Hi all,

So some days ago I purchased the orange box from steam(awesome deal) which contains the following games:

*HL2(Already had it, so you get it as a gift to give whoever you want)
*HL2: EP 1
*HL2: EP 2
*Team Fortress 2
*Portal

So Team Fortress 2 hasn't officaly been released yet, but when you purchase the orange box you get access to the open beta.

Tried it out and absolutely loved it. Great fun. Many classes to chose from and they all play an important part in the game. Also the best online FPS experience I've had when it comes to work together as a team to win. And it all works out great and pretty balanced.

I was just wondering if anyone else here have tried the game, and what they think of it so far? Would be nice to see if other TGC'ers also plays it, hehe.

My favorite class so far is the Heavy... big guy with a cool machine gun! And with a medic healing and buffing from the sideline you got yourself a real killer

Oh and while I'm at it, here's some great videos that introduce classes from the game(There's a total of 9 classes) Oh and just to make sure that everything is fine, I have to warn that the videos do contain violence. Although the videos are rendered in funny cartoonish style.

Meet the soldier:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QbZOeGyd61E

Meet the heavy:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mY5qJHZCz2I&mode=related&search=

Meet the engineer:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJzRGrQ8_Gs&mode=related&search=

Also the render in-game is the same style. It's lovely

So yeah, anyone that've tried or play the game?

Cheers.

You had me thinking HL2 EP2 was released and I got all excited. Not long to go now though.

BUT I did not know about this silly orange box rubbish. I already have HL2 and HL2 EP1 and to play EP2 and Portal you HAVE to buy the orange box version and thus are buying HL2 and EP1 again! All they will let you do is give away a free version of the stuff you already own. You can't even sell it. Why oh why can't they just release EP2 on its own???

@Spooky: You should of waited, you would of got 5 games for £40. Edit: I think they are selling EP2 on its own when the Orange Box comes out.

I have been waiting for the new TF since the TFC/HL1 days. Glad its finally here (October 9th). I do have a beef with that kit they put together tho. Yes its a great deal for the 5 items, but I would suspect that most people interested in TF2 and Portal and EP2 already own HL2 and EP1 - this is the reason I refuse to buy it and thus cannot play the beta of tf2

They should really offer a bundle of TF2, EP2, and Portal so that the owners of hl2 and ep1 could join the fun

I have waited this long, 2 weeks longer is a piece of cake

They will Just like they will release TF2 on its own when it's released. I don't hope they think that most fans will purchase the whole box just to get one episode.

hehe, we still play to this day. I host a bot server on weekends.

btw, October 9th, 2007 (the official US release date for ep2, portal, and tf2) is the same date as my wedding anniversary with the missus. I can't wait to see her reaction when I tell her we are not going out to Peter Luger's for steaks, instead we will be ordering a pizza and gaming into the weee hours... wish me luck

I think we'll need the whole TGC community to wish you luck and then you might, just might have a very small chance of making it out alive But in any way, good luck.

Spooky,
I also have HL2 and HL2 episode 1.
But after I read the price for Portal and Episode 2, which together costs $49.9, I decided that it would be better to buy the orange box which only costs 44.95 with Team Fortress 2 and Peggle extreme included

I allways afraided from a clowns. aww..

To be honest the price is neither here or there as I earn a decent crust, but it's just annoying to read all the various posts on the steam forum that claim they will never release EP2 as a standalone product, but the question is: why? Why force users to rebuy HL2 and EP1 when they already have them? All this nonsense that they will then 'allow' you to give away your purchased versions as a 'gift' is also nonsense.

I'll wait a while and see what happens. Hopefully they will see sense and just release them as standalone products like before.

Spooky, iirc EP2 will be a stand alone release like ep1 was, then there will be an option to add Portal and tf2, but none of it available in advance like the orange box, only on or after oct 9. Also i think the UK release is oct 11 - not sure.

...I like how valve has put HL2 in almost every release, just so they can say "over 2 million copy's sold!" well crap if they'd stop bundling it with everything else! JESUS! Ima get TF2 once its released separate.

I am hoping Valve got smart and just built in the ability for bots/bot servers into TF2, instead of having to muck about with third party tools.

Well from what I've tried so far I can't tell. The create server option doesn't a whole lot of options yet. All you really can do is choose a map... so I don't even think you can use it yet. And I haven't seen any servers with bots on. Although it is still a beta after all. Maybe it'll include all of those options in the final version.

I'll probably buy it to test, though I doubt it will be as good as the original in game play. I used to play Mega TF Keepaway for hours and hours until it filled up with cheaters. Then they shut down the server ... bah. I also hated TFC for the most part. I wonder if someone will make a mega version of TF2 0_o
