Alright guys, I know I'm new to modeling and the lot but I found something for everyone who's new to making models that I thought was handy for teaching. Great programs for you to check out first.

www.anim8or.com (Free)
www.uvmapper.com (Classic is free)
Then check these tutorials out, very helpful.

I found them helpful, hopefully you will as well.

Yep all great programs. Good source for beginners! You should probably add photo editing software to the list, 2 free ones are Paint.net, and gimp.

Cheers Kosh, I was actually going to. Thinking of doing a tut video of the head and posting it on youtube, that way they have the tut and a video.

Figured I'd add this just because, maybe a small reference for people to see. I made a head.... Yes, I know it sucks but for only having been modeling for an hour I think it's blood not bad so there!
