I have always wondered, are rammstein actually gay, or just have a thing for their masculine, gimpy, bondage, cyborg etc. style? And of course, in "Live '98" isn't that one of the Crazy 88? Dude where's his sword!

No, they are not gay. They have all been married, most have kids, so odds are that they just like the style.

That doesn't mean anything. Elton John was married (to a woman) before he came out about being gay.

The art is pretty good, not keen on the style he's gone for though.

Leather used to be cool before it had it's reputation ruined by generalization. (my nice way of putting it )

I have a leather jacket and i wear it with pride, everyone thinks i'm gay, even my own family, but i don't care. I have plenty fun making people think i'm gay, lol.

Once i even had a gay person hit on me, i was like "umm no".

The Crazy 88 from Kill Bill and compare to the masked bassist:

As for the gay thing, I see, well I suppose the 'goth' style did start from Rob Halford (I think it was him) who wore bondage clothes and such like to please his gay lover and then the fans turned it into a fashion despite being straight and I suppose Rammstein has jumped on the bandwagon by taking that style to an extreme.

As for the band, I don't mind them to be honest, not a fan of their newer stuff. And the drawings are quite good.

I know but so far anyone who I've met that hasn't heard of Rammstein, has loved them after I played them a single track. I just wanted to know why he doesn't like them, and what songs he's heard

They aren't very inventive with their instruments (ie, tune down and bash hard) and the singer pisses me off immensly.

And i've listened to all the ones you would have expected me to hear (the ones that have been released)

Oolite has outlined why people out there don't like Rammstein, even after a while, I'm thinking 'they're not so great', I know a fair few that dislike Rammstein, usually because they've said 'they seem to sound the same too much, not enough variation' and others say 'I can't stand the singer's voice'. My brother absolutely despises their music, for one thing he doesn't see them as that talented. Though I based most of my taste on talent and passion more so that style or genre, hence you'll see me often digressing from metal, though I do like Rammstein (Up to the album 'Mutter') and other 'not so special bands' for their style. Plus Rammstein are fun to watch on stage, hence I bought the DVD of 'Live Aus Berlin' a while back.

I agree with Oolite whole heartedly. Alot of bands do that for me anymore... so many wannabe bands making it big... it drives me nuts! Like all the stupid 'punk' bands that whine into the microphone and are over powered by the cruddy out of tune guitar.. drives me nuts! And the worst part is: My fiancee likes 3/4 of the bands that do that! Gaaaah! What is the world's music coming to? When did talent disappear?

Talent has kept away from the mainstream mostly, there are some very talented bands around, like what I am currently listening to, Porcupine Tree as well as, Opeth, Therion, After Forever, Dream Theater (Though very popular), Symphony X, Stratovarius, Haggard - though most of these are quite dark, progressive and orchestral

But you'll find pretty damn good bands if you look hard enough -> a good place is to look at link give them a style of music or a band name of a 'similar artist' and they'll collect a bunch of music and play it through their little radio to you, you'll get the mainstream stuff you dislike, but you should find more or less good bands that you'll enjoy, that's how I've discovered some of my favourites. Or go to Germanic parts of Europe is another choice. (not England)

About the time when someone shot the sheriff.

I agree to an extent, i do like rammstein, but i think the average quality of music has fallen gently the last 10-20 years. It's all the teenagers fault (writing that made me feel old), they usually crave poorly composed pop music and techno/trance music made in 4 hours or less. They would buy everything as long as it's from a almost-reached-puberty boyband or spoiled-prostitute-looking-female singer.

Ofcourse the big companies like to exploit the weak minded so it was only a matter of time until they saw the $$$ potensial in teenagers poor music taste. Might just be me, but the average music taste of teenagers in the 80's was alot better.

I listen to roxette at the moment.

Teenagers? I think it's more the side of the media, promoting commercial bands and generating lower and lower quality bands, so they can actually control and contract what the bands make and have gone down the lines of emo music etc. I mean the likes of Greenday, Blink 182, Good Charlotte and Linkin Park have gone down an emo-ish route as these emo band crawl out of the woodworks to keep in line with the commercialism - because depression sells, anti-war sells. Marilyn Manson lost his two main song writers, John 5 and Twiggy so his music has lost signs of talent and has followed the sex/depression route.

That's in terms of commercial alternative music, Pop music will make me rant more.

Of course, your Bob Marley reference, shows that we don't have talent like that anymore, I think he was one of the only decent reggae artists, hip hop, rap, rock, punk and metal have all gone the way of commercialism, which is slightly ironic, because most of them were about free-expression and sticking it to formal style and sticking it to conformity. It's a shame, as some of the talented doesn't get the reconition they should.

Indeed.

Ahh the day came, the day we got to a point where we don't agree 100%.

I'm not saying your theory is completely wrong, nono, i'm saying that teenagers sure did play a role in the "transformation", if you will. They are a major driving force in pop-culture so it's only natural to blame them as usual.

Indeed, but to only a certain extent, though I grew up with the blues, Zepplin, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Cream, Jimi Hendrix and such like, when I came into the modern metal and punk scene (About when I was 9 or 10), all I had was mainstream music and liked the style, though not many were that talented - Blink 182 and Sum 41 were funny, Metallica had quite a few talented pieces I admit and this was when Marilun Manson had John 5 and Twiggy - but as a teenager listening to music, talented artists weren't exactly availible to me, other than the classics and the blues I listened to previously - it was only by looking I found what one could call 'the good music' - so incidentally I liked some of the mainstream generic music that was out there - luckily at the time it's much better than what you see now.

Linkin Park!

Oh, yeah, Rammstein. They've got good stuff, but I do agree they vary at most 0.01% in terms of style and music. I loved "America".

Have many of you heard Karnivool? They are a decent metal band. I can't say I'm into metal that much, a lot more indie stuff floats my boat, but I am partial to a little SOAD!

Rammstein are fun enough.

I quite like that style of metal, like Rammstein, Static X etc, not as mellow as the music I usually listen to (soad, pearl jam, qotsa, faithnomore).

The video for Sonne is one of my favourite vids though, it's just so dark and creepy, kinda reminds me of going to see Snow White as a little kid. Even if you don't like Rammstein's music, you have to appreciate their style, for a German band singing in German to do so well in the west is admirable.

Heh, i thought i was the only one here listening to them. I discovered static-x in 1999. Kinda grown tired of them now after playing "push it" constantly for the last 8 years.

And you two aren't the only ones either, though I haven't listened to them in a year or two, because I've found far more interesting music, though they are good.

There have only been a few metal bands since the early 90's that have put out anything I really like, Disturbed, A7X, Sevendust, a few others here and there. Rammstein is a good way to get me out of the room, I'd sooner listen to a 24 hour mix of Paula Abdul's "Straight Up".
