I am making a horror game called Madhouse and I thought i would release a demo of the first level.

Please note: The Hud in the Demo and starting screen is not what will be in the game, I just wipped something up for the demo.

The storyline: You're wealthy, you have a big mansion, and you go on a vacation to the Bahamas. But when you get back to your dream house, it looks as if it was abandoned for decades. You venture into the house and a spirit is actually haunting it.

Screenshots:

More scrennshots to come.

The level is really short and has no combat but it's only the first level and that's just how it is. In the rest of the game there will be combat and enemies besides the one zombie. ( I prefer to call him a spirit.

Tell me how you like it.

Don't really know, but try uploading it to a file hosting site like FileFront

That's the file and it works fine for me.

One last note: That is not the complete level. I fixed the death animation for the "spirit" and made the level slightly different.

That level is just the "Intro" level and is not like the rest of the game. I will post the second level as soon as it is done.

Do you mean I need the whole file that has the game and all the other stuff? If so I will post one really soon. Also, how do I put a bunch of files in one filefront download?

It's o.k... I just finished with the duplicate

Anyway, Filefront is being stupid so I'm just trying random file uploading sites and the one I am currently uploading with is taking forever. I'm pretty confident with this one and it's about 79% done and it's been running for hours. As long as it works.

How big is the file?

Also, the news about the duplicate being done is great! If you need to, I could upload it to my Filefront account for you. (A 45MB file to 2 minutes to upload)

Well, I just got it to upload.

Here is the download link:

http://myfreefilehosting.com/f/5c9727ee4d_92.95MB

(Also in first post)

It takes a little while to download (about 20 minutes on my PC) so when you download go have a coffee break or make some games of your own.

@gunn3r

Well, as I just set it is uploaded at the above site. But the demo was about 14000 kilabytes before I uploaded it but after I uploaded the demo it became a whopping 92 megabytes. I don't know a way to send it to you besides downloading it from the site I gave you.

I just tried the game, and my FPS went to 0 in the corridor with the swinging doors. It's a cool idea, but it made it really frustrating to get around.

Just played the demo, and I'm wondering, how do you get passed the swinging door?

EDIT: Lol nvm, just figured out myself.

Where you get into the park? If so, you're not supposed to. If you look in the corridor you just came from after that little suprise (only suprise in the first level) then a door that was normally locked is now open.

Also, forgot all about checkpoints, I'll add some in the duplicate level.

I scrapped my second level because I didn't like it ( didn't work on it for more than ten minutes because of the first level being deleted) and I made a little mini-boss that you fight in the final room of the last level.

Here are my plans for the game levels:

Intro (Demo)

Mansion Level-A,B, and the first real boss.

Basement of Mansion Level-A,B,C, and second boss.

Sewer Level-Third boss

Abandoned Warehouse Level-A,B,C,D and fourth boss

Final Level-Confidental

You might be thinking " These levels have nothing to do with the storyline!" But they have a little secret way to link together.

@ Coffee Grunt

Your storyline is kinda close but not excatly right.

@ TJR Games

I got your sewer segment and I had so much fun with it that I already started making the only sewer level, and I might make more than one sewer level now.

----Edit----

Here is a screenshot of the sewer level:

I finished with the sewer level but it's just not that great.

I mean, there's not much you could do with a sewer. With a mansion it's all like "open that door and a big scary monster will come out" but in a sewer there's not really a door to open, so I'm just staying with what I have and not going to make more than one level for the sewer.

Looks a little chaotic...

Lol. JK. It looks fairly decent, but the room looks too big to be really scary. Small rooms with twists and turns usually make for better horror games than large rooms.

In the room with all the HL2 zombies? That room is only big because it is a mini-boss. And the picture with the close-up on the spirits face isn't from fighting a real enemy, it assualts you as an image while your walking down a dark corridor.

@ Sps999

I recommend you get a few more blood-splats to add a bit of variety into that HL2 zombie room, the current splats seem rather repetitive..............

I do like the hellish feel of it otherwise,though...

I agree with coffee grunt with the variety thing. It looks really redundant to use only one blood splat. Here are two free blood packs that I found just by searching.

No, it's Zizaco's zombie ( If your talking about the one with the close-up on it's face and the one in the demo) and the ones in that swarm with there yellow lungs showing, that's the HL2 (Half-life 2) zombies. You can get them both at www.fps-files.com.

My second level is radical! Picking up tips from Nickydude's level design forum, more tip's from Nickydude's guide, and Nickydude's horror sound pack it is scaring me and I created the game. Considering that Nickydude was all three of my sources I might just put him as a "Level Designer" in the credits. ( Well, the only one directly from Nickydude was his sounds, the other two were from a member of his forum and an info section of his guide that was distributed by someone else.

Anyway, I am almost done with the second level. Theres some bad news though... My free trial for 3ds max expired. Now I can't model the first boss anymore.

----Edit----

Skeaking of which, does anyone no of a free modeling program that's actually good?

There are a few. There's Blender which is pretty good once you get past the overly complicated GUI. There's Wings3D, which barely has a GUI to speak of, but is good for beginners. I can't think of any others off the top of my head though.

Blender I can't do anything at all (too copmlicated) and Wings 3D could barely do anything. I think I'm gonna get my buy my favorite program (3ds max) but besides that, the only one I could work with is Milkshape.

I use Cinema 4D. 3ds Max looks like it would have been a better choice, but I was more comfortable using C4D, because my school uses it.

I finished my second level and am almost done with the first boss. My first boss model was being stupid (giving the stupid thing a texture) so I am momentarily using rofly's pitcrawler for the time being.

Since I'm in a good mood I'll release the first two levels (and temporary boss) as soon as I am done with the first (temporary) boss.
