I applied to Teesside University(UK) to take a Games Programming Degree. I don't have the required entry qualifications but thought I may as well give it a go, just in case.

Not only did they accept me, they have also awarded me with a subject scholarship worth £3000 (about $6000 US). They are award to "Applicants who demonstrate an excellence in their chosen subject prior to commencing studies".

Apparently, the games on my website are all it takes to get into University!:

I just wanted to SHOUT about it to anyone and everyone!

You got a nice arsenal of games on it and since it's a GAMES programming degree I can understand why you got in. It's cool that you got the scholarship as well This means that the course is free, or do you get the money? (we don't pay for education in Sweden)

Congrats!

Too bad about Roughnecks, that game looks cool from the shots. The demo was unavailable.

I love your bitmap fonts, got the page bookmarked now

I wanted to do that degree a couple of years ago. I might try and go for it in Manchester.

Congratulations on your acceptance and scholarship.

Congrats, well deserved. Still don't know why you'd accept a life-changing degree course in the subject area of your dreams, over a small-time project with me

Mnemonix - there will be no chance of another convention - ever - if you don't step away from the peas.

How can I put this...I LIKE PEAS.

I have invested in many companies who are trying to push vegetable based computer cooling systems. I think peas are the best for the job because of their high surface area.

If there should be another convention I will prepare a detailed presentation analyzing this subject for a number of hours.

Hey thanks, unfortunately I've just made a new one, due to my terrible addiction for making new sigs.
Which is better do you think. This one or the old one?

I also loved the previous one, it was absolutely great! This new one doesn't even come close in terms of coolness.

So the Uni weren't worried at all that you describe yourself as a large black cat on your wesbite?

Congratulations though, I hope you enjoy the course

Nice work mate.

Well deserved, and you'll definitely make the most of what they give you, so it's most certainly not going to waste!

Surely the cat should have got the scholarship... after all you admit on your site that it was the cat that did all the work

Quote: "He is very fond of creating games but his paws make it difficult to access a keyboard. So, instead he uses his huge brain to telepathically link to his 'master' (yeah right!) and instructs him what to write"

Although on a more serious note, congratulations

Thanks guys.
I felt I needed to shout about it

My only concern now is, will I stand out like a sore thumb? I will be twice the age of most of the students and perhaps older than some lecturers.
I think if it were any other subject, I wouldn't have any concerns about age but Game Programming is tradtionally concidered a young mans carreer and whilst I don't think of myself as old, your average 19 year old student certainly will!

(38 btw)

A very good reason not to have a con this year! Or better still keep it quiet and Mnem never need know about it

I've been to courses where there where old and young people mixed and nobody cares as long as you are easy to talk to and work with. Well, that's the case where I've been.

Quite possibly - for a start you'll probably attend lectures.

Congratulations on a well-deserved scholarship and I hope it goes well.

Does this mean you'll start programming in C++ - or do you do that already?

We'll be watching your website more closely now.
