Hello everybody!
I am working on a Door Pack in my free time and I need some help (ideas).
I have noticed that FPSC has only small doors and I wanted some bigger ones for one of my games. They are mostly like big gates but I will call them "doors" just to avoid any confusion.
Ok, I have 4 types of doors so far so there’s a great chance for a Door Pack Release. If someone else is interested of course. All of them will come at least in 3 different sizes (including the door frame) - 4x2, 4x3, 5x3 where the first digit is the width and the second one is the height (measured in segments units). Each door will have it’s own animation depending on what type it is.
I plan to create some horizontal doors to be used on floors (with "No CSG" disabled of course). I have ideas for that, but will be very happy to hear any suggestions from you – door types, sizes, animations…
Some screens here:

The last one is a laser barrier and you will have to deactivate it by a switch, otherwise the player will be killed if he tries to go through.

Please note that the textures are not at their final version and I may post more screens later.

Well, any comments and suggestions are well appreciated.

Thanks to both of you!

Tanya, I am very sorry, I haven't checked this e-mail address for a while.
Well, I will make a custom link for downloading this pack tonight and will send you the details when I'm ready. Hope that's ok with you

Cheers!

Ice Cube,

Very nice work! Oversized doors are definitely a welcome addition.

I like the look of these...looks like you have the basics covered. Any chance you could work in an overhead rollup door (think receiving bay) in the mix?

I look forward to seeing how these turn out.

Thanks,

Alt Schule

Btw, I have many downloads of the free packs which have been proceeded through the shopping cart system.
Please use the "Download Button" bellow instead of "add this to my cart" - it's very easy and faster indeed

@Alt Schule, Thanks a lot.
Quote: "Any chance you could work in an overhead rollup door "

Do you mean a door which moves from the floor to the ceiling when opens? If yes, I already have that door - it's the 2nd picture in my 1st post. But if you want the opposite animation, I'll do that and include it in the pack.
Basically I can animate the doors to open in each direction and if you have any interesting ideas, please feel free to post them here

@paublo4, Thanks a lot and good luck with your games!
I plan to release the pack next weekend, btw.

Tanya, I have sent you an e-mail with download instructions.

Cheers!

How about doors that open diagonal? Something like:

@Nickydude, do you mean:
<-/.../-> - it's definitely possible
or
"/" (the left door) moves to top-left and "/" (the right one) moves to bottom-right? - I think it's possible and is not in offence with the door collision, but have never tried it indeed. Of course, if it's possible I will include it in the pack.

@Darimc, do you mean a "revolving door"?
If not, what's default shape of the door, when it's closed? A spiral?

Yeah, It's a circle when it's closed and as it opens it spin into sections and then opens.

And I can't wait to have more free time to model it Hopefully tonight...

Good morning Tanya, thanks for the great comments! I hope that you have a Great day too!
I think if the pack contains 10 types of animated doors, more of them in 3 different sizes (those which have frames), the pack should be something like 3.99 GBP. I plan to start a sale at 2.99 GBP for the first 30 or 50 purchases (I will decide later).
Of, course if anybody is not happy with that price, please feel free to discuss it here
Btw, I will post more screens later.

Cheers!

Im interested in this, I made a thread about this in model suggestions in the model section.

For door ideas one just looks to the different screen swipes one gets in animation programs or animated giff programs, these have lost of swipe effects that one can take ideas from.

styles - bars, like a prison, both real world type, and sci fi ones, metal shutters, castle draw bridge, gates like on a big mansion or haunted estate, sci fi doors, with sections that move or slot in place. round door that opens and shuts like a camera shutter. svivel door, cowboy saloon doors, lazer screen doors that de rez (barrier like, as in a lazer seet not beams like in star wars 1 with darth maul fight at the end), lots of ways of doing lazer barriers, they can have the lazer come from the side, the top the bottom both at once, loads of decal effects one can do for the lazer door coming on etc, just lots one can do with that. How about doors that scan you, with a beam coming out to see if you have the identity to access them, doors with glass sections one can shoot out, aliens versus predetor 2 had those, they looked great, infact glass doors or doors with part glass in or glass sections look great, so some of those, doors with some parts opening by going in the ceiling some in the floor, that goes to the swipes I spoke of, like I said you have loads of software that has transition effects, so you can get swipe effects from that, two that come to mind, website x5, that has page transition effects you can get ideas for how doors should open and shut in a facy way, and paint shop pro the animation part, that has image transitions you can get effects from on how doors could open and shut in fancy ways.

Just thought of another, a star gate (like the TV show) with facy pants animated surface, Im sure fpsc users can add to the list, lets see what people come up with.

sub note, the lazer bars you did, the unit on the floor gets in the way, either the bottom part is just disks in the floor, dont make them, just make a decal, or the units are on the side leaving the floor un cluttered. infcat sideways and vertical kind is good.

stick an alpha channel on that lazer beam as well so its got some transparency.

WOW, @fallen one, we can include that in a brand new "Idea Pack"
Great ideas btw. Thanks!
Are you sure, the laser is supposed to have some transparency?
Quote: "doors with part glass in or glass sections look great,"

I think that's not possible (not a 100% sure) if you want the glass pat to be distructable. It may cause collision problems. If it's just a static glass it will be a part of the door and that's ok with fpsc.
Quote: "doors with some parts opening by going in the ceiling some in the floor"

I already have those.

Ok, I will have more detailed look on your suggestions and will decide which will be good for this pack.

Cheers!

I have some HARSH C&C!
The Gates on the first one have too much stretch on the textures.
The second one. Has a couple of stretch.
The third one. The gate thingy mabobs that produce the beams look to natural, e.g. Veins and stuff. Make a metal version of it so people can fit it into any scene.

I never had a doubt
If you read more carefully you may notice that I have posted the following: "Please note that the textures are not at their final version".
Anyway, what are you suggesting for the first door, an UV map? LOL
I think it looks more natural and realistic the way it is now, but if you have a better suggestion you are always welcome!

I have 2 more door types finished and will post screens tomorrow.

Cheers!

I was advised I might have copyright issues for the iris door if I make it exactly the same (Half Life 2), so I decided to come up with my own animation for this type of door.
Video (*.avi): Download Here

Of course any suggestions for making this better are welcome!

I will also create demo videos for all the doors when the pack is finished.

Cheers!

Can you change the speed the doors open / shut by script? A gaming idea would be that the player has to reach a set of doors before they close.

Also, if you're interested, I can try to put together some door / switch sounds for you (although I can't promise anything).

Here's an example: http://www.madladdesigns.co.uk/fpsc/doorswitchopen.mp3

Of course you can. Simply right click and set the speed to whatever you want.
That's what I wanted to show in the 1st video - 3 spiral/iris doors:
1st one - speed 100
2nd one - speed 50
3rd one - speed 10

Doh, of course!

If you want the sounds, I'll need to know how many how many seconds each door opens by default and what type they are (wood, stone...)

Well, most of the doors "sound" great with the original scifi\scenery\doors sounds and I think I may need only 3 sounds for the large doors (metal).
At this moment I need only 1 metal sound - 4 or 5 seconds (whatever suits you). It's for the Large Gate (video 5 in my first post). If you have a good suggestion for that, you are welcome! If not - don't worry, I will create this later.
Another advantage is that you can apply whatever sound you like depending on how the door fits to your game. Let's say you have a gate which opens in 5 seconds. You create/download/buy a sound you find good and just right click and apply it.

You may also include some door sounds in your next sound pack if you wish. This way the users will have more options to make their games more interesting.
