I wouldn't say the first, I'll be honest and say I don't really know the history of power metal - but I'd argue that from listening them and similar bands like Iced Earth, Gamma Ray, Stratovarius etc. are heavily influenced by Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Dio etc. Perhaps there's somebody else who could give the History lesson?

As for tastes, I listen to almost all types of metal as there's too much talent out there in my opinion.

So, I went to bed at 9 PM last night, since I was so dang tired. It's been at least three years since I've gone to bed that early, and it felt good. After about 30 hours of no sleep, I felt my brain basically turning into a paperweight. I was still thinking coherently, just in an extremely exhausted state and wasn't really able to focus on anything, though I was still able to watch the new NCIS and NCIS: Los Angeles.

I don't think I'm going to stay up for over 30 hours ever again.

Quote: "A Software Engineer, a Hardware Engineer and a Branch Manager were on their way to a meeting. They were driving down a steep mountain road when suddenly the brakes on their car failed. The car careened almost out of control down the road, bouncing off the crash barriers, until it miraculously ground to a halt scraping along the mountainside. The car's occupants, shaken but unhurt, now had a problem: they were stuck halfway down a mountain in a car with no brakes. What were they to do?

"I know," said the Branch Manager, "Let's have a meeting, propose a Vision, formulate a Mission Statement, define some Goals, and by a process of Continuous Improvement find a solution to the Critical Problems, and we can be on our way."

"No, no," said the Hardware Engineer, "That will take far too long, and besides, that method has never worked before. I've got my Swiss Army knife with me, and in no time at all I can strip down the car's braking system, isolate the fault, fix it, and we can be on our way."

"Well," said the Software Engineer, "Before we do anything, I think we should push the car back up the road and see if it happens again.""

It's so true.

I get it.

And I'm currently running on -3 years of sleep. That's right. I'm asleep right now! I found the secret to functioning normally while asleep nearly 3 years ago, and I'm still not sure if I'm asleep or not...

How in the world did you stay up that long?! That's about twice the amount of time I stayed up last night, and I was nearly dead when I finally went to bed! Did you Monster yourself up, or drink like 80 espresso's? Did you drink Jolt?

Good news;

Ive started two new swords ^_^

One is toushiro's hyourinmaru

The other is

バインディング氷破片

'Binding Ice shard'

These swords are being designed in myu spare time so progress has been slow. Then i had the bright idea to call a few favours in, in the tec rooms. So i brought my own tools in to use, am got working.

Binding Ice' took me a while to find, by find i mean i searched for a piece of wood without any knots. This was afeat in itself for C4 timber.

Hyourinmaru' is made from Greenheart, for those that know nothing about wood,

This piece i cut using a specialist saw, with a diamond dust teeth coating. This certain cut has been underwater for the last two hundred years supporting the docks near southport. It still looks brand new. This wood is in most senses unbreakable, on top of that, the grain flows from tip to hilt, eliminating it from be ripped in half.

Some Info;

http://www.woodmagazine.com/materials-guide/lumber/wood-species-2/greenheart

Iam going to spend four hours on it tommorow as i only have two lessons in the mourning.

As for Binding ice' Ill trace the design then prime it, After that i can retrace the design and spray it on.

So i have my work cut out for me
-(ignoring the pun)

Bad news;

I cant find my sketch book since the place got turned upside down while the teachers are preparing work for a art exhibition and fashion show. So its lost in about 2000 pieces of work and stock. Yay

Though some of my work is on display again so ^_^

My arms are killing me from the vibrations off the sander and saw. -_-"

Will post a pic of bladed moon' tomorrow along with a progress report on these.

Heres that tribal board i did, done with its first coat (two more detail layers left)

Power Metal doesn't have the Punk influence that Thrash has, and instead it has the melodic influence of Iron Maiden and those other bands you mentioned. I don't know what was the first true Power Metal band, but that's pretty much what it is: Thrash without the Punk influence, and instead with a greater NWOBHM influence.

Iced Earth was pretty good with their first 3 singers, but once they got their former Judas Priest singer they just got too Power Metal-ish for me. I like their "Dark Saga" album, it's got some of their most Thrash influenced songs yet.

Quote: "As for tastes, I listen to almost all types of metal as there's too much talent out there in my opinion."

Yes, there are talented musicians in every genre of metal. But there are some genres I just can't listen to, such as Power Metal, Rap Metal, and some of the more over the top Death Metal.

Funny, I actually prefer the former Judas Priest singer (Tim 'Ripper' Owens) because his voice has more power to it...which I suppose illustrates why you'd prefer somebody like Matt Barlow. Matt Barlow returned to the band last year and I had the liberty of shaking his hand and calling him a legend. He recorded with them the album, "Something Wicked Part 2", which is really good and the did a tour last year - so I got to compare the 2 different singers by watching them live (I saw Iced Earth with Ripper Owen the year before) and I found I still preferred Ripper.

Here's a song from the album

While they slept, the chemist smelled smoke, and looked out into the hallway. He saw that there was a small electrical fire. He quickly loctaed the fire exstinguisher, put out the flames, and went back to sleep.
An hour later, the physiscist smelled smoke, woke up, looked out into the hallway, and saw a fire caused by a cigarrette but left of the carpet. He grabbed the blanket from his bed, and used it to smother the flames, cutting its supply of oxygen. He then went back to sleep.
Another hour later, the mathematician smelled smoke. He looked out into the hallway, saw a growing fire coming from the open door of one of the othert rooms. He looked around, spotted the fire hose, and declared; "AHA! A soultion exists!"
He then went back to sleep."

It's not that I don't like the guy who was in Judas Priest (though I do prefer the lower octave of Matt Barlow's voice), it's just that the music itself became much less Thrash influenced and far more Power Metal influenced. They also took the whole "concept album" thing too far. I have no problem with telling a story through an album, in fact it can be kind of cool. They did it well with Night of the Stormrider and The Dark Saga, but Something This Way Comes takes it too far. When I listen to music I want to hear songs, not sound effects!
