Well, on Wednesday, I'll be going in to get my hand sliced apart to fix a problem known as trigger finger The procedure actually only takes about 15 minutes. It sucks to have to get surgery, but it's better than having a finger that can't properly bend. Basically, the surgeon just cuts open the tendon sheath so that the tendon can properly pass through. It then heals back up slightly larger so tendon doesn't keep catching.

The problem is with my right middle finger, meaning I can't properly flip people off.

Anyway, wish me luck. I may post some pics after the surgery.

Ouchy, sounds a bit painful. Good luck on getting it fixed. I am wondering how it'll look like when it's all done.

That sounds exactly like what I've got. I broke my wrist a few years ago and ever since couldn't bend my left middle finger straight.

Goodluck with the surgery.

I had a friend who had Dupuytren's contracture, which seems similar or worse. Although not being able to give away a good ****-you is rather painful. In any case, he got out of it okay, so you'll be more than fine.

Best of luck.

At least it's only your fingers, and not something more painful...

Ouch. Good luck with the surgery. Do you have the same severity as the videos in that link?

Thanks for the good wishes. The severity isn't as bad as shown in the link there, but it's getting worse each day.

I just got back from the surgery center, and now I'm typing this with a big bandage on my hand. I didn't have it done last Wednesday since it was right after Christmas, and they only do their surgeries on Wednesdays.

Anyway, it should be fixed, but right now my hand is starting to really hurt since the numbing stuff the docotor injected into me is wearing off.

I can't believe all they made me go through just for a simple hand surgery. I had to get into a hospital gown, they put an IV in me and heart monitors. I was conscious through all of it though, so I could talk to the doctor, but I couldn't see what he was doing. They had a sterile sheet between me and him. Apparently, my case was a little different than most, as there was also some sort of cist on the tendon as well as the inflammation, so the actual surgery took about 17 minutes. Anyway, that's my experience so far, and I wouldn't really want to repeat it.

What if the sterile ahd worn off?

Damn these distracting patients!

Probably a good thing.

Glad it went alright hyrichter So far I've had 3 surgery's... in less than two years, all under under a full anaesthetic (they put me to sleep).

The latest ones I've had was late december 2006, and then I had another one around july 2007, both for the same thing which is a cyst I had on my butt And the first operation left a wound that was about 5-6 cm long and pretty deep too... the second one wasn't planned, but they had to clean it up. I still have it this day. It's of course healed a bit, but still big, I seriously hope it's gonna heal fully up soon, it's getting kinda annoying when I sit on a chair as much as I do

Wow, The Nerd. This is the first time I've ever had any sort of surgery, and I've never been put to sleep.

The doc wanted to have me conscious so he could have me move my finger to make sure he did the job right. It took him 3 or 4 times of cutting in there, and then having me move my finger before he got everything that was causing the triggering.

hehe, that doesn't sound very nice I've only ever tried operations where I've been put fully asleep... I could imagine operations where they keep you awake, doesn't sound very nice

It's not that uncommon. I believe Margaret Thatcher had a similar operation - although most people would probably have wanted to sever a different part of her anatomy at the time.

trigger finger?

maybe if you're firing a French crossbow...

I never want to have surgery done, but if I did I would want to be conscious.
