I'm pretty openly a geek, though I don't cosplay or anything (shudders). I get a good deal of respect because my the many skills I have that aren't that common even. I don't have any trouble with girls because of it, in fact it ends up attracting the girls that you might stay with for more that a week or month. More I'm very shy around new people, so even though I have quite a number of friends who are girls I've only ever had on "girlfriend".

Then again, I'm not what you might call a "hardcore" geek. I also have the whole artsy side, which is a whole other person type. Now if only I wasn't as shy... I must go to more parties.

xD I'm the same way, with the whole saying whatever I want. I'm dangerously shameless at times. It's that generally overused but very true quote, "The people who care don't matter, and the people who matter don't care". I don't like to classify anyone. I'd rather get to know them for who they actually are. All the labeling that goes on is just ridiculous.

Same here

I've never had a problem with it at school - ironically it's turned into a rather good thing where I've moved. Virtually nobody else in my school has the educational background or technology skills, so it gives me a chance to shine. It's kind of annoying when everyone marvels over how fast I type though

I've never had a problem with girls, and I have many female friends. No girlfriend though (yet, lol).

I prefer to class myself as a nerd. There is all that buisness where people class geeks as obsessive people with no social life, and nerds as intelligent people with a social life.

I know a geek who fits that description and i am no where near like him. I LOVE computers, yet i took a public services course which is basically all outside, I like startrek, stargate, star wa... basically everything with star in it, yet i still hang with margianally cool friends. We all create games, model (objects that is ) or texture, so i dont think we fit the geek category of blobbing on the sofa masturbating over dianna troy 24/7 and nothing else. i dunno, i just see them as two categorys, and would rather not class myself as anything. I just think this class system of chav, emo, goth, nerd, geek, jock etc. is a bit weird? But yeh, if anyone is a classing-troll i would rather be a nerd than geek.

Jeeze. As if 10 = 9.999... wasn't bad enough. Now I have to figure out if I'm a geek or a nerd or neither.
These dictionary definitions... who writes them anyway. Probably some geek or nerd or both. Imagine having a career writing dictionaries. I'd like to take a gander at that. Throw in a few of my own nonsensical defintions.

I laugh how the it support at some PC shop is called the "Geek Squad" its almost an affectionate term nowadays.

Programming is the only geeky thing I do so I don't really consider myself a geek.

but really who cares? I don't.
Stop trying to label me man lol

It is far better to complete a 10 line program than to start a 10,000 line program.

Not necesarily, I used definition number 2 to define myself as a geek - I wouldn't call myself dislikable, unless you guys aren't telling me something...

Though I probably might class myself as number 3 as well, I mean I bite the heads off of small children (as opposed to chickens)

Basically, as I see it...

Nerd:
Life = Conputer.
Social Life = no such thing.

Geek:
Life = Computer, Video Games, other geeky things, whatever they enjoy.
Social Life = yes, but doesn't care about the popularity game as much.

Loser:
Life = whatever it takes to be popular in the eyes of others.
Social Life = constantly trying to be friends with anyone who is popular, abandoning friends for not being popular, being someone else so you get along with the popular, hiding your geeky or nerdyness


I think that sums up everyone, and well it's safe to say I'm proud to be a geek.

Good question, I think the association of psychiatrists shut it down because one of the founders was not psychologically stable to run one - it'd be like Charles Manson owning a prison I think they said. I can't really remember - my alter-ego called 'Logic' has a better memory of it, however his TGC account got banned.
