Hi

Does anyone know how to implement lights into FPSC as shown in some of the screenshots for E.L.E like the one attached.

This appears to be the best way of giving lights that extra level of quality which is missing from just having a light entity with an illumination mapped texture applied to it and a light marker underneath.

Does anyone know how the light beam which comes down from the light entity is created and implemented i.e. does it have to be made as part of the texture for the light entity or is it added seperately and if so how ?

Thanks

If he wants Lyte FX, he'll have to wait for butterfingers to get back from break. I've sent several e-mails but haven't got a response back yet.

That's pretty much normal. lol[center]

All you would just put a grey to black gradient on an alpha map for those faces, or whatever you modeled them as.

Yeah i was also wondering about that.

Inspire what program are you using?
And also which kind of alpha settings do you have?

Because when i use photoshop and i save the file as DDS
with an alpha map the only thing that is transparent is true black.

I might have a go at making a light-entity with this kind of effect. Provides a bit of challenge and will most likely evolve my skills, so I'm definetly considering this. I'd distribute it free too, of course, since there seems to be some request for it.

You must be saving 1bit alpha if only true black works, use 16 or 32bit alpha and set the transparency in the fpe to 2.

I would normally use the setting underlined in red above for semi transparency in photoshop, you could use 16 of these to create a decal with dust motes or flickering. Or create a box with four faces open top and bottom and use a taper with graduated alpha applied to get the effect in the first post.

Thanks roly i took a look at my settings.

But what i noticed was that you have a different version.
So i thought i should go with the:

8 : 8 : 8 : 8

But if i want to open it again it just shows an error.
I think this has something to do with Vista.
I will take a look into it again.

Okey first sorry for bumping this thread...

But rolfy is it by any means possible if you could send that version of the Nvidia plugin?

I looked up at the official Nvidia site but they only have the
newer version as you can see by my previous post on the picture
that it has different settings.

And the 8 : 8 : 8 : 8 setting like i said just shows an error.

If it is possible then i cant thank you enough.
But if it is against any copyrights or such, or maybe you dont want to, i can understand.

Or if anyone else has that version who would like to share.
You would do a great favor. (hope it is spelled right)

Hi Cheese Cake

Here is the version that Rolfy is using i.e. v7.83

I'm still trying to get the desired effect with a decal at the moment but not sure this is the best approach. Can you set up the decalspec to only use 1 frame as I don't want it to be animated or do you have to use 16 identical images?

I think I might try Rolfy's suggestion about creating a box / cylinder with no top or bottom which will fit an entity light mesh and then apply alpha texture to it.

Either way any help on this would still be appreciated if someone manages to pull it off.

I think you have to place 16 identical images.
But i never tried decals so its a new thing to me.

But i think it is better to model a 2 sided box.
And place the texture on it.

I dont have the script now but will download it soon.
But look for Opposing Force his thread its called:

Eastern Assault.
Its a game, and FredP and Butters posted a script so you can walk through entities.

It is very useful because if you dont have that script the light would block you.

And thank you very very very much!
For the plugin.
