I'm actually amazed, and grateful, nobody was killed:
http://deseretnews.com/article/1,5143,695222194,00.html

In talking with another EMT that responded to this accident, he said that the patient the ambulance was transporting ended up in about the best condition, and since he/she(not sure which) was unconscious from the previous wreck, didn't know the difference. The EMTs attending the patient in the back of the ambulance ended up with several broken bones, but otherwise they're ok.

It just made me realize how much danger EMTs and firefighters are willing to put themselves in to help others. I think it's a good time to remember them and the work they do to help others.

What's crazy is this was one of our newest ambulances with some of the best equipment on it. I saw it after it was towed back into town at the shop and yeah, it's totalled. I wish I had some pictures.

Yeah, it stands for Emergency Medical Technion, a lot of people call them paramedic also. But paramedics are usually the ones who go to their patient in a helicopter.

Does how they arrive at the patient really change their job description..?

Well, if they flew by themselves and saved people you'd call them a superhero. Superman's basically just a paramedic/police man with a particularly fetching uniform.

This kinda reminds me of an accident that happened recently here. A truck crashed, rolled over, and fell apart. Firemen and medics were on the scene helping the 11 (or so, I think) victims, when a second truck came in and crashed into all of them. Various died, including firemen, reporters, medics, and survivors from the first crash (who were at the time being interviewed by the reporters, saying that coming out alive from the accident was like being brought back to life, being born again).

Sort of. There's like three levels of EMTs in the US (it varies a little from state to state). But there's EMT Basic, intermediate, and then paramedic.

@TKF15H,
Wow, that really sucks. The worst accident I've seen personally is when a truck completely loaded with immigrants rolled a few miles out of our town. I was coming home from another town, and for like a 7 or 8 mile stretch it was one ambulance after another, rescue vehicles, and firetrucks. It does something to you when you see dead bodies on the side of the road. Makes you realize how precious life really is and how fragile we humans really are.

Bloodiest accident I've ever seen was a motorcycle crash. I have a thread about it somewhere on here. But basically the cyclists leg from the knee down appeared to be gone... Pretty freaky.

@ Jeku

Yeah, I mean because they are different than the other four kinds.

respect to ambulance drivers and paramedics world wide though, the amount of risky situations they are confronted with on their job and the emotional trauma they often endure makes it one of the harder jobs out there. Before you go spouting off at an ambulance that has cut you off, remember that one day they may be the ones who have to save you!

Worst accident I saw was a 3/4 ton pickup roll over, it caught fire and the passenger was pinned. The driver got out ok and ended up cutting off his friends arm with a chainsaw to get him out before he burned to death. The smell was awful, I had no idea how to help in that situation.

1992, just of rt 195 in westport, MA. You think you are prepared to act in a crisis, heck I did the whole boyscout thing and all, and a situation like that happens and you have no idea what to do. If you know the feeling you get just before you cry, that choked up, feels like you are only able to take small breaths feeling, thats what I had all I could do was grab an old blanket from the car after the man was pulled out, but I couldn't even bring it all the way over, his friend came over to me to get it.
