I dunno but I've seen pics of Lee's(?) mom stuffing envelopes with FPSCx10 DVDs. So they must not be toooo big.

all tgc staff work at home, like most small companies, as it saves costs, and iirc the few tgc staff live quite spread out.

@Punk13 - Your sentences are structured in an annoying way. Do you think you could cut out the short form and random capitalization?

I initially thought of TGC as a big company, probably because of the flashy website and all of the different things sold here. But yeah, it's a small company.

Having been to visit Rick and Lee at RockVille, my description would be "subtle, successful and inspirational".

That doesn't actually say anything about the physical appearance, but I think it's a great analysis.

There was a very successful convention in the US when DBPro was first released, organized by the guy who made the standard IDE. For another US convo to happen, it would need someone who's prepared to organize it. You need an American version of Batvink really.

To say most users probably buy only a few products in their entire time on the forum and some don't buy directly from tgc it's easy to understand how any costs that can be cut are, but that would be the same with most companies. Perhaps now the FPSC store is up and running their will be more people spending money throughout their use of the product and not just for the initial purchase.

Somebody tried organising a US convention last year I think, possibly the year before but it never really gets past deciding where to have it. Somebody will come along and say "I'm happy to organise a convention, it would be 'here' " and then somebody else will pop up and say "ooh ooh, but it would be better 'here'. "

I guess the US is just a lot more spread out than jolly old England.

Quote: "You need an American version of Batvink really."

Or good old Nick, who got the first few unofficial conventions sorted.

EDIT:: Pic of Lee's office attached.

Looking at that image, it seems Lee's kidnapped some of Milk Paton's relatives, this might explain why we haven't seen Drew - perhaps Lee is holding them for a randsom? I wonder what for?

He's probably taken on more of a dictatorial role now, barking orders at his coding harem between playing pikmin and combing the toast crumbs from his big, bushy beard*. Now that's a real man.

*Which is photoshopped out of all photographs of him lest he be recognised as the devious scallywag that he is.

Soapy, how did you get a picture of my basement cell at MISoft? I didn't think we allowed cameras in there.

Well, since then, they took my GameCube away I miss it.

Well, i mean i dont know why people would fight over the location, Just put the convention in the center of the us (not literally) But here in the USA California is the Biggest, Richest, Most starfilled place of all.

If you look at it California is the 7th Richest place in America. And Here in the states you can get an Airplane ticket for $100 anywhere you want to go in the states.

Just something to think about

Since there are a lot of eastern, western, and even Canadian people in the Americas on this forum, it would be best to pick somewhere in the centre of the country. I could be wrong. I could drive to California in less than a day from where I live, but then there are many people from New York.

See, this is the problem with stateside conventions.

Michael S. If you are hosting it, you can decide where it is. Pick a time, place, and duration and set it in stone or else it's not gonna work out. Get a confirmed guest list and decide if it's worth it or not, then make some reservations.

maybe there could be a dual-convention in the US? like, one in California and the other in New York, at the same time. then, setup a system of webcams and mics and stuff so that people can talk and interact with each other from across the US and it feels like 1 total convention. might be a little too much work, i'm not sure, but it would be pretty neat if done correctly

and if this turns out to actually be easy to setup, we could do a 3-way convention between West Coast, East Coast, and the UK

Put it in Minnesota, not only because I live there, but also because its centrally located in the middle of North America.

Write the software in DBP and that would be pretty cool. Actually come to think of it would be pretty simple to adapt my Daibotron code... nah, don't have the time...

Cheers

I am 99% probably lying in bed right now... so don't blame me for crappy typing

And when you think about it, the extreme number of Swedish people on this forum almost forces you to hold one in Sweden as well, you know, all 4 of us. And the flying spaghetti monster lives in Sweden if you didn't know, come meet it!

Honestly, it shouldn't matter as to if you work from your basement or work in a small building on game development. The only difference would be quicker access to game assests if the company was in a small office building. Right now I am working toward making a commercial game and when I publish my company I will publish it for the city I live in. Where as there are only 2 members of the company in the city/ area. The rest are still employees of the studio just not close in distance.

I think TGC def pulls off it's small company with the way it manages and creates things.

Best,

Beasetgargoyle
