"hard" is a vague and relative term. What is considered "hard"? Can you pick it up and build an RPG within a week? No. Can you learn to create a simple 3D setup within a week? Yes. Are you willing to devote months or years learning it and developing in it? All depends on your definition of hard .

I suggest that you download the trial version from here - http://darkbasicpro.thegamecreators.com

Give it a go, read through the help files, see if it suits you. It's a good, flexible language, with a good learning curve, but it's easy enough for a complete beginner to programming to pick up and learn about, without too much difficulty.

Good luck!

And I have no idea why you post the question here when you already have posted it in the DBPro board and got a lot of answers:

It all depends on your determination and how much you are prepared to learn the language. It's not necessarily hard to learn but it will take you a lot of time to learn the language.

Get the demo if you don't already have it and follow the advice from your other post, make a small project where you can learn the basics and hey presto! You have learnt about variables, if/then statements, arrays, collision, 3d objects etc.

And look at the tutorials stickied at the top of this board!

That's like looking at a foreign language and saying "how do I learn it, it looks hard". Of course it looks hard because you have no idea what it means . You have to learn the commands and then how to put those commands together to form what you want just like you have to learn the words and how to put them together to form sentences in a language. This thread will help:

Just to let you know that the following collection of tutorials start at the very beginning and assume that you don't even know what a variable is:

Brandon originally posted on the Dark Basic Professional board. I was the one who suggested that he post on this board in the hope that he would receive more sympathetic treatment.

Some of us started using DBPro after a long period of time using other programming languages and so were able to hit the ground running. Some are using DBPro as their first programming language (it's an excellent choice for that), and so are a little disoriented.

Also, in our community - like any community - it takes a little time to become familiar with where everything is and how to get around.

So why don’t we have a little patience with Brandon - not an unlimited amount, but a little - and try to help and support him.

Brandon -

First, welcome to the DBPro community. It may be a little difficult at first, especially if you don’t have previous programming experience, but DBPro is a great place to start. A little patience and diligence will go a long way.

Second, do the tutorials TDK recommended and come back here when you have more questions.

Welcome to the Dark Basic Forums Brandon. It is a great place to hang out and learn from some excellent programmers and some pretty smart, intelligent people. I be not one of those. You will have a good time here as it is not always serious. You are allowed to have a little fun as long as you follow the general guidelines and etiquettes.

Now to answer your question about learning DBP; I will give you my pat answer. A bite at a time. You learn DBP the same way you learned to read, write, ride a bike or drive a car. You don't just jump up and know how to do these things. You learn a small part and then learn something else to build upon what you already know. That is how you learn any type of programming, cooking or building a computer.

There are many people that will help you as long as you show an effort. They want you to learn and get better and better. They don't want to hand you an answer (piece of code) if you can not learn from it. follow this advice and become part of a wonderful community, full of loonies and unique people (as well as a couple of normal ones.)

Someone's sig add's a bit to that: Programming is NOT like riding a bike. If you crash programming, you have build half the bike before you get back on just to crash again.

Actually incorrect. I have never had to rebuild half a program because something did not work. You would only have to do that if you failed to tighten all the screws (did not save) and it crashed. All you should have to do is straighten the handle bars and check your chain (make a correction and not have to rebuild half of the program). Programming is about learning. Learning is best in smaller, digestible quantities. That is also the way I try to choose to program.

It also helps if you are motivated and not lazy like me.

I am not saying that programming can not be the way you discribe. It is just not that way for me, but if you look at my sig; that may be the reason why.
