I haven't done a fun post yet . . .

Here's one: What is the worst job you have done?

Mine is a toss up between:

1: a maintanence job where I worked for a guy who was drunk by 7 am and was stoned by 1 pm and one time I was elbow deep in sewage (this job I quit after falling three stories from a ladder).

2: a lay-out and design job where I was eventually fired by the publisher after playing out a red ink war in a dispute essentially between vertical (say, Yahoo or WSJ) and horizontal (as in "DEWEY DEFEATS TRUMAN" or "JAPS BOMB PEARL HARBOR!") design.

or working in that greengrocers which was no bigger than a closet with nothing to do - well cept hear about all these old bitties with thier "problems"

Indi -- is it true that, aside from folks with religious or culinary issues, that the smallest portion of the sausage eating public is those who make sausage?

I heard that stat years ago . . . Always wondered if it was an urban myth . . . Do you consume pork products?

Helpdesk support ... jeez the amount of stupid calls I've had in 6 years and health problems that came with that crap hole of a job.

<Phone rings ...>

Rav : Software development, how can I help?
DumAss : It's not working!
Rav : Eh? What is not working? Your PC? Application?
DumAss : <Frustrated> The screen, its stuck!!!!
Rav : Can you explain what you mean by "The screen is stuck"?
DumAss : It was wotking, then it stopped working!!
Rav : Okay so you can't see anything on your screen i.e. you have a black screen ?!?
DumAss : No, I can see the stuff but its STUCK!
Rav : <pulls his hair out and thinks "fu*king hell">
Rav : Okay, so what were you doing before it got "stuck"?
DumAss : I was in memo and it got stuck <referring to the daily diary part of the application software>
Rav : Move your mouse and let me know if your mouse pointer moves?
DumAss : Yes it does.
Rav : Ok, move your mouse inside the Memo application window and left click it
DumAss : <Long pause ...> Its working!!!! What was wrong with it?
Rav : Basically you must have clicked outside the Memo window hence it lose the focus, this is why it appeared "stuck". Be careful if you have several windows open at once because only 1 window can have the focus.
DumAss : This new system is horrible, I get nothing but problems!
Rav : <thinks perhaps I can recommend the "Idiots Guide to using Windows 2000 GUI" or something>

Its a pity at my old workplace the programmers had to develop software AND manage helpdesk as well ... no wonder why we all revolted and forced the CEO to get a dedicated helpdesk support team.

I love meat...But somehow nostrils and other mucuous membranes don't qualify as it for my part.

Has anyone else have this problem when you eat let's say sausages or ground beef, chew on something slightly rubberry and cannot swallow anymore of it without having this disgust/vomit feel.

I know that probably 90% of it is psychological but still is gross.

That's why I went TOFU,well not all the way, only for burgers, sausages and most recipes involving ground beef.

Still,no one will keep me from eating a giant rib steak.

Yes it's really a matter of taste which isn't discussable.

I love both and much vegetarian meals, who knows,if the animal rights ever get meat out of the market(and God knows I wouldn't like that!) at least I'll be ready to face the veggie world. lol

Well as far a pork product is concerned,Quebec quality is one if not THE best in the world, make a search to find how much France and England import full of it.

You're talking about American/British import products for I've seen the quality of what they call eatable in some schools and it's purely just gross to even look at.

The actual best product that come from Europe is liver pate, well at least you can easily know what you're eating.

I'd make you a beef steak or a plate of bacon and in a matter of seconds you'd be a meat eater again and would probably move in Canada. muhahaha kill the cows j/k

They're foolish because the diet is extremely bad for them. Our bodies have been made to use meats, and without the nutrients found soley in meats and some only in very specific ones, the body won't live as well. You may notice that a large quantity of vegitatians get white hair a lot sooner than other people-- that's one of the most visible side-effects of the lifestyle.

Nothing is as bad as working under the threat of redundancy. On the 4 or 5th time now. Nothing is designed to cause more stress than the uk redundany laws. Thankfully I work in a nearly empty unit with no management so I can wander about opening locked doors and look at stuff I shouldn't. Found a load of old computers and from "borrowing" the hard disks I have learnt office staff spend a lot of time on the web and don't do a lot of work.

The wost job I have ever heard of is spending the days surrounded by hundreds of boxes of books. Fist you take the books out of the box. Then you peel off the blue label, then stick on the red label and stick the book back in the box. The worst thing is the labels have the same writeing on just a different colour.

lol ...
ya know what gets me about most veggies, it is the faces they make when you have a big nice 14oz steak. I mean seriously, if you want to starve yourselves and look undernorished thats your own choice - i mean a pork pie or scotch egg once in a while wouldn't kill you, but i mean i don't go around making faces when people sit there and eat just bread cause everything has meat/pultry/dairy products in it.

However it is a push when their tummy grumbles and your just thinking "FOR GODS SAKE EAT SOMETHING!!!" but no that not polite on a first date lol
The worst part is it seems like a stupid fad, ya know ... they're all like "oh your so cruel cause you like eat animals, a cow had to die for that steak how does that make you feel?"
(the obvious response is "pretty greatful to the cow for eating so well.")
But i mean its stupid because its not like we're eating animals to extinction - its like these cattle are born & bred specifically for being eaten, they have quite long and happy lives ... i mean do you not carry around an organ donar card so you might help someone live once you die?
Obviously cows don't have cards saying "if i die, please feel free to eat me... my thigh is pretty tender and would make a good roast" but ya know its not like this isn't the way of nature.

If we didn't eat cows, something else would - it would have to, so that it could balance out the equilibrium of nature. Else you'd have a tonne of stupid animals with s**t camoflage gracing all of the countryside killing the balance of nature!
Side at the end of the day we're canivores, we depend on meat to be 100% healthy and give us the protiens we need to survive - although yes cheese can also provide this without killing the animal, to have the same dossage from Cheese as a single steak you'd have to eat a 1kg block of it. And quite frankly i don't think there are enough crackers to achieve it

what a confusing bedlam of statements eh ... well the point is me eat meat and i bloody love it - my Aunt made my Uncle a veggitarian, and i think thats just plain wrong (god she's and evil lil witch w/aB)
i suppose thats why so many people eat McDonalds or BurgerKing, cause i mean c'mon that just ain't meat - its something, but i'm sure it ain't REAL meat lol, just meat flavourings or something it relly just mushed up cardboard brown colourant fried in meat sause to give it the taste lol

I pride myself that i don't kill...
well not without a good reason

I have a cousin who is a vegetarian (he is also pursuing his Masters in Philosophy).

Never really dwelled on the veg issue.

I live a ways from Pittsburgh, and I've seen people eat things like keilbasa, braunswagger (sp?), and a Primanti sandwich. The only vegetarians in this part of the world are served on our plates.

okey Raven (fascist as always ). this about the equilibrium in nature is just plain bullshit. the reason why there are so many cows is that WE are breeding them. nature would balance it up by itself if we didn't eat them. actually the meat industry is a serious environmental problem. the cows we are breeding are eating so much that it actually damages nature. first of all, there are water that is needed to grow all the grain, and for the cows to drink. for every kilogram of meat, there are 100 000 litres of water. just insane. the same amount of water for one kilogram of potatoes is 500 litres. also, the cows eat insane amounts of food. for every kilogram of meat, there are ten kilograms of vegetables. this means that one meat-eater consumes ten times as much food, indirectly, as a vegetarian does. this also means that one vegetarian compensates for ten starving people in the world. did you for example know that if the United States lowered their meat-production by A TENTH (meaning that every american would eat vegetarian food only once every tenth day), there would be no starvation in the world? interesting eh?

some other interesting facts:

30 % of the worlds nitrogen-discharge comes from the meat-production
90 % of the worlds ammonia-discharge comes from the meat-production

between 30-50 % of all greenhouse-gases comes from the meat-production, both the facilites and animals (in the excrements and "farts").

every year, 200 000 square-km of rainforest is devastated, to make it possible to grow food for the animals.

and no, our bodies are NOT made to eat meat. our intestines are not adjusted for melting the meat. guess why a small baby can eat vegetables, but not meat?

and the important proteines and amino-acids contained in the meat can easily be found in other greeds, such as soy, tofu, beans and lentils. i have friends that have never even tasted meat in their entire lives, and are healthier than most of my meat-eating friends.

not to mention the humanitarian aspects. to me, being a vegetarian is an obvious choice.

-okey Raven (fascist as always )

Well voicing it this way is also a form of fascism(intolerance and hate)

-90 % of the worlds ammonia-discharge comes from the meat-production

Most cat lovers(hence ALOT of veggies) have a very high ammonia level in their own house due to the litter which, even if change often, will still produce enough to considerably harm your health.

-and the important proteines and amino-acids contained in the meat can easily be found in other greeds, such as soy, tofu, beans and lentils. i have friends that have never even tasted meat in their entire lives, and are healthier than most of my meat-eating friends.

Actually, the most vegetarian person I knew died of cancer...

Like Linda Mcartney(ok,maybe she's smoked a bit too much in the 70's also )

-every year, 200 000 square-km of rainforest is devastated, to make it possible to grow food for the animals.

During the communist days in Russia, thousands of acres of land were used to test nuclear and biochemical agents making them to this day, still unuseable/unfertile.

You go grow veggies over there if you like.

Yeah, that'd be great so they could hang around highways and rott on the side of the road after passing the cold winter out and FREE.

-not to mention the humanitarian aspects. to me, being a vegetarian is an obvious choice

What is that humanitarian aspect already?

You couldn't even prove in any ways that emotions exist within us or are exactly what we think they are.

Actually, emotions need an intelligence similar to human's because in order for the subject to suffer he has to be conscient of what's happening and then compare it to what is his previous knowledge of suffering.

FGS some humans don't even have any, imagine animals.

Saying animals have feelings is pure BS although many scientists still disagree on it...But that's science.

Did you know that domestic cats are the only animals on earth killing only for the pleasure and because of their primal instincts?(like humans)

BTW:28 days later anyone?

Vegitarians always look very pale skinned, and their hair usually lacks shine. I don't believe in it! I am usually on everbody's side in most arguments, but when something is so obviously wrong, then it has to be made clear. Unless there is a replacement for meat, that works like meat in the body, then don't ruin your health, and your children's health to save animals. If animals like cows had the ability to fight back, and eat humans, they would eat us without having the human guilt factor to bother them.

Ok, i read one of ravens posts, and i cant be arsed to read the rest so here goes.

If we didn't eat cows, something else would - it would have to, so that it could balance out the equilibrium of nature. Else you'd have a tonne of stupid animals with s**t camoflage gracing all of the countryside killing the balance of nature!
IF no one ate cows we would stop breeding them for eating.

But i mean its stupid because its not like we're eating animals to extinction - its like these cattle are born & bred specifically for being eaten, they have quite long and happy lives ...
Well, cows have nice lives, but chickens DO NOT. They are caged up in tiny spaces laying eggs all the time eating to same thing and going nowhere. And do you know how goose paté is made? They shove a tube down the geeses throats and put load of maize down it to swell out thier livers. Now that my friends, is cruel.

Now, i do eat meat, but only because there is no point not eating it because its not going to stop animals being killed. One person does not make a difference

I suspose with the ever increasing population there just won't be the space and meat will only be farmed on land that can't be used to grow crops and will be extreamly expensive.

I do eat meat but not fish or chicken or processed meats. Strange how the public are so opposed to gm foods but don't appear to care that much about what happens to some meat before it reaches the plate.

Saying that you can't survive with out eating meat is untrue it is actially quite easy to get all you need with out eating meat. Some people even manage ok on burger king diets. I would bet most vegies eat better than a lot of the people here.

Fact is,what happens with the meat in Europe/USA before it hits your plate is quite different from what happens to it in Canada...I know I've been over there a few times.

Not wishing to spoil the fun by returning to the topic but

I can beat all your bad jobs, I once cleanned toilets in the morning shift, and sold double glazing in the afternoon! Didn't last long there

Bunnies aren't just cute like everybody supposes, They got them hoppy legs & twitchy little noses,
And what's with all the carrots? What do they need such good eyesight for anyway?

@pincho

I agree with your comments about the rest of nature not having second thoughts about eating us ,however dont be so quick to assume that we vegetarians are dying or dead. I choose to not eat meat because of matters other than moral issues ,but I still do not feel that it is my right to say 'hey dont eat meat because I dont like it' to everybody in the same way you are basically saying 'hey eat meat or youll suffer'.
perhaps you could enlighten me to what is in meat that is actually essential to your body? is it the chemicals ,or the sineous strands of gristle or perhaps just the offal?

HAHAA! .. (^_^)

as for being Fashist about Vegitarian... well if i were a Fashist then i'd say that everyone should conform to my views, when in reality i don't give a flying poop.

Most Vegitarians i know poison themselves some otherway, and most Meat&Potatoe only people are just as bad...
Personally i can't live without meat, i can't live without vegetables - it is medically proven that ADULTs require a certain amount of vitimins and minirals per day which although can be supplimented it is only healthy to injest these through the process of digestion rather than direct dosages.

It builds the immunity system, it keeps your body healthier, and it keeps your body better tonned. This isn't some pushy nonesense about balance of nature of crap like that - although alot of that is also proven facts, it is Scientific fact that the only real healthy way to eat so that your body will keep ticking over properly is though a BALANCED diet.

anyone who does any strenuous activities all day will know that the protiens and energy within meat can give you alot of stamina ... at the same time too much will slowly destory your systems, too much vegetables will leave you weaken but will keep you internals far more clean.
Sure you live longer than a pure meat eater, but i've been on those Vegetables only diets because i had to do one with my mom once to make sure she stuck with it - and from personal experience it is hard to keep training for 2hrs a day on a diet like that, i would train for about 30-40mins before i started to feel weakened ... i'd also find that my overall stamina was just pathetic, and my strength after 20mins was light... not to mention if i actually pushed myself to train for the whole 2hrs i'd feel very very light headed.

I'm sure for people who don't do alot being a vegitarian is a nice thing to be, maybe it balances out smoking, heavy drinking, junk food?
(it is actually extremely amusing how many Vegetarians eat chocolate and other sweet things when really how they are produced oftenly involves animal left over products)

way i see it, i live a very healthy lifestyle ... just because it involves a cow/pig/turky/chicken/etc dieing whenever i want to eat some meat, then so be it. Why should i care that people on the other side of the world that i'll never meet are starving?
I mean it isn't my fault or my governments fault that they live on baron lands, it isn't our fault that they don't have enough money to build a farm ... if these people wanted to survive and have clean water, and food ... they would have it. There is no way in hell i'd let my living conditions stop me from surviving, and i won't be guilted into giving these people something they're not willing to earn. They go on about how they will be killed if they try to take or make what they need - but to be honest i'd rather die within an instant than slowly starve to death, atleast if i tried there would be a chance that i'd be able to do something to survive rather than sit around bitching how life is unfair.
Life is as fair as you make it - if you don't push for what you want you will never get it.

you think these are fashist views then fine i'm a fashist, its funny how i've been labeled twice in a single day as things ... a Racist Fashist, i'm sure in your eyes i am - just how you've been brought up i suppose. Squash any opinion that doesn't fit within the bubble of life you wish to accept.
I'm not forcing my opinion on you, i don't give a sod what you do with your lives or how you live them ... this is how i live my life and how i see it, i'm not looking for approval or people to live it the same - life would be boring if we were all mindless drones.

All i'm saying is take the same respect i'm showing to you guys and not try to force your ideals upon me because all you'll end up with is my comtempt not for your views but for how your choosing to display them forcefully.

and ... nope can't beat that Sam you win

I pride myself that i don't kill...
well not without a good reason

While I think Raven's words might be a bit wrong, I also think that people should eat meat. I'm not saying that I think that vegetarians should be FORCED to eat meat, but as humans we are meant to eat meat. That is why you are born with those pointy teeth in your mouth. We are not herbivores (we are not carnivores either), we are omnivores. We are meant to eat both meat and veggies.
As it has been said, things can be suplimented, but it is not the same as the real thing. Your veggies could be supplimented also.

I also like to hunt. I've killed a few deer in my days, and absolutely LOVE deer meat. mmmmmm.....

I can't stand groups like PETA. Those people should all be put on an island somewhere and let to live in their own little world.
