And what about last year I wonder? I bet Iron Maiden had a field day seeing the number of beast. And no doubt some sadoes celebrated it with satanic rituals, singing maiden lyrics or having an Omen movie night.

As for lucky things...bah! You buy a Feng Shui coin for good luck and it rains for the most of your holiday, luck means nothing. Though I suppose not even the Chinese can control or predict England's weather, so I'll let them off for it.

Its just a set of lucky numbers, seems particularly lucky to those who gamble, I think in the slots 3 7's payout more. Though I don't gamble much, I can't really say what else is lucky there, though I gain an extra £11 when I played the fruit machines - but no 7's.

The significance behind 7 is from biblical days, where 6 is evil, 7 is divine or perfect. The sequence of the numbers (such as 3 in a row) would denote completeness. Therefor 666 would be absolute (or complete) evil and 777 would be absolute perfection. This was later adopted into gambling as 7 being a lucky number. I am not going to discuss anything else about the bible as it usually leads into a religious dispute. This is the 'Christian' history of those numbers, if any other religions have a history of these numbers I would be curious about them, but in no way inciting a rant about 'right' or 'wrong'.

That's what I get, 777 + perfection, 666 is one less, as in inperfection and the fallen angel.
But why 7 for perfection and why 3, I see it could be symbolic of the trinity, which I see as a sun reference, sun in the morning sun at mid day sun at the evening, biblical, son, farther and holy ghost, the 3 stages of God the Sun, the light of the world, Egyptian - Horus, Armen Ra and Set, its where we get horizon, Horus is risen, ie the sun is rising, Armen, its why prayers are ended with armen, and set, this is where we get sun set, so the biblical trinity mirrors this, 7 days in a week and the sun at 3 stages in the day. This is my cover on it, perhaps this is correct, or perhaps there is another meaning to the three sevens. If anyone knows I would love to hear.

interestingly the Jewish menorah, the candlestick holder has 7 holders on 3 stands, I think it symbolises the sun, as the christian cross does, so perhaps I am right with my take on it.

And after 12/12/12 we will have to wait 87 years to get back to 1/1/01. Seriously, these kind of dates happen all the time.

Like, I hear something is supposed to happen in 2012.

pi = 3.14
666 * 3 + 14 = 2012

You never really know a person until you look at their google autocomplete entries.

Those conspiracy theorists love to go on about 2012, I think it all stems from the end of the Mayan calendar originally, so what, I think its a way to sell books and tapes myself, I guess they have 5 years of sales till they backtrack something new.

Anybody remember the Y2K thing? The world ending and all...?
Every time it doesn't end and we poor humans go on suffering they make up a new day for the apocalypse.
I worked on December 31,1999.Other than the power going off for 15 minutes (and we had emergency lights so no break for us) nothing happened.

These theorists are silly, but hey, they get the attention they want...The apocalypse will strike soon after 1000 AD, never did, Y2k was suppose to happen, never did, numerous predictions for the end of the world have been made, but we're still here. The next one is associated with the devil...well its fairly simple to come up with a connection like that, so it won't be the end of the world, unless Russia, China and America decide to set of all their nukes around the world.

My son has a mate who says he can't come to school next Friday (13th) because a mate of a mate of his mate was in a car that crashed and rolled over several times on a previous Friday 13th.

Anyway, my son is doing a bit of research now. I've asked him to look up the dates of some of the major disasters, like the Tsunami, Twin Towers etc. I'm just wondering how long it will take him to realise that there is a 99.6% chance that your accident will occur on any day other than Friday 13th.

Yep. Apparently the chinese really love 8. So next year will be like the best ever. Isn't 4 unlucky?

Personally for my department 2047 is the end "of the world". Mainly because we didn't employ a rolling year fix for our Y2K rollout. After amending 6000+ programs and rolling them out to about 70 customers (big travel companies) we felt 2047 would do. Either we will be dead by then, or it will be a good retirement fund if anyone is still using the system And no, the creators of the system (originally about 1980) didn't think to use 8 character dates, and our system would take years (instead of months) to change to make it 8 chars.

Cheers

I tried very hard and I think I can translate and yes I am ashamed of myself, though I have only ever spoken like that to mock them.

Seems to be - "Help me plox(Please I assume) How do you mine for fish?" Sounds like runescape to me, but 'mine for fish?" that doesn't make sense, the guy must be taken the mick or is quite foolish, most likely the latter. I certainly hope this won't be the next stage in the development of the English language.

Though some fish do live on rocks...maybe he misheard the nature program and thought the guy said 'live in rocks' - easy mistake to make, especially if he had an accent, so I'd give him a little credit - perhaps he was mining for those kind of fish - you never know.

Quote: "Its just a set of lucky numbers, seems particularly lucky to those who gamble, I think in the slots 3 7's payout more"

Depends on the slot machine, most slots nowadays are digital touch-screens with funny pictures and animations, it's almost a rare treat to find a classic slot machine with the famous hierchy of lemons, cherries, bars, and sevens (not sure if that's the right order or not). At least in the casinos around here, like Atlantic City, Turning Stone, or up in Niagara Falls (Canadian side of course, the American side is pretty lame imo).

Quote: "Those conspiracy theorists love to go on about 2012, I think it all stems from the end of the Mayan calendar originally, so what, I think its a way to sell books and tapes myself, I guess they have 5 years of sales till they backtrack something new."

I made a post (maybe even a thread?) about that very subject not long ago. I do find it interesting that on the date of December 21st 2012, the universe will be aligned (or something like that), and the axis of the planet is going to shift. What I don't understand though: how did an ancient civilization like the Mayans know this was going to happen, when modern science couldn't figure it out until the late 1990's? Lucky guess?

Quote: "My son has a mate who says he can't come to school next Friday (13th) because a mate of a mate of his mate was in a car that crashed and rolled over several times on a previous Friday 13th."

I'm almost positive that the superstition of Friday the 13th revolves around the Knights Templar, who were wiped out on Friday the 13th much akin to the Jedi . By that I mean they were wiped out in a similar fashion, not that it happened on the same date . So just tell him, you know, if he's not running off to fight in a crusade or anything, he should be fine .

I believe 777 is symbolic for divine glory perfection, that is of my Lord, Jesus Christ. 666 is the mark of the beast, as stated in Revalations chapter 21. The three numbers represent the trinity, God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit, united in one.

People have taken these numbers and used them for gambling, 777 as lucky.

What I stated is not only theory, but is fact.

*now, let's get ready for a debate. *

though one might think he meant what he believes is a fact rather than just belief, which he probably did - if he did, then that would mean he would be saying that Jesus once existed and God and the Holy spirit do, which is a bad idea to try and debate that being fact on here as there are atheists that roam the forums, including my self who would try to beg and differ. Though I can restrain myself from debate on the matter, others won't be, so please, avoid religious statements like that one.

Obviously it's just a guess. There's nothing supernatural or mystical going on there

To avoid discussing this on the forums, can you email me or something to let me know where you get this from?

There's nothing wrong with saying you're a Christian, or anything else, so no need to get your panties in a twist because someone mentions Jesus. If Seppuku can say he's an atheist in every other thread, then it's fair game. Let's not *debate* religion on here, though, as that's against the AUP.

lets not avoid discussing this on the forums, lets place it right here. I asked what people know about the origin of this, and I would like to know. As I said I have already compared the trinity with the stages of the sun, but would like to know the signifigance of the number 7.
