Generic beat at the start that appears in every single house/trance/crap track - Check
Addition of a different sound or beat every 30 odd secs - Check
You can skip to any section of the track and not notice - Check

/me goes back to listening to music(assuming this is music?) that took skill to write.

I like old electro, like before all this techno stuff. In GTA4 I tend to put on the Electro and Journey radio channels, just to hear Popcorn .

"dushdushdushdushdushdush"
all day.

The only side of electronic music I like is progressive rock with synth solos - like every song by Marillion on their first album. Some of the other stuff sounds pretty good, but gets boring.

This is just bad.

I dont understand this music at all, and how on earth people like it. How can someone listen to music like this, whose main goal is to make headaches. I dont think i'll ever see anyone ever say "I like the melody, it's a beautifull peace of music, probably composed by a very skilled composer" about music like this. What i think people that listen to this generally think is "This is what's popular today, so i have to listen to it to be a part of the group"

I'm with Lucifer on this.

I love popcorn though. But only because it has some faint historic value to it. There are 1 million different versions of that song however, most suck.

Actually, this is quite progressive - the new addition was coming every 15 seconds.

I stopped listening at 2 mins, because my ears started bleeding.

I don't mind this at all. I wouldn't pay for the album, but I could listen to it when programming.

I have about 5 different versions of Amazing Popcorn on my iPod

I don't mind it but I like it in clubs etc. Not for my personal time. But it is a catchy tune.

Its a great tune, it definitely took skill to write it, and if you don't like it, thats fine, but the personal jabs were unnecessary. I don't listen to this because its 'popular' I listen because I think the music is fantastic.

Its great when programming, but my favorite for that is actually drum and bass, nothing like 180bpm to make the code flow from the fingertips.

My gosh, why do these trance songs insist on having an intro thats 5 minutes long, usually consisting of the same repeated melody and drum loop??? I like the non-repetitive house songs, which is basically about 4 songs.

I like some industrial (like Celldweller) and a few tracks by Orbital. That's about it as far as this sorta music goes. I only like listening to it while programming otherwise I need something to sing along with

Yeah, same here. In clubs it's fine, it's part of the atmosphere, but casually? Just say no.

If it didn't take any skill to write, it wouldn't be a problem for you to make an original electro track that sounds as good or better than this, yes?

Well I guess skill is kinda relative, because compared to a real band making good music (that actually requires years of dedication to real instruments) I certainly don't think this is anything And by the way, that track was not in any way original Sounds like any other techno I've heard; Apply a basic beat, and change between some random sounds once in a while. By the way, I don't think this is the case of all electro music, but the kind of track you linked to is well... kinda something you would listen to in a bar/club while being completely smashed, doesn't really have any real content in it.

And to answer you question, no, I couldn't make a track like that because I haven't learned any music programs or whatever (since this music doesn't say anything to me). But I refuse to believe that it requires as much dedication to make such a basic track than learning a real instrument and then afterward find other talented people to write some real music with. I like Orbital too. You should check out DJ Shadow.

As for the song on youtube, it's got potential but needs to change it up a bit more. There's more to that style of music that simply adding a new instrument every 30 seconds. I think that song could have been cut to 3min to reduce the repetitititititiveness.

Daft Punk is always great!

Shouldn't this be in Music and Sound FX?

And about the music, the song is way too repetative.

You just gotta know where to look to find good electronica.

For example:

http://www.last.fm/music/Annie+Gosfield/_/Blue+Serge?autostart

Unfortunately I can't find a full version online, you'll just have to buy it

Or virtualmismo, last train to the universe:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwOudAD8IDo

I apologize for the Harry Potter footage, and the added flwooping, must be some kind of crap remix

Oh ye, and can't forget kraftwerk, autobahn. One of my favorites.
