Post Mortem
Beyond Death - Earth as we know it is dead. A small group of men continues to fight their way to safety in the anarchy that is left behind.

Me and Gil are taking over this thing as HL isn't here anymore

In continuation of Hogoblin Lords' Forum RPG, which turned out pretty much chaotic and dead, me and Gil will attempt to restart where the old thread died. The team has made it to a rebellion base camp just inside the border of China, where they rendez-vous and have Walter, a mercenary pilot, healed from a crash-landing. Arnold, another man, reaches the rebellion camp a few days later. The dates have changed a bit: The story starts at December, 13, 2017.

Earth is destroyed. Five years after a Chinese nuclear bombing of Japan, setting off a brutal nuclear war that scorched most of our planet. Countries were obliterated before they had really learned of the war. The human population is now a fraction of what it was. Communications are nearly non-existant, and a small group of unlucky men, soldiers and a mercenary find themselves inside the Chinese borders, where unknown danger lurks.

Original story

Rules
Quote: "
* Game passes by every post either of the runners posts.
* Every post should be with the name, time, location in front of it. If events follow eachother directly, no time is needed.
* Every post should describe the environment, location and action. A single line of conversation is ONLY allowed in case of a conversation. Not in combat, walking around, ect.
* Everyone should work towards their objective, be it individual or groupswise. Military people should act as such.
* No one man actions. Keep to the plan. You can introduce small things, as a flanking enemy, but no completely storychanging elements. You cannot post 'we killed everyone and reached the airfield'. Keep things realistic and fun.
* We want everyone to sign up ASAP. The game starts on 13 december. Any later entries will have to wait till after an eventual succesful raid on the airfield."

Walter was walking around the rebellion base camp in the setting sun. It was cold, but his arm was healing well. It had been two weeks since they reached the camp, and both the military men that had saved him and Arnold, another man that reached the camp a few days ago, were faring well. There had been a commotion about radiation, but luckily it turned out noone had recieved a damaging amount of it.

There had been talks of leaving China. Some wanted to head for the capital. But everyone agreed that an airfield was the first target. The rebels disagreed, and made clear there would be no aid nor help from them, and that if anyone betrayed their position, they would suffer.

Nevertheless, the airfield was the general consensus. The rebellions offered me a map, which he had shared with the team. It looked as follows:

They had discussed it over and over again: the team would need to create a plan of action. What is obvious is that most of the area between the branches of the river is open field and heavily guarded.

The ruins could make for a good spot to scout again. Also, the crashed jet fighter is being checked by mercenary forces. They are said to have certain heavy weaponry that might be useful in the airfield raid. Most of our side of the river is densly populated with forest.

The military opposes both mercenary as rebel forces, a shame is that mercenary forces will capture and kill anyone if they cannot pay, and the team has no money. An alliance is no option.

Walter walked around for a few more moments, and sat down on a bench. He chatted with Jeff for a moment, and went to sleep. They would decide on their plan in a few days. The two days before the 13th, they'd have to find out who's in, put together their equipment, and once more discuss their traits and specialties. They'd have to prepare this perfectly. Walter stood up again, waved at the soldiers sitting near the campfire, and went to bed.

Sounds good. I always wanted to start a D&D esque forum RPG, but with simplified rules.

Wouldn't it be better though to install a forum system on your own server to have control and more features?

Brad Kyber | 6:00 Dec. 11 | Base Camp
Current Inventory:
G36 Assault Rifle with 3-power Optical Sight
1 Extra 30rnd Magazine
1 Military-grade Sack with 2 small side pouches(for collecting things)
Luger
24 9mm Parabellum Rounds(Luger Ammo)
Gun Cleaning/Repair Kit

Brad gets up early to start making new ammunition to restock the supplies. He empties all of the ammo that was looted off of the enemies who were killed, so that he can collect the gun powder. Then, using spent cases from weapons most commonly used by the camp members, he fills them with powder, makes bullets from melted scrap metal, and fits them into the old cases. This "remade" ammunition never works as well as if it was brand new. But, that is hard to come across these days.

While at his work, Brad continues to ponder whether he should go or stay at the camp. The injuries that happened before frightened him. After hours of work, he decided he would rather go than stay because there is nothing to do at the camp besides remake ammo...

Walter Leeuw | 8:00AM | Base Camp
Walter woke up, stretched and walked out for a chat with some of the rebels. They had been helpful, but luckily, there had been no problems. The crashing of his fighter might've caused unwanted attention to the area, but it had steered clear of the camp. Walter was happy for that: he could not use any casualties now. They would press for the airfield soon. Real soon. Walter decided to chat with Brad for a moment.

Arnold Page | Base Camp
Arnold set to work drawing a map of the enemy camp, he'd spent several months their as a prisoner and although he had only caught a glimpse of the armoury and barracks, he knew every inch of the rest of the camp.

[img][/img]
1. A large warehouse building (some strange activity)
2. Mess Hall
3. Medical Office
4. Guard Quarters
5. General's Office and Quarters
6. Post Office
7. Radio Office
8. Prisoner Barracks A
9. Prisoner Barracks B
10. Prisoner Showers
11. Roll Call Area
12. Enemy Barracks A
13. Enemy Barracks B
14. Enemy Barracks C
15. Sewage Pipe from the Guard Quarters leading to the east river. There is a tunnel that runs from Prisoner Barrack A to the river through which we made our escape, it's probably been discovered by now though.

I'm not entirely sure what was in the North West section of the camp but there were a lot of vehicle noises coming from there.

If anyone wants to join in the game you could be a character that escaped from the camp with me and is now lost in the jungle, or a character that is still in the camp, or make up your own story if you like.

You forgot to mention that all stuff not directly related to the story should be in italics. Oh, and nice map.

Brian MacIntosh | 08:30 | Base Camp
Brian sat on a log at the edge of camp, polishing his rifle for the billionth time and staring into the dark woods. He was thinking about Walter's map: there were so many enemy at the bridges. He might need to pick up some rope, just in case they had to ford the stream.

Just make it up, but keep to the rules, setting and story. You cannot be a streetdancer going to audition.

Walter Leeuw | Dec, 11 14:00 | Base Camp
Walter wandered across the rebel base camp, as he had the last weeks, and he chatted with Arnold for a moment about the reliability of his map. It had been a pleasant surprise when Arnold drew the map, and it would certainly be good for an eventual approach. He preferred not to attract the attention of mercenaries. They might just have heard his name, or seen his face on television before the war.

He had been convinced the map was accurate as could be, although he was disappointed to find no guard patterns on it. He wasn't surprised, as Arnold had been captured man for quite some time. Also, he wondered about the sewer pipe - it occured to him that the guard house, central of the base, would not be a good entry point for such a small force. And a small force it was: currently, only 3 people had offered their help, three, from the whole team!

Walter had asked the rebels to be armed and found himself lucky, recieving a AK47, a .9 handgun and two grenades. They seemed to be happy with an independent raid on the mercenaries camp, but they made him promise to approach not from the North. He'd have to see how things went. For now, he'd have to keep up cooperating with the rebels.

Jackie Turndale | Dec, 11 14:10 | Base Camp

Current Inventory...
* Backpack
* Holster for the Jehrico and G36
* Gewehr G36 Assault Rifle fitted with a 5x scope
* Jehrico 941 F (Handgun - 20 bullets in a mag) with 2 magazines
* Combat Knife
* 7 Clips for the G36
* Frag grenade

Jackie was stood outside, the fresh brezze of the wind caught his face, it was cold, but the shade from the trees kept the sun from going into his eyes. He thought about what happened a few years ago with his girlfriend, he got angry...but he unclenched his fist and tried to forget the pain.

"Hey Walter, I'll help you with the raid in the sewers. I've had a few years practise with these guns, so if you need any help give me a shout." He smiled at Walter and walked back into his tent.

Walter | 14:20 | Base Camp
Another one in. That makes four of us, Walter thought. It appeared the general idea was to drop in through the sewers, but Walter didn't like the idea. The middle of the camp wouldn't have enough getaway routes to get out might something go wrong - back wouldn't be an option, they'd immediately guard the sewer outage if anyone lived long enough to mention we magically appeared in the middle of the camp - and someone would. There were too many hostiles.

He thought about the prison area. They would be of no use. Letting them escape would not help their effort, and only create more chaos. He searched his mind for the correct word: expendable. They needed to get out of China. The airfield was their goal - but it appeared there was no path except for through patrols, and if they were found it would trigger a enormous manhunt.

He thought about a diversion and approach. There were some options he particularly liked.

Jackie Turndale | Dec, 11 15:10 | Base Camp

After returning from his "Short Rest" Jackie, getting bored quite easily went for a small walk in the woods. He looked around, bullet casings, vegatation..dark and light covered him. He saw a large tree, the branches were perfect for climbing on to, he started to climb but as he did he caught his rags on a sharp branch. Luckily he got his footing on a branch below him. Once he got up the top he could see the camp, He saw Brian polishing his rifle. Once he got bored he climbed back down into the camp and sat down and started practising his catching skills.

Tom Hallford | Dec, 11 19:04 | Base Camp

Tom approached the Base. after his escape from the enemy camp he was tired and had almost no weapons. He had seen others escape, but had not had the chance to escape until recently. He knew this was where the others had come. All he had with him was a Desert Eagle with no ammo left. After getting accepted into the group, he put his name forward for the mission into the enemy camp. He finally got some ammo for his pistol. He had one piece of info to offer the group - the tunnel the others, and later he, had used to escape had not been discovered. It could be used as a place to enter.

is this ok? i hope so!

After going over his sniper rifle for the umpteenth time, Brian finally got off the log and stowed it with the other supplies he had accumulated in the last expedition: a handgun, 3 frag grenades, and lots of extra ammo. Then he jogged over to Walter's tent.
"Hey, Walter, you stilled need guys for that raid? Count me in. I'm as bored as hell stitting in camp."

Read it as a collaborative story
Walter | 21:00 | Base Camp
Walter had helped the new guy in, Tom, was his name. He had looked in pretty bad shape, but he'd manage. The rebels had let him in, although if it hadn't been for Jeff on the lookout, they would've most likely shot the slow moving man in between the trees. Walter nodded. Jeff seemed to be capable as lookout or sniper. He had a good vision. James was an obvious choice as sniper, too. Tom seemed too tired to be a big part of the raid, but if Walter's idea would work out, and the others would accept it, Tom could be a crucial part of the preparations. Walter thought about it. The longer he thought it over, the better it seemed: the jet should disappear.

Brian, Brad and Jackie seemed capable of the dirty work. If Jeff and James would cover them with the rifle, they should be able to make it to the important part of the camp. In his head formed a plan that was certainly possible. Tunnels, sewers, he disliked such entry methods for an obvious reason: it means that if things go wrong, they might block them.

Maybe if he had a few more men - he'd use his alternative plan. For now, the 13th he'd propose what he had thought of the past few days. Walter went to bed.

Walter nodded. James had asked for the method of transportation - Walter wasn't certain, but he had a crazy idea. He preferred that most of them would go by truck, an old, abandoned truck he was told about. It had radioactivity all over it, but the rebels had a single chemsuit and if they could dump the barrels, maybe noone would get a damaging dose. Crossing the river was useless with the promised patrols. The bridge appeared to Walter as the only sane option. He asked for James opinion on the truck.

Walter heard Tom calling him and turned around.
"Tom, how's the hand? I was wondering about something. I have an idea for the raid, and I need you to execute it. I want you to go to the crashed airplane, and set off the remains of it. The rebels scouted it and said there's enough to trigger a beautiful explosion. Okay? Then, I want you and Brian to take the truck, and drive towards us while we begin our assault. We might use the truck to break down any fences or so, later on. But... you should know the truck is contaminated with radiation. I asked a group of rebels to remove the barrels of nuclear stuff from the truck - they should be doing so now - but there's a risk you'll take some damaging radiation from it. On the other side, there's less chance you'll be driving through bullet sprees. So, think about it for a while, okay?"

Walter | 21:00 | Base Camp
It was getting later. The sun had set a few hours ago, and Walter wondered if tomorrows' sunrise would be the last any one of his men would see. It seemed absurd that everything could end now, but there was no option. Everyone was gathered around the campfire.

Walter started the briefing.
"People, I have this in mind. We'll work in four groups, we'll call them Alpha, Beta, Delta and Gamma - military style. Alpha will consist out of Tom and Brian. Beta: Jeff, James, Arnold. Delta: Me. Gamma: Jacky, Brad.

Alpha, at 21:00GMT you'll head for the truck first and make sure it starts correctly. It's been stripped of contaminating materials and should be safe to use for 10-15 minutes. You'll then leave the truck and head for the airplane crash site. At exactly 22:00GMT, use these grenades and cause an explosion. I've heard the fuel tank is rather intact, and the mercenaries haven't cleaned it up yet. They have sent some patrols, so Brian, you keep Tom safe.

In the meanwhile, Beta, at 22:00, make sure you are at the ends of the North bridge. Jeff, take a tree and make sure you have a clear shot at the base. You'll pick off eventual guards when the raid starts and keep us updated on movement. James and Arnold, wait for a patrol to move out to check the explosion and give us a quick signal when they're away.

Gamma, you'll accompany me and cross the river West of this camp at 21:00 and reach the West bridge before 22:00. Keep quiet and wait until the green signal comes from Beta. I'll take the sewer pipe myself, I don't want to risk three men locked up in the base. I'll throw a grenade into the guard house, and while you attack, head for the prisoners cell. We'll release them.

Alpha, you make sure you reach the truck and head for the base. Avoid the large roads and use the sandpaths we found when we reached the base. Get to the target as soon as possible, we might need you to bash down a fence or so. Gamma will move in from the West, Brian will join Jeff in sniping down targets.

Brad, you'll watch for the patrol returning from the aircraft. We don't want an attack from behind.

We don't have walkie talkies and such, so we'll have to do with animal sounds and shouting. The explosion, in any case, will be obvious.

Any ideas or objections?"

"Alright. What are the Rules of Engagement? And when can I commence firing?" questioned Jeff.

We don't have a medic. Shoot when hell breaks loose, Jeff, you wait for the green light when the truck is gone. Gamma, you wait for Jeffs first shot. I'll go as soon as I hear the explosion.

I've had some training, but we don't have any medical equipment besides bandages.

Brian | 21:01 | Base

"Sounds like a plan, Walter. Start the truck, cover Brad while he blows the plane, drive the truck to base by sand paths, and snipe. Brad, you want to drive or shall I?"

"Ok, so that wasn't funny. I don' have any good Christmas jokes."

James A. | 21:03 | Base Camp
"Will do." James walked over to the medical tent to take some bandages and put them in his backpack. He walked up to Walter. "Let's hope that jet of yours lights up the sky." James walked back to his tent.

Walter laughed. "Indeed. Lets hope it explodes with the power of the jet it was."

"Say, Walter, how close do you think the grenades will need to be to detonate the fuel? And will Brad have enough time to get out of the blast radius before they detonate? It would be better if we had some kind of remote explosive, but I guess we have to work with this."

Here's the most recent transcript, I've modified it to fit together as well as I could. It really is excellent writing
