That's the one, not read it either, but it's one of the books I've got on my Christmas list (or plan to buy with my next student loan payment) as well as Njal's Saga and Laxdaela Saga as recommended to me, but I'll look up Gisla Saga.

Amazon has a book full of Icelandic tales that I might buy as well - looking at all of the styles of these stories might come in handy when stylizing my prose.

i've read laxdæla saga it's a great story and since you're interested in this stuff, i recommend you read Grettis saga, it's by far the best one in my oppinion..

Cheers, I'm adding them all to a reading list - they might come in handy with one of my lectures - if I do the contrast from 'Oral Culture to literary culture' (as I've started researching Mesopotamian stories, the side by side comparison of bronze age works and post-dark ages work might prove doable), then I might be able to slip them in, dependent on their history and context (if it's oral relations aren't clear or important, then of course I won't, but they'll be interesting reads none-the-less and helpful for this project)

If you don't use -s for plurals but -er or -ar then using -s for possessive makes sense to me. If you want it to look authentic you should refrain from using '.

Fairplay, makes sense as I am not using the English version of a plural - I suppose like most things with it you'd be able to pick it up from the context.

By applying a few rules strictly it will be much easier to understand the language. Most languages are filled with exceptions to common rules or have more then one genus which have slightly different rules but you must basically learn what genus each word belong to.

Like:
An apple, Apple, The apple, Apples, The apples
Ett äpple, Äpple, Äpplet, Äpplen, Äpplena

A dog, Dog, The dog, Dogs, The dogs
En hund, Hund, Hunden, Hundar, Hundarna

As you can see we use Ett/En depending on genus and Äpplen (Apples) and Hunden (The dog) have the same ending though they are bent differently. Unless you are a native you'll have plenty of problems, even some natives can't get it right.

Indeed, with parts like that, I think it'll be safer to use the English grammar there - rather than have it completely dominated by the Scandinavian in that respect as the English is easier to understand and I know I'll be throwing people off as it is, but the English is more regular and regularity, not only will be easier to remember but creates patterns and as storytelling principles are based on repetition and common patterns - that would merit using the English version of grammar here, as the language could be better used to reflect that.
