Im in my last year of high school now and am looking into getting into a university or college that deals with graphic design (3D modeling / animation preferably). Ive got a few colleges picked out, and I'm pretty sure Ill get in with my grades, but I was wondering about scholarships. If anyone on here has seen my 3D work Id say I'm pretty decent for being completely self taught, I know all of the major processes and how to do them fairly well (concept art, modeling, UV mapping, rigging, texturing, animating, etc. ), and to top it off I've been programming for the past 5 or so years, so I know what's required in terms of game - usable media.

So I always hear of people getting scholarships for sports, journalism, etc, and I was wondering if there's a way to get one for graphics design, and how someone would go about doing that.

Anyone know?

So do you wanna go into graphic design or animation??

Anyway, I've seen your modelling. It's decent stuff, but I don't think it would score scholarships. Looks like the typical quality stuff that folk here submit as part of their folio to get in the school, let alone be offered free money.

I found scholarships in stuff like GD/animation is different from your usual scholarships. If your work if that amazing already, then why even bother going to school? Here they give out scholarships based on your potential, judging by the variety of work you submit and the multiple skill sets you show. Not the greatest work, period.

Trust me, I went through the annoying pain. I got frustrated because people with sh*t work were being accepted into schools I was being rejected from.

I don't know, I do a pretty hard Games Technology course at University, and if I'd known it at the time, I could have shown off some of my simple, simple DBP projects and more than likely gotten a scholarship. If you're lucky, there are some companies or government organisations that are literally throwing money at people who apply for it.

As an example, there's a scholarship available for 5 people by the ATO (Australian Taxation Office) specific for my course. There are only 10 people left out of 35 entry (almost at the end of 3rd Year now, moving into Honours next year), and not a single person applied for it. The previous year, 1 person applied for it, so they gave him two scholarships (ie, $4K instead of $2K).

Look into the scholarships that are available, and apply for everything and anything you can. But only commit to the ones that you want to (some require work after Uni, etc).

As for Uni's/Colleges, I don't know about your area, sorry

Aiki the difference is the models I show here dont have my full skill put into them, as they're usually for mini DBP games or modelling contests that I dont care much to win. If I knew a scholarship was at hand, I'd take a solid week per model making sure it looked like top quality stuff.

Ohwell Ill just try to get in the hard way.

the problem with scholarship funds is that they are often set up by people who have done very well in whatever field the scholarship is in.

I don't have a sig, live with it.
