.

Congratulations Ric, glad somebody made it! As for the speech don't worry about the jokes. Just let these people know how much you care about your wife and let the jokes come to you, sometimes its about the feeling in the air. Most of the time *if not a shotgun wedding lol* the air is pretty light so go ahead and take some jokes at people's expensed, just be prepared to take some of that back .

Once more, congratulations, good luck and I wish you the best.

I'm 58, not 50. Never stabbed anyone.
I'm actually thinking of getting married again. Reading the posts of you guys that are getting married soon makes me recall that it's a real buzz, like having your first child. Congrats to Ric and Scraggle!

That is funny...I guess you have to decide how funny it is and whether it's worth getting punched over...

Wow--- my wife and I didn't do any speeches during our wedding. The ceremony was short and sweet, and the reception was outdoors and a lunch on a lake. No dancing or anything afterwards--- just nice and sweet. Good luck

Why?
1. Just 'cause there's snow on the roof doesn't mean there ain't a fire in the hearth.
2. Cultural bias: I descend from a long line of married folks.
3. It's a thoroughbred excuse to honeymoon in Jamaica, like Scraggle.

Congratulations to both of you. Best wishes and all that good stuff. Hope you have long and happy marriages.

Also a good move to lose the dishwasher joke.

I love the old standby

Or you could always use

if you have to specify your marrying your fiancee(typically a given) it makes me wonder what you're doing in your free time when you're not home.....

But congrats on whoever you take home. Got a honeymoon place picked out?

Don't jest, my best man forgot them! I checked in the car on the way, and luckily we were only 5 minutes from home at the time.

The delayed honeymoon is a good idea. One of my groomsmen left with my car keys and I didn't realize until the next day. We were stuck at the hotel for hours after our checkout. Luckily we didn't leave for our honeymoon until the day after that.

Thanks for all the good wishes! As threatened, here are a few photos. We had a fantastic day - brilliant sunshine (a small miracle given that June was the wettest June on record in this region!), and it all went without a hitch (except, we did get hitched ) I kept my speech reasonably clean - only had a couple of smutty jokes, which were carefully chosen so that the people that would have been offended probably wouldn't have understood them anyway!

There were 918 photos taken by our photographer - so count yourselves lucky I only put you through three of them!!

Congrats again.

Nice choice of wedding suit...I went for the frock coat over traditional tails myself. Made me feel far more macho and 1920's gangster-like.
