Butchered? About as much as they had in common was the name You're so dramatic I didn't go to watch it because it was a 1000 year old story, I went to watch it because I wanted some entertainment

Sounds like they used the name 'Beowulf' to make it sell then. It's a name everybody recognises. Imagine if they get a hold of the Iliad (again?), Gilgamesh, Edda or the Sagas? Goodness it would be a nightmare if I know my Hollywood right.

I think it\'s a horrible world we live in when \"bad language\" is seen to be more harmful to kids than watching someone get stabbed

I think there\'s way too much violence in films and it\'s too graphic. Yes sometimes violence needs to be shown and being horrified is part of the experience for some films, but I don\'t like how people can watch someone get brutally murdered and just accept it because it\'s a movie. Horror films are so shiit right now, they have no plot, the horror genre has just become a freak show trying to see how much they can gross us out.

300 was awesome, great looking film and brilliant acting (@xeno this was also based on literature much older than beowulf) I loved how everything looked slightly bronzed.
I also liked the exaggerations that were told about the elephants etc that the greeks had never seen before

Haven\'t seen Beowulf and don\'t really want to, I work in Blockbuster Video and have heard bad things about it. I don\'t even know where it is in the store anymore

I doubt beowulf (the new version) is at blockbuster yet. It was just released in theaters, and has 3d glasses and it's in full 3d. It's amazing, go watch it!

Why, oh why, would anyone praise this version of the story? The action, the cgi, maybe even the cinematography (maybe someone would), but why the story? It's completely unsatisfactory, and has no buildup in any of the right places. it also has the feel that little to nothing happened, aside from the three major scenes (Grendel, Mother, Dragon). And what about the ending which is basically "whup, well I guess nothing really mattered". The Character development can be summarized in the words I... AM... BEOWULF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You probably didn't like Sin City either then. I bet you would have liked 300 more if it were a cartoon. Though I'd have to admit it would be really hard to get the movement down right as a cartoon. It would probably have come out awfully unless it had some amazing animatiors
