Not long ago I got really disheartened with FPSC and whilst in a bad mood I uninstalled it and all the programs I had that went with it. But being a glutton for punishment once I'd calmed down I reinstalled to give it another chance.I decided to have a go at writing a similar program for myself.

One week later V1.0 is nearly completed and seems to work fine, although I haven't finished testing it all for bugs yet. I now find myself faced with a dificult decision. Once it is fully completed do I keep it to myself or do I make it available to the community?

I've attached a picture showing some of the tool windows to give you an idea of what it's like and would be grateful for any input you might have.

looks pretty decent to me.
Im not too familiar with signs as i do most of my own alterations and pretty much do it all 'manually', but i see you have something that either combinds textures or models to make one wall wich seems pretty intresing for some good variations.
Can you import your own models for walls and such as well?

@ Disturbing 13.

Yes there is tool for blending textures. You pick a base texture then a detail texture and use slider to adjust the level of blending. Once your happy you can save off the new texture.
No you can't import your own models. I tried to make this a simple to write as possible so it uses media in the FPSC entity and segment folders.

@ Underside.

It took me a week to write the program using DBPro and Bluegui 2. I expect to spend the next week looking for bugs lol.

I use signs (thanks to Candle Yes, I remember, lol) and find it nice and probably wouldn't have a need for extra programs, but I'm sure other people would. Looks like you put alot of work into it

This is so off topic, but w/e.

How do you like BlueGUI? I have always wanted to invest in DB Pro, (mainly to write software), but DarkBasic and GUI's have always scared me. How does BlueGUI work anyway?

Your program looks beastly by the way. Can't wait to try it out

Ok I'm nearly done debugging it, what I need now is someone brave enough to try it out in their pc. For the prog to run you will need to have FPSC installed (obviously) and also Model pack 3.

I'm a user of BlueGui and can tell you it is a very awesome tool. You can easily create toolbars etc. with one line, it can get very simplistic.

On-topic -

Looks like a very nice program DarkFoil. But why will we need model pack 3?

Because the room segment creator uses one of the room meshes from model pack 3.

Wow! that's pretty impressive! Especially the Texture Mixer. I noticed a couple of things:

1) When creating a Wall you can't set the strength precisely, clicking the + and - moves the slider in steps of 10, perhaps that should be steps of 1?

2) When creating a floor, the preview is a bit small for me to see (I'm on a 1280x1024 monitor). Perhaps clicking on the preview window could bring up a larger preview?

3) Create Floor: I've changed the floor texture path in settings but it's still opening up the default path: 'Textures/Floor Textures'.

4) Create Sign: I've changed the default texture path for 'Sign Textures' and when I go to create a sign, the big white texture box is empty and clicking on it brings up this error:

Runtime Error 506 - Could not load image at line 717

You've done a realy good job here, well done!

Sorry I haven't been around for a few days but I recently made the desicion to upgrade to windows vista.

Yeah ok, you can stop laughing now.

I think I've just about sorted out all the problems the upgrade caused so I can get back to work on the prog.

Thanks for the feed back Nickydude I'll have a look tomorrow and see if I can sort out the probs. I had a feeling the paths settings would cause a problem. If I can sort out the bugs are you willing to test it again?

@ rebourn games: Patience is a virtue

Nickydude.
I was looking at the code for the Delete Items window today and realised I had missed something. When it deletes an item you've created it leaves behind the .bin and .dbo files. If you have used it to delete anything I'm afraid you will have to get rid of these manually. I've rewritten the code now so the next version I send you will delete all the created files properly.

Yes it will need model pack 3.
I used a mesh from model pack 3 because it was the easiest one to figure out and build.
Wouldn't know where to start in building my own mesh for it.

Just so everyone knows, I started this program because it was something that I needed. I didn't originally have any thought of releasing it to the community so I built the program in the easiest way possible for me.

I'm very grateful to Nickydude who is helping me with testing it out and once all the bugs are ironed out I will make it available for everyone.

Hi tschwarz,

Apologies mate didn't mean to tread on anyones toes. Letreros isn't anywhere near as comprehensive as your program, which I admit is excellent, and as I mentioned at the start of this post the reason I decided to try to write it was because the amount of use I'd get out of a program like yours didn't justify me paying out cash for it.

Once Letreros was all but complete it occured to me that other members of the FPSC community might be able to find a use for it so I started the thread to try and gauge whether or not it was worth going to the effort of trying to make the program bullet proof. With hindsight I agree that the name I gave the thread was probably ill advised but it was never intended to take bussiness away from you, only to try and find out how many people would be interested in it. So once again sincere apologies.

For everyone else following this thread, Nickydude is still happily finding bugs for me to sort out, (thanks bud lol), but we are getting there and once it's as stable as I can get it I'll make it available to the FPSC community.

Well it took a bit longer than I expected but the segment maker is now ready. Unfortunately for some reason I couldn't upload it to the forum so Nickydude has stepped in to help by starting a new thread titled 'Firma Segment Maker' and you can get it from there.
