I saw it yesterday, and I have to say...
Best.
Movie.
Ever.

Okay, maybe not best EVER, but its way up there on the list. Its second only to "Bruce Almighty" IMO. Granted, the humor is a little low-brow, and there are more than a few bathroom jokes. But its still F****** GREAT!
Has anyone else seen it? Discuss!

But yeah, great movie. I would say go see it if it costs you a whole weeks pay. Trust me It'll be worth it.

Looks like a typical hollywood comedy to me, except in a Indian Guru situation, who appears remarkably American.

But hey, a lot of Hollywood movies seem silly to me.

Omega I usually hate movies like kung fu panda(read: pixar) but kung fu panda was actually really funny ^^
And wtf is up with ages 13 and up and ages 4 and up, so that means that people that are 4 years old to 999 years old can watch one movie and only people that are 13 years old to 999 years old can watch another? So? What makes that movie better than the other one, because less people can watch it?
Not bashing or anything, am actually going to go out and see The Love Guru in 2 weeks or so so who knows I might like it, and to be honest, I don't like movies all that much.

I have a 19 year old friend who still watches Bob the Builder and Teletubbies, seriously.

Personally, kids' movies can have a light hearted sense of humour that appeals to adults as well, personally I think Kung Fu panda looks better.

I mean it makes sense to have something in there that makes adults laugh, because most of the time you'll find parents will be taking their kids to watch these things and I'm sure the parents don't want to sit through a movie that bores them. Why do you think so many people over the target age watch Spongebob?

I'd be open minded about the movie and would watch it if recommended, well after I shovel through other movies I don't think I'd ever like - like a lot of Will Ferrel movies.

Honestly, I'd be really worried about your friend. A 19 year old should not enjoy little kinds shows. Now, Spongebob is alright. Half the shows I watch are on Nickleodeon. But Nick Jr. is absolute torure. Sure, kids need educational prgramming, because they're not as smart or as developed us adults. But shows like Blues clues and Dora the explorer act like the kid has a brain tumor.

That's a bit harsh, he can enjoy whatever he likes - sure we may mock him for it, I don't know if he still watches them, I mean he hasn't mentioned it for over a year. At least the Tweenies, Bob the Builder and Teletubbies aren't as bad as some programs. I may mock him for it, but he finds it funny that I like Spongebob and the fact Pokemon has started a craze amongst emos in our town.

However, it doesn't matter what your age (or gender, I watched Powerpuff Girls until I was 15) is, you can enjoy any bloody program you like, just don't tell your friends if you watch something embarrassing.

Ah, well, technically, "Normal" is a paradox in and of itself.
Consider this.

Most people are what we would consider "Weird".
But if the majority of people are "weird", then that makes being "weird" the "normal" thing to do.
Therefore, being wierd is normal and being normal is weird. But that contradicts the very meaning of the words and therefore cannot be.

Really, there is no "Normal" and no "weird" just "Average."

True, but putting a smiley next to a CLEARLY bashing post cannot make it unbashing. It may make it less serious, but no smiley can make "Screw your thing, mine is better!" a non-bashing statement.

This movie looks hideously stupid. The trailer was so... unfunny... I'm scared to think the whole movie is full of comedy like that.

Have you seen a pattern in cookie cutter hollywood movies?

The trailer has that same orchestra theme with the trumpets, and each scene in the trailer is just something like getting hit in the face, beat up, kicked in the youknow, thrown into a wall, and then the music stops and the main character says something really unfunny. It seems to show up in a lot of these kind of movies' trailers.

Seriously? Is hollywood still stuck on the inappropriate jokes? Thats like making 200 movies and telling blond jokes in them. I mean come on, you can only hear so many before either a) you run out of ways to say the same joke or b) it's just not funny anymore. I mean come on, lets see something a bit more tasteful and thought out. I'm tired of it and a lot of my friends (who absolutely love those kinds of movies) are even losing their taste for it to. It's the same old song, just a different tune. Lets see some originality.

It's Hollywood, they look at what sells - Hollywood is a rant I've had before and my flat/house mate will tell you they get worse when I'm drunk. I don't bother with them here, but lets just say I came up with the main plot for a love-comedy in 3 minutes at 3am, whilst drunk with a mate. All I'd have to do is stretch over a script and develop it further. For anything decent, I'd think that stage would need more than 3 minutes, drunk after a night clubbing.

Hollywood love comedies are quite formulaic - a lot of them seem to base themselves off of Jane Austin plots, which tend to be quite similar themselves.

But hey sometimes it works for Hollywood, I mean get a good director and your formulas don't matter because they've shined a talent elsewhere.

Normal comedies like this - I haven't seen enough, I tend to avoid them.

I like comedies such as Airplane and Top Secret (+ any monty python art). Of course any sane individual knows of these classics, but does anyone know of any newer films with similar humour type? Or has the age passed?

I don't think there's anything like that anymore, though if you haven't checked out Spike Milligan yet - yes he pre-dates Python (he's one of the main influences), but if you haven't seen or read his stuff, then you need to. Look out for his book 'Adolf Hitler' and the character 'Sid Price', sorry, I have to boast, he's a relation.

On a side question, does the UK area get the same movies we do (America)? I should really know this, and feel kind of dumb asking, but does our movie culture extend over there? Also, is the humor just as bad? I was thinking that maybe Americas "I want it here and now" mentality gave rise to the quick slapstick humor instead of the thought out, more witty kind of humor. Kind of like fast food is really popular over here, which leads to our obesity problem.

Zohan is different. It's original, very original actually

And it has its own tastefullness. It's actually a movie.

The comedy is good too. It's Adam Sandler, for god's sake.

We get a lot of American movies over here and slapped around our advertisements, but we make our own and I'm patriotic when it comes to British comedy, except sketch shows, I don't think our sketch shows are good. American movie culture is quite big, but there's a lot of non-American talent out there and it's definitely a good idea to check out some world cinema.

I do enjoy comedies, i enjoy Top Secret, Airplane and Hot shots [on occasion] but as it has been said that era as passed and i don't think anyone could pull off a movie like that now.

A) How could you guys not have liked Bruce almighty? It is (In my opinion and the opinion of just about everyone I know) the single greatest comedy made in the last decade or so, and Jim Carrey is the greatest (comedy) actor to ever live.
B) I like Jack black, I just like Mike Myers better.

Bruce Almighty was one of the worst comedies to come out in the last decade or so Jim Carrey is past his prime. In my opinion he does a much better job in more dramatic roles like The Truman Show or Eternal Sunshine.
