Well, about a month ago I started making a sci-fi game called Hazardous Waste, for the now deceased New Year Level Competition....

After taking a short break, I decided that rather than let it simply die in the bottom of my mind's idea sector, I'd ressurect it, and here it is:

You are Carl Donohue, a newly-recruited security technician at the Izolis experimentation institute, where you must ensure the safety of it's personnel and prevent any possible threats to their lives. Shortly after finishing training and settling down into your office chair, a member of the East-Terran Rebel Alliance sets a bomb off and sabotages the primary fusion core. With the bases power crippled, and the "experiments" being set free, you have only one duty now, get out, before you're a dead man.

Screenie is in the download:
The reception, I'm gonna add NPCs in there later...

...and another screenie, this time it's a service corridor you pass through on your way to your training:

...and the last one for today, a nice little side room, with a scattering of crates and barrels:

10/10, coffee grunt. Too bad about Hazardous Waste, it looked promising. Also, where'd you get those lights? They look pretty neat.

THanks AI,

About the lights, they were on the German forums, a pack called "Big Pack Alfa" if you're refering to the horizontal neon lights in the last screen.....

Hmm.....yeh...

I am considering bumping up the ambience a little and making the light ranges wider....

Looks good, especially the first shot. Lots of edges and corners, good use of media. The others are a little boring. The lighting/brightness looks good to me.

Best.

Looking good so far, interested in seeing where this goes.

Keep up the great work (and love the first screenshot as well).

Thanks Braden....

I'm afraid I've hit a pretty bad rut right now though......to do with the segments I'm using in this, which will hurt this game's development bad, being pretty much the only good looking sci-fi segments that I can afford,(except stock)...

You see, while I was on the German forums, I found this segment pack:http://www.4d-p.de.tl/, and was very happy....

Until someone at IGD.net showed me this: http://www.art.eonworks.com/gallery/texture/texture_gallery_2.html

As you can see, they're identical, so I've stopped development and sent Eonworks an E-Mail to see how this turns out.....

Sorry to any of you who were looking forward to this....

Yup, well I learned my lesson.....

Because, (the following is not intended to be racist, insulting or anything else like that to German's, I have a German friend, He's cool, this is just from my observations of events lately), isn't it funny that people from those forums often are seen as unpopular here, like Red-Devil, and his awful-translator and commercially-under-cutting-packs, I thought it was just him and his MSN infecting gang, but then i find this out.......How deep does this sorta thing run?

Seems I've had alot of bad luck with Copyright lately, first with my site, now with this.....

Next, it'll turn out that my Grandma is a copy of Chuck Noriis's, so I'll have to change that too....

Yeah, it's not the fact that they're german, it just seems that a lot of bad thing come from over there, so I stay away.

I too have many german friends. In fact, I even have a black german friend, so that's like... two birds with one stone. Lol

Ok, I had to revamp my entire level's look because of the aforementioned Copyright problem involving the segments I used.....

Here's a new screen of the Reception area, I think it looks petty funky now....

Hmmmm, for the segments used in the reception area, I think with a slightly different floor, it could look very stylish.

I dunno, the floor looks too similar to the walls as it stands right now, but it's definitally on the right track.

Btw, CG, did you... uh... get anywhere on that..... thing.... I asked you to make?

@Aaagreen

Thanks mate, I'm really trying to make this the best that it can be....

@Plystire
Yeh, I though it looked pretty...bland..I'm still texture-hunting for good sci-fi stuff, I've found a whole bunch of quality stuff, but nothing that really...fits into the scene I'm trying to create....

Also, about that "thing"...having problems getting a certain script to work, I've PM-ed you on IGD.net about it..please reply, and I'll start on that "thing"...just ttrying to get the script's sorted first, I'm not on my FPSC PC right now, but I'll have a showcase thread up in a few days, (if you want me to make a WIP one, that is).....

What copyright did you infringe that you had to redesign everything?
Was that what Gunn3r gave you?

Very nice btw, you're talented at game design.

Tatters, this might sound stupid and against the AUP (also off-topic in Coffee's thread, sorry) but I hope you don't mind me asking: why were you banned? Sorry if this is against the AUP, just wondering.

AI, please don't spam in other peoples threads. You have a perfectly fine Kola one you can post off topic randomness in. Just don't do it in other peoples.

Game looks good cg, i'll leave you some crit with the next screens.

Um... this game needs serious lightmaps.
I suggest you open up setup.ini and change you lightmap quality
to like 150. Then your light would compliment your level design.

Yeh, I'd just installed V1.08....which resets LIGHTMAPQUALITY down to 10.....10! I mean, who'd use that?

It's at 50 now, which is what Wizard of Id recommended if I remember rightly.......

Here's a screenie of the newly redecorated Atrium, and don't worry, I think I've got it right now, so you won't have to bear another one of them...

The first level is about 95% complete...You'll spend a small portion of it on an anti-grav platform system, going through part of the Institute's underbelly......

All i need to do for Level 1 is get some characters in for realism and interaction, and I'm good.....

Well, little happens in level one, no fights and it's just setting the story with a little scenery to look at on the way......

Maybe I'll demo levels 1&2.....

Looks good cg, however, i think perhaps you should change the colour of those chairs to aqua blue, to keep with the look of the rest of the room.

I like the whole HL thing you've got going on there : D

If you want any horror or sci fi music I'll be happy to make some. The stuff I create is more the strange, echoey ambience type of sound. If you want some of that in your games soundtrack, don't hesitate to ask and I'll make some for you.

Yeh, Astek gave me a nod to some better seating over at IGD...It's more Ice looking now, so my "Atrium" has a very cold, and professional feel to it now....

Also, some music like that would be excellent, if it's not too much trouble for you mate......

Hey, CG, I just had an idea.

Try to find some like... royalty free elevator music somewhere and set up some 3D sound looping speakers around the level. I think that'd give a nice lobby feel to the area, don't you?
