Yeah, I mean metal detectors and security etc are fine for stopping kids killing each other, but what is to stop a psycho with an automatic rifle who really doesn't have the time to be selective about where he shoots people.

We're going down... in a spiral to the ground...

Indeed, hence I've come to my conclusion that it's good to protect your children...though it does seem sad that the length the guys in the US have had to go to in order to make schools safe - I mean it must be bad if you're having to go in with bullet proof back packs past a metal detector.

And as usual, Van B raises some good points.

Some poor 11 year old kid was shot in Liverpool recently by another kid. I think it's realy sad and whoever gave him the gun should be held just as responsible as the kid who shot it.

Gun deaths were down from 89 to 50 last year, probably won't be so low this year, but in context to USA gun deaths it's pretty low and I'd hate to see my country get paranoid about it as the press always tried to whip these things up.

I already think police are too hard on kids. Back in my day if you did something wrong you got a police car ride back to your parents.

Now it seems pressure to meet crime targets means kids are charged as criminals over minor things like: criminal damage for climbing trees, attepted arson for playing playing with matches even if you didn't set light to anything, assault for throwing a cocktail sausage (all true stories). The repremand system for kids is design to get them to accept a crime without a trial. It's no wonder youth crime is on the up if we arest kids for just being kids

The police in our area actually got violent with loitering teenagers who refused to disperse during a dispersion order. Though some of them are vandals, but I thought the only place where teens can actually do something without spending money has a dispersion order placed on it - whilst when this on, I went to speak to a group of 3 friends and they said that there weren't allowed to be groups of more that 3 teens, which is a bit harsh as most teens who hang around the town when I've been down there haven't caused trouble in all these years. I bet it was some bigot vandals that caused too much trouble and they slapped it on.

I'd say run him over three times, then get a police officer to shoot him. Security can wear guns, if you ask me.

Hey I know, let's ban all knives too. After all, more kids get stabbed to death than shot.

And as we all know, criminals are honest citizens who will hand over their knives the day the new law is put in place.

That something is impossible in a time-span that involves multiple generations doesn't mean it shouldn't be done at all.

Banning guns for civil use is a good thing. Period.

Oh definitely and the worker's union of chefs will be jolly and happy and skip along when they have to cut open a lobster with a spoon.

I would like to have the thread locked if that's ok. I think it could become a flame war at anytime.
