There are too many. All of the above and much more.

The ones that got me into music though were Def Leppard. Hysteria is still one of the most complete albums of all time (Sabotage by Black Sabbath is another off the top of my head). Biggest band in the world when I was a kid, and everyone had their name on their school bags

And guys, what happened to Pink Floyd? Thats one of the essentials for programmers when I was in college...

Cheers

I am 99% probably lying in bed right now... so don't blame me for crappy typing

So many great bands, as for legends Cream, CCR, Yes, Joplin, Doors, Hendrix geez the list goes on.

Dragonforce, yeah I have heard them, not bad but a load of better guitarists out there and their vocalist is just plain awful.

I was going to, but I didn't really want to be typing out a massive list of all the greats (ie. "there are too many").

Oooh, Megadeth just came on the pod. Nice...

Cheers

I'm a huge Elvis Costello fan too! lol sorry, had to do it

When I think of Rock Legends, I don't think of bands as much as I think of individual musicians. For guitarists, I'd go with Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Alvin Lee, and Pete Townshend. For Drummers, I'd have to go with John Bonham (greatest drummer of all time imo), Kieth Moon, and maybe Mitch Mitchell. As for singers... man, where to even start? David Bowie (no question there!), Roger Daltrey, and from the Beatles I'd have to go with Lennon, mostly because he sang most of my favorite Beatles songs. These are all "classic rock" icons though, I assume we're not considering modern musicians in the "rock legends" theme, even though some are going to be remembered twenty or thirty years from now.

As do I, but the OP stated bands, so I figured that is what he was getting at. For individuals lets just make out the band

Drums: Carl Palmer
Guitar 1: Eddie VanHalen
Guitar 2: Edgar Winter
Bass: Sting
Female Vocals: Anne Wilson
Male Vocals: David Crosby
Lyrics: Neil Young

Hmmm... Maybe Alice Cooper.

And for his contribution to guitar playing styles, Yngwie Malmsteen (though his actual songwriting is a bit uninspiring a lot of the time).

I have vague plans for World Domination

Led Zep, Creedence, Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Who, Hendrix, Boston, Van Halen, there's much too many to mention. Let's not forget about the funny ones too, like Dr. Hook.

But let's not forget about modern rock legends, like Nirvana. I dunno if the bands that big anymore as it once was, but Alice in Chains is one of my all-time favourites, a lot of great songs. Especially Would?, Heaven Beside You and Man in The Box.

I play electric guitar myself, and have done so only for the past two months though. But my biggest inspirational arists as for the playing would be Jimmy Page, Eddie Van Halen, Jerry Cantrell, Angus Young and Jun Senoue.

I can almost remember cruising to Led Zeppelin, Blach Sabbath, Deep Purple, The Who, Crosby Stills and Nash, Grand Funk, and the like, but theres this foggy, haze that just won't clear whenever I think about it.

Anybody else hungry?

I'm sorry, my answers are limited. You must ask the right question.
