Well duh.

Paedophile or not, the chances are that Maddie is dead, my point is that 7 million children are also dead since she was abducted - not that anyone really knows what happend, but you know what I mean.

This actually happend around 10 years ago, a young kid goes missing and the media goes into frenzy, then a few weeks later a coloured kid goes missing and it barely get's a mention. After more than 6 months the story of 1 kid is still front page news, despite everything else that might warrant more public attention - hell it didn't even happen in Britain, so what are we expected to do except dish out disposable sympathy until the next one.

Quote: "At any rate I am prety sure in this situation his family and friends don't want the media attention. The want to be left alone to grieve. But,shoving human compassion and jounalistic integrity aside, they are going to hound these poor people until they don't get any ratings out of them."

That day they had a press conference, I didn't catch most of it and I may have misunderstood what they were doing, but the mom seemed to very distinctly point out who everyone in the family was for the media taking their pictures, I don't know why but that seemed odd to me. Like, the lifestyle they'd gotten accustomed to was helping relieve her grief or something... not sure how to word it.

But I agree, the media needs to back off and let these people be for a while. They showed Ledger's hearse on the news recently and it was completely surrounded by news people... extremely disrespectful when you think about how he always seemed to dodge the media. What I don't get is why this is such a major news story for them. Other celebrities have died in the past few years and haven't gotten remotely this much press coverage.

Indeed, on the James Brown death, the day he died I only saw an advert using an impersonation of him to advertise a company...'yooooou gotta switch!' Kind of strange to see that for the first time on the day he died. But nothing else really happened and I think James Brown is more famous the Heath Ledger.

But to be honest, it comes back to how, like most things today, it's about profit and not human emotions, or even respect. If people can make enough money on a news story they'll make it. Simple as.

News crew at a funeral, very disrespectful if that wasn't in his will. A funeral is a private thing - I'm sure he would have wanted his funeral to be at least his only private thing in life.

All this talk of media makes me want to go and invade the privacy of a tabloid journalist or paparazzi...anybody know where Vanessa Felps lives?

It takes blood and guts to be this cool, but I'm still just a cliche

I saw a picture in a Best Buy in the States with a bin saying R.I.P. Heath and a bunch of his DVDs for sale. Kind of tasteless.

R.I.P Heath.

Jeku, yeah, on the yahoo home page it said movies starring Heath started sailing and lots of DVD's were sold.

Heath was awesome and it sucks that he died, at least The Dark Knight filming finished before he kicked the bucket.

It is tasteless, but smart. Today in the video store I picked up 'A Knight's Tale'. I actually think it's a lame movie, just gratuitous entertainment that's loosely based on reality and Heath's face. However, I considered renting it. Not because I like it, but because of Heath.

Paul Rusesabagina: I am glad that you have shot this footage and that the world will see it. It is the only way we have a chance that people might intervene.
Jack: Yeah and if no one intervenes, is it still a good thing to show?
Paul Rusesabagina: How can they not intervene when they witness such atrocities?
Jack: I think if people see this footage they'll say, "oh my God that's horrible," and then go on eating their dinners.

with that group of church protesters, i heard the morning crew on the radio interviewing one of the main organizers (some woman named sheryl or something like that)

and bascially she was saying that in their opinion heath ledger was promoting homosexuality in brokeback mountain and that he was going to hell. and she continued on like this for a few minutes and nothing that the morning crew said could make her see the other side of the argument (telling her to leave the funeral alone and let his family grieve in peace, etc.) they also had some people call up and talk to her (one of which was gay) and arguments ensued. by the end of it, the morning crew just hung up on her and they were absolutely furious.

also there has been a (2 year old) video that has been released to the media showing heath ledger in a drug filled nightclub and it makes you think that if this video is two years old, that means that the person who had it is using it to cash in on heaths death, otherwise it would have been released earlier.

The morality of some people is horrendous, I've seen the Westboro Baptist church on TV before before Christians and homosexuals and they don't listen, I mean they indoctrinate their with hate songs and protest a funerals - can you really be surprised that they won't show even an ounce of open-mindedness? They're there to cause trouble or have a mental disorder of some kind.

If the former, surely there's got to be a law against what they do (I mean come on, there is seriously something wrong with what they do), if the latter then, please call the mental hospital, these guys need their heads checked out and be put on medication, they're a harm to society.

It's funny how ultra-religious people always seem to forget one of the main points in the bible, forgiveness. Not that in this case there was anything to forgive, as he did nothing wrong, but still

i know, one of the other points that the radio hosts were trying to get through was that god forgives and wants everyone to be happy, and stuff like that. but yet this woman was basically saying that your could be happy and be forgiven as long as you arent gay

another thing: is there anything that these ultra-religious people wont bash?

for example:
- "Heavy metal will send you to hell"
- "games and technology are the work of the devil"
etc.

I don't want a religious debate to happen here.... I do feel sorry for Heath's family, in fact I live with a girl who went to school with him, and knows his family. THAT said, I don't exactly disagree with all the things those Baptists say. I do think they are pretty closed minded and quite...unique...in their attitude to spreading the word, but some of what they say sticks.

ANYWAY that's preeeety much flame bait :p Ooops.

Condolences to Heath's family.

Yah, he was, he lived in Perth for a while, before moving to where all the "real" showbiz happens, the US of A.

@greenlig: Of course, because having a different sexual preference to most people is a mortal sin, and inciting hatred and violence isn't Anyway, that's the last of what I'll say about it as I don't want this thread to be locked, although if anyone wants to discuss this, my e-mail address and msn addy are available

In the same regard, they should go protest Robin Williams and his movies (someone should!, he hasn't been funny in decades!), I mean he played a homosexual in 'The Birdhouse'? - The way I see it they are getting all hot and bothered because it's convenient for them to do it now, in light of Heath's death and all the news coverage etc etc.

Of course, I don't think this is something worth discussing here, because frankly I doubt many of us care too much about what the media, religious groups, the president, gay rights movements, or Dr.Phil have to say about it - the guy died, people should stop using him as a vehicle to get their pointless points across. People are entitled to their opinion, we are entitled to disagree and ignore, there's really nothing that annoys them more than being ignored .

Okay guys, before this turns into a giant flame-fest, I thought I'd give you a little information about Christianity. This isn't a debate, I'm just information to those of you who are not privy to the religion.

Christianity has many (hundreds of?) different denominations, some being more radical than others. There are extremists who protest at funerals, and 99% of other Christians do not agree with this behaviour. The same could be said about a Muslim radical not speaking for the entirety of the Muslim religion.

Anyways, I just thought I'd give a little background. There isn't a central Christian organization that "decrees" something, i.e. "Go protest at Heath Ledger's funeral", and we all have to follow like sheep. It doesn't work that way.

Remember to stick with the AUP here people, and have fun

Thank you Jeku. I would have liked to post something like that as well but didn't think about how to go about doing it.

Yes, Christians disagree with homosexuality. I am one of those, but no, you will not see me and 99% of the others protesting at someones funeral. I have gay relatives, and I don't say anything to them. If thats how they want to live their life, you really can't stop them. It's not something I agree with, but what are you gonna do?

I do hope that Heath's family will get over this, I hope the friggin' media leaves them alone, etc etc.

Lol I just re-read my post and realised I don't agree with what that greenlig character said. I definitely don't agree with the way they do things. That's what lack of sleep will do

Fairplay, I kind of suspected it was too close to the wrong kind of questions, so I'm glad you removed it. I just thought it was a general enough question and hoped it'd slide by safely, but clearly, it wasn't.
