Hey all,

I just finished my first decent (in my opinion, anyways) multiplayer arena, and I was hoping I could get some suggestions on what could be improved, as well as what I've done right.

I didn't have a plot or scene in mind, really, I just wanted to test out what I could do with level design before I started making better games. I can upload the file to play, if anybody is interested.

Yea, add more scenery. The lighting looks good but you need a lot more scenery.

Thanks everyone! I added a little more scenery, and I'm changing a few things. Here's one more little addition to the map.

Quick update:

Added more "clutter" entities on the ground, making it a tad more messy looking, and added a few more boxes and barrels for cover, making it less wide-open. As well, I changed the characters to Oleg's 'Scout' characters (thanks for the download, BTW!).

I've added a link to download, if you wanted to check out the level design. Any tips or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Okay, cool. A few side notes:

-Game has no music. Originally, I had some Unreal Tournament music in it, but I couldn't host it on the internet.

-No extra ammo. This game was just a test of my scenery building techniques, so I didn't pay a heap of attention to the extras. You should have enough ammo to land 25 frags, anyways.

-I'll also change the weapons sometime. Just, not now.

Alright, tested the level, and i must say, fantastic! There was (at least on my computer) no lag whatsoever, the layout of entities is very good, not cluttered, but gives a perfect atmosphere while providing the player with good quality cover most of the time. Some areas could use more objects (large ones) to hide behind, which really brings me to my main point of, the arena could probably be a little larger, to gain a more well rounded experience from the player. Although the arena is very detailed and nice looking, it still gives the player some what of a 'trapped' feeling, and doesn't give a lot of room to breath, and if you through 4-6 players in battling one another, it will start to get annoying and repetitive very quickly (no offence). Im a nut shell the level design is great and practically flawless, although you could probably benefit from expanding the arena. Good job and keep up the great work!

Cheers - Braden

Thanks for the advice, Braden! I was sort of thinking that too, I will definately get start expanding it. I should also start pondering a theme eventually...it's bothering me.

Haha yeah, well don't let it bother you too much. I mean a theme would compliment this arena and future ones very well, but you don't want to force it, if you know what i mean. Just keep going with what you've got, and eventually something like a theme will click. So far i would say something along the lines of an industrial area theme would be nice, which could open doors for you to get into levels with say warehoueses and other construction zone and work area scenes. Keep up the good work though!

Cheers, Braden

i tried your level out with some friends and it was fun. The placement of the entities was great. the fact that you could jump to cover was the best help. One thing i say was to add model pack guns with hands.
