To aid my foosball WiP, I could do with foosball players giving me an idea of what techniques they use in real life that they think should be included in the game. It uses dark physics, so anything you can do in real life in terms of ball control, should be possible in the game. So I'm thinking more about how you use your hands and manipulate the players. Then, any suggestions for control mechanisms would be appreciated. I think my hardest challenge will be to make it controllable and natural, without being fiddly, so all suggestions would be good.
The sort of control ideas I'm after are things like: Allow lifting of lines of players in front of the ball, to allow shots to move through (auto or manual), like you do with your leading hand. That can be done by a key, which lifts the next line up, or manually, and then they players stay lifted, for example.
Then ideas for a control mechanism would be great. At the moment the controls are:
1,2,3,4 - Press and hold to select bank of players (can hold more than one at a time)
Mouse left/right - Swing players left and right
Mouse up/down - move bank of players up and down
Control ideas:
Left mouse - automatic power shot, to avoid the pain of swinging mouse left/right
Right mouse - Raise bank of players in front of ball, to allow the shot to fire through, as you would do with your leading hand.
I also have a mechanism where you select the bank of players with the mouse, hold down the LMB and then move the mouse to manipulate the players. Not sure if this'll be quick enough though. I'm happy to include multiple control mechanisms if anyone can suggest a goodun.
Any help appreciated chaps.
