Yea, I've seen this, I hope when they said 2008 they mean some of the games under development, no the toolkit itself.

It would be cool to use, but I have no knowledge of programing, so it would be useless to me.

Yeah, this and the rumoured Jedi Wii game could get me to buy one. Lots of fun Whack-A-Mole Xtreme has a certain ring does it not? Going on the rampage through a 3D world with a big bat smacking around moles is where it's at I'm telling you...

I think a version of that 'whack the penguin with the club' flash game would be quite a laugh with the wii controllers mind you you would only be able to charge about 50p for it, as it kind of lacks depth.

Oh yeah. You mean the Yeti games. Too right they would be awesome as Wii mini games. Heck if it got as much attention as the PC version got then 50p a game would get you a fair bit of pocket change...

But is it as good as that miniclip game? That was addictive as crack. I remember getting my new PC with bleeding edge specs at the time, and leaving the latest great games on the shelf as I played that table tennis game to death

This sounds awesome, it hopefully opens up a big market for indie wii games. Nintendo better not drop the ball and over charge.

How about Wii New York Cabbie, you could use the remote to express your feelings to the other drivers.

@Hobgoblin: And a mini game could be where you play the customer and try and gesture taxis to stop, and make other gestures if they don't

New York City road rage is what it would be called, when stopped in a traffic jam you should be able to throw beers cars at other cars or abuse those who approach you. People can't complain abot it's rudeness and violence because it's based on true everyday events in a public place.

Official press release:

http://www.nintendo.com/newsarticle?articleid=lJUgYjCGf4pVbYMAU2qmwF3wp7DiOK5k&page=

At last, proper Wii games instead of dodgy retro re-releases. Brilliant.

I just hope they provide documentation for it, give it away for free (and get the money back through sales) and support more than just C++...

You know it, i'm jumping up and down about this. Of course typing has become rather difficult whilst jumping but anyway..this has paved the way for us to finally breakthrough with some great new concepts. This jedi game does look interesting.

Quote: "Nintendo announced the introduction of WiiWare, a game-creation service that will allow developers large and small to create new downloadable video game content for sale by Nintendo through the Wii Shop Channel of the hot Wii home video game system. "

That's the worrying line to me - it makes it sound more like something run by the Wii itself or something very watered down in the way it's referred to as a "service" rather than a kit or some other word.

Of course it will most likely be run from the Wii itself--- much like XNA 360 dev requires a 360 on the network.
