I've seen loads of sites get kind of personal Wikipedia's, there's one for Lost and stuff like that, one for WoW I think...

How can we get one for DBPro? Where people can make pages for every single command, every game, even maybe a page about themselves and aspects of the community??

I think it would be awesome, but don't know if you have to buy a site like that of Wikipedia or something, anyone know?

----------------------

Found out as soon as I'd posted that they use MediaWiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki

I am the worst online coder known to man, anyone have any ideas how to set one up?

Hmmm it is pretty nice, I registered the name http://thegamecreators.wetpaint.com/ and set it up so that anyone can make pages and edit them, you don't need to sign up.

I think the interface is a little messy, not as good Wikipedia or other MediaWiki websites...

I called it DarkBIBLE for the moment because I thought that it was oh-so-clever, anyway, it can be changed easily if people don't like that!

Can't see if you can upload picture put I assume you can.

Hi,
Personally I would see it convenient to assign moderation of the website only to trusted (and probably active )members of this community.

You never know when somebody who knows very little or nothing at all of the subject, writes a conclusion for a command and what is written is totally wrong or doesn't make sense at all to everybody else who know how to use the command and knows the real definition.

Also, I can't wait until somebody writes me a whole lots of pages about the uses of the EAX effects that comes with DBPro Enc.
The help files provides very little information

hmm.. Chris K i could try to set the MediaWiki on my http server and see if it goes well But i recommend you use that wiki for now.. Because my server cant be on 24/7 yet because i need cable first to set up connection on my older computer to put server on it..

I prefer mediaWiki more cuz it has the wikipedia look!

The page is a little ad infested and packed with links to other wikis, but it still looks fairly good. Altohugh we need a picture of the DB pyramid somewhere

Hmmm I am not sure I like the 'Navigation' thing on the left... Plus I am not sure how easy it will be to cross-link between articles, which is 100% the greatest thing about Wikipedia.

Maybe if we show enough support, Rich will make one for us??

http://wiki.thegamecreators.com?

Pretty please??

I want it to be like "DBPro was created by Lee Bamber and Mike and some lesser drones", and clicking "Lee Bamber takes you to a page about the man, the myth the legend.

You know the dealio, this wet paint thing is really good, but I would definitely prefer our own little Wikipedia. It should be completely right before people start writing proper articles for it.

I also think it should be open to anyone to edit. If it was built into the main TGC site, I supppose it could only be edited by Apollo users.

Hmmm... asking TGC to spend their time making the perfect wiki may be asking too much...

I'll look for alternative wiki makers, just in case I stumble across the "Perfect one", not saying wetpaint is bad or anything.

Actually I think wetpaint is perfect, you can minimize all the crap round the outside and it ends up looking really clean.

The editor is also very easy to use.

I think it'll be awesome.

Tomorrow I'll start making some proper articles, hopefully after a while (or maybe a few years!) they'll be a proper page about EVERYTHING to do with TGC.

Here's what it looks like for the lazy people:

You're one is probably better I'd say...

Only thing is we need a really decent server that is fast and can take a load of image uploads...

I don't mind which one we use too much, but to be honest... This towns not big enough for two wikis. We'll have to decide today or tomorrow.

Looks like only you can edit the main page and main image, but everything else is open.

Just made some placeholder pages...

I saw that someone said it'll need moderation, that's a good point, I'm around here most of the time and would be happy to contribute there if people see it necessary. (Currently adding my 3D basics one)

When we get started on building the pages, it would be an idea to decide upon a layout for the command database.

personally I like the help files for DarkPHYSICS, so if I may contribute a tip to how a page is build I recommend we do it similar as they did it there.

in case you don't know what I'm talking about let me know and I'll upload an example image from the DBPro DarkPhysics command help files.

You can now edit the command list So u add every command new article and then edit it to that page if you want

oooh we're not using wetpaint, good and just as well, it was very slow for me to edit through. Well I'll repost the tut on that Dark Bible site.

[edit]
Though I'd probably wouldn't have comments like this Mr Roxas

Quote: "Sync On
From Dark Bible
Jump to: navigation, search

Without this command, you are literally a complete n00b. "

I think the idiot is Crish K? Whoops

Aa.. Just joking.. The article isnt written by mine tough I go soon so i left the server open

Oh and lukas W

Its really good

Like i said somebody else can also modify and add there things.. If somebody comes and tries to empty these things i think i can ban those users and ressurect the articles.. I hope so!

Also Everyone who wants to moderate this wiki sing up here And tell me your account name on DARK Bible so i can give you rights.

I think 3-5 of moderators is good amount at start.

I've added the start to my DBP tutorial, I was going to wait until it was finished, but as I write it, it will give me practice with editing stuff Wiki style.

Great work people.

I made a load of pages for the most diverse things I could think of, and just filled them with crap for the moment, I will add some proper stuff tomorrow.

Once it is in fairly decent shape, we'll make a new thread and ask for it to be stickied, then there shall be conscription, in which every user is n00b slapped until they have added their own tiny bead of information to the enormous mountain of all DBPro knowledge.

Then forever more, we shall simply tell newbies to "Read the freaking Wiki you tool".

I'm not the one to decide but I agree too that it will be better to use a "real" domain.

What about darkbasicwiki.com?

Can someone make a logo out of this please (which I most definitely did not steal from Lostpedia)

I actually think it's a cool name. It has more character than TGCWiki for sure.

Yeah that name could offend some people, saying the bible is a dark thing and all. Maybe reconsider something like DarkWIKI.

So far the wiki is looking nice though, with that hello world demo someone should explain what those commands do and all rather than just code snippets.

I agree, DarkBible is kind of offensive. It sounds sort of evil, then you got that whole pyramid thing on the cover... Not everyone would be too pleased with that name and it's quite controversial. Best to stay with something more normal sounding like DarkWiki or something.

I'll start working on the wiki so that it gets bigger.

I think it should be TGCwiki, cause their are loads of TGC products, how 'bout a section for us FPSC'ers? I dont know much about darkbasic, but I could deafiantly help with a FPSC section.

Cheers,
