PGPS Contest Entry. Era Blaze - M.I.A.

Background:
Era Blaze M.I.A (set in 1984) is a small 4 level demo game based of a full length game called Era Blaze (set in 1987). The game is based on Run and Gun, set in a remote location. You are held prisoner along with a member of your team. Your Team member has made a escape, yet how long will it last.

Since there's only one picture to comment on...

I like the lighting and how the textures flow with each other. Making an outside section is a little tricky, but it looks good! The plant entities definitally add to the effect.

Good luck!

Perhaps add a littel rising grass to the bottom of the wall texture, so that the transition between wall and floor is less obvious, also the mirror effect used to make the wall segment texture seamless is quite obvious, if you look just above the plant that's above the gun, you'll see what I mean.

It's a nice lookin outdoor scene though, would be nice to see a little more of what'd going into it though, as right now it's hard to tell how good it is!!

@Plystire - Thanks for the comments and good luck to you also.

@Butter fingers - Thanks for the advice and comments. Not sure how much outdoors is planned for the contest entry as it will focus more on the inside of a old prison/war base. Funny thing when i tried to make finer grass, I either could walk over it or fell through it.

Edit, worked out walking through grass.

Hard to say with little showing but looks a good start, i feel it needs a bit more detail with the grass and maybe some boxes to fill it up a bit but like i said hard to say with so little showing.

Nice screenshot good start

Update.

Well, the screens never happened. Sorry people, im working on it.
And so far the main reason being that 4 levels was not enough to complete this demo, however im super happy it was up'd from 3.
The levels have been reworked to be able to keep everything clean and good game play, and more so under the guidelines.

keep everyone posted soon.

Update.
New screen added to the first post. (No entitys really, will do this later after the level has been tested for lag spots).

In future I will update the first post with any additional shots when they are ready for upload. As the 1st shot was subject to change.

@ Fluffy,
Thanks, something im not trying to do but if some people thinks it reminds them of farcry, well i guess thats not so bad, as it was a good game.

Oh, before i forget. The Guns have yet to be decided, so 90% chance the hands will be changed. Funny thing, ive just been placing guns in random places, so i can pick up and test parts of levels.

Thanks again, good luck with your contest entry also.

No problem Nickydude. I'll connect up some equipment and make a vid. Sounds like a good idea. I will try not take days like last time i replied in this thread about screens.
Im working on more screens also to post here, however 1 of the 4 levels, is stashed away.

Thanks for the comment, appreciate it.

Well...After a few long nights going to 3-4am. Im happy to say that the mini game Era Blaze M.I.A has been finished and a entry into the PS game contest.
Even though, there was a few small things I would have liked to spend more time on, Im happy to say its playable.

FIRST POST UPDATED* (includes shots of the playable zones)

Also, I found the best glitch ever in the fpsc program. I have a story zone very close to the start point of the first level. If the players looks around a bit first, everything plays fine. If the player walks straight into the story zone, as soon as the game starts. Some how FPSC can not handle it, and slows down the cutscene at the start, sometimes even a repeating the first word a few times. Either way, no matter what I did, this is a problem within FPSC, and I had no way to fix it.

I also ran into a problem where all my AVI's ran smooth in Media Player, then after running them via FPSC, show up pixelated, not sure why. I guess it's a FPSC thing again. As I made MPEG2 clips, that worked ok. Yet I wasnt sure if all the judges would have the correct CODECS, to play the cutscenes.

Also one other slight problem I found, some of the free media found at a well known free media site, didnt have a License included with the media. After sending out some contact emails, not to get a reply. I removed both Entitys, and then created my own and replaced them within the levels.

Anyway apart from alot of parts of the mini game being rapped up within this last week, the game has been completed and submitted.
Mini Game is 4 Levels in game play length, includes custom music plus additional cutscenes. And will be available for free download soon.

Thanks to people that gave support and help. You know who you are.

I found another shot I was going to upload, so I've added it to the first post.
I plan to upload some pics of the entitys that were custom made, and I might release some other pictures after the contest end date, like some of the outdoor scenes.

@Inspire - cheers man. I tried to learn how some of the engine works while doing this.

UPDATE:
I would have liked to spend extra time on the demo, however the scoring was based on selected areas, so contents was more important for me. I hope people like the custom HUD and game track with-in the game.

Era Blaze M.I.A demo game - Download
REMOVED. No longer hosted on sendspace.

Also just to add, after reading a comment by ButterFingers in another thread about how war games are over done or something, Im now a bit suss on the whole idea, and even though I plan to release EraBlaze as I once hoped too. I think I will sit it aside for awhile. Thanks again to the forum users for their interest in this thread.

Well, the results are in. And the game didnt get past the top 5, thats life. Yet maybe what I read ButterFingers mentioned elsewhere is correct.
I now see that spending the time on graphics didnt really matter.

@darimc - I scaned the file before upload and it was clean of any virus's etc. I got a friend to download last night, and it was all good for him. Good luck, and thanks again.

@General powell11 - That would be sendspace hey, the upload was 7hours at 6kb. Thanks for leaving a comment, hope you like it.

Just played it and I have to say man you should of at least placed higher in the contest. I havent played the other entries but your level design was great. The music could have used some work, kinda felt more like a club scene than an action type music, but really that was the only thing that was iffy to me. I really liked the game. I'm not sure if you'r continueing this into a full fledged game or not but I would add a bit more of an odd twist to it as not to make it seem like a typical shooter. Great job

Thanks Fluffy, thanks for your comments over this project thread, and glad you liked the game.

D13 - Thanks for your comment,
yeah the beats didnt fit the gameplay hey. Song was created for the site, and I guess I ran out of time, so it went in.
Also thanks for your interest in where this is heading, I see what you mean by twist, and its a pitty i couldnt really add any to the demo story.

Thanks again D13, Im keeping an eye on that work of yours also.

EDIT
"Im not sure how long sendspace keeps files up(active or non-active)"
The file has now been deleted by Sendspace. It takes 7hours to upload, so its gone.

Era Blaze development has been moved to Storage.

Hey Drapes#10.
Interesting, have you had any problems running a game using Phoenix Sentry before. I had a friend that couldnt load past the settings also, and installed .Net framework and I think it ran for him after. I added a download link on the demo download page.
Not really alot I can help with yet, as Im unaware of all the solutions.
Your the first to mention, so if I can locate what might be the problem I will inform you.
Thanks for trying out the demo.
