Hi all,

In the start of this week I've been having a weird problem with my xbox 360. It just popped out of nowhere this monday, where I started to notice that the texture in the games I'm playing would start to flicker. Like jump back and forth between parts of the textures being black, and then have them going back to their normal state very quickly. And, of course, it would just continue to do so. Yup... it drives you nuts after a little while

Of the games I have I've noticed that the problem is very clear in games such as The Darkness, Gears of War and Call of Duty 2, while I weren't able to spot the problem in FarCry or Oblivion.

This is what makes me wonder what's going on with my xbox... I can't really point anything out myself. Maybe it's the GPU that's starting to fail? Can't tell.

Anyway, so I contacted xbox customer support and finally got an answer back from them today saying that I had to call them due to the complexity of the problem. But since it's the start of the weekend now I won't be able to call them until Monday(Not sure they'll be able to tell me more than I know already, anyway).

Also, it seems like the texture only starts to flicker when I'm far enough away. If I'm up close to them, they will appear totally normal. So it also depends on the distance.

While I've never heard of this problem before, I just wondered whenever anyone here could have any ideas to anything that could cause a problem like this to happen. Who knows, maybe it'll help me with some ideas.

oh, and it might also be worth mentioning that I tried to search both google and the official xbox forum, and I didn't find anything other than one single thread that had a suggestion for me, which didn't work.

Cheers.

I can't help you on that The Nerd... but if you don't mind I'd like to add my own question on the x360 here so maybe whoever answers you can help me too

My x360 is fairly recent (3 weeks) but on 3 occasions while I was playing I got a "disc could not be read, please eject it and clean it with a clean cloth". Needless to say, the discs are perfectly clean and this seems to clearly be a drive rather that disc problem.

Have any of you guys got that?

I'll probably be taking it to the shop in the next couple of days to get it exchanged, which leads me to a 2nd question: I know I will be able to recover my Live profile on the new console (after exchanging it) but how can I migrate my saved games? Is it even possible? I looked on the net and all I see is hot to migrate the live gametag, not the savegames...

Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks!

I have vague plans for World Domination

You need a memory unit, or you can probably do it in the shop if their cool enough and the one you bought has a harddrive.

@The Nerd,

It sounds like your disk drive is malfunctioning, it happens to be sometimes for oblivion, but its not been doing it lately, so I think its just something that happens with them.

Your signature has been erased by a mod because it's larger than 600x120....

@ The Nerd

I've had a similar thing sometimes happen with my 360 except instead of black the textures look almost a pixilated red, every time a restart of the machine has fixed the problem.

It has yet to cause a major issue for me though and i've had my machine since 11/19/05 without any repairs.

@ Miguel Melo

Game saves should be relatively small with some exceptions (viva pinata 12mb) but most in the kbs. You could pass them to a memory card then back to your new hd, depending on how many saves your talking about.

They also make data kits that can pass from 360 hd to pc then back to 360, but i have never used those.

Osiris, beat me by 1 sec

Sounds odd. Although the problem with my xbox seems to be permanent. Restarts doesn't help.

That sucks, it probably is the gpu then. Is your system in a entertainment system where it could be overheating, maybe not getting enough air circulation where it is?

Quick get rid of your XBOX 360, and get a decent PC. You'll still have weird issues, but it's a PC, you'll expect it

Nope, it stands on my desktop right infront of me. It's wide open for cool air from every angle.

I already have a decent PC AMD Athlon X2 64 4400+, 2GB Ram and a ATI Radeon x1800RX 256GDDR3 Ram.

Well, atleast it isn't that bad. Some of us just enjoy playing on a console, you know hehe.

Pretty interesting you say that. Because I've noticed that my disk drive is pretty loose. I can easely bob it up and down. Although due to some problems with my television I've had a very long break from playing on my console, so I don't remember if it is ment to be just a bit loose

I'm gonna try to download The Darkness demo over xbox live and see if the same problem occours there. If it does I'll know that it isn't the disk drive.
