Okay, I've been away a while and I sure that none of you missed me, I hope I've got this in the right place (It isn't linked to game making)

This is just a bit of fun for the Metalheads here and I was just interested in people's opinions. I will give a list of Metal singers and their bands for which people will vote.

I think this list basically covers all the biggest and best acts that are still around (With the exception of Pantera, R.I.P Dimebag)

The rules are simple:

You get one vote

There will be no arguing over which band is better

Please don't request that somebody is added, unless the
person happens to be really freaking important and I've forgotten them

Okay then, here are your choices

James Hetfield - Metallica

David Lee Roth - Van Halen

Dave Mustaine - Megadeth

Chuck Billy - Testament

Rob Halford - Judas Priest

Ozzy Osbourne - Black Sabbath

Bruce Dickenson - Iron Maiden

Max Cavalera - Sepultura/Soulfly

Tom Araya - Slayer

Phil Anselmo - Pantera

Commence voting!

Current Votes:

James Hetfield - 2
David Lee Roth - 2
Dave Mustaine - 0
Chuck Billy - 0
Rob Halford - 1
Ozzy Osbourne - 0
Bruce Dickenson - 4
Max Cavalera - 1
Phil Anselmo - 1

I'd probably suggest that there are better vocalists out there in Metal, however I'll stick to your list as this is just a bit of fun.

Out of those I have only seen 2 of them live and that's Metallica and Soulfly, I've seen Soulfly twice, the first time, flipping brilliant, last time, which only a couple of weeks ago they didn't put on a great show.

But for the sake of argument, I'm going to say: Max Cavalera

If I could pick one not on the list, I might go for:

Tomas Lindberg - At the Gates

A band influential for the gothenburg sound used by bands today (like In Flames and Dark Tranquility) - they're no longer together (except this year they've been doing a come back tour over Europe, which I managed to catch their only UK gig) and members still have a music career in bands like Soilwork and The Haunted (currently listening).

I'd have to say: Dolly Parton

And what's with all the pointless threads lately?

Agreed with Ben, Dolly Parton has done some good songs. Also this thread has little to do with geek culture :/.

Dunno - gets conversations rolling? But it's not geeky, so I guess not welcome?

Though, Dolly Parton...that'd be really interesting to see.

as much as I like metallica, I would have to choose Bruce Dickinson as my choice.

Should Tarja Turunen be on there (ex-nightwish vocalist)?

Ohh yes, Tarja, I don't know if you'd class her as a metal vocalist, though she was in a metal band (and still does some metal with her new work in 'The Tarjas') Saw Nightwish a few weeks ago with their new singer - she's great for the stuff they got on their new album, but watching her sing all the old songs that Tarja used to sing, good, but her voice compares nothing to Tarja's in my opinion.

is blasphemy. She doesn't have the right voice for Tarja's lyrics. I looked up the Tarja/Anette Nemo duet on youtube and I felt physical pain when Anette started on it. Don't get me wrong, I liked Dark Passion Play, but Anette singing Tarja's lyrics is just...wrong.

As for the voting aspect of this thread, I withhold mine. Those are good bands listed, but not stuff that I'm heavily into. Most of those are just stuff I go to when I'm feeling musically bored and want to revisit

Sorry you had Brucie on there.
Edit: I vote for Bruce Dickinson, mainly because he is 50 and he still rocks the stage!

I would choose either Phil Anselmo or James Hetfield. I am personally in to the newer metal so I would have say I wish that Corey Taylor of Slipknot or Greg Puciato of Dillenger Escape Plan was on the list. But out of the list James and Phil are the best.

It is not blasphemy to sing some of the songs Tarja used to sing. They were never Tarja's songs, they were nightwish and she does sing some of them quite well, if a little bit differently.

That said, I dont think this thread should be used for a debate of this sort, because it will quickly take over the thread.

Oh my god this is so hard. It's between Mr.Hetfield and Mr.Halford. However Hetfield's voice isn't as good as it used to be. Halford's is still awesome though.

So yeah my choice is Rob Halford.

I don't deny that she sings them quite well, she does and it was bloody amazing to watch her live with the band, but Tarja's voice suited the music better (and IMO is a singer I prefer) and the reason it suited the music better is because the music was written for her voice. Or at least that's how I see it. Dark Passion Play of course is a different story because the music was written with the new singer - Tarja probably couldn't make Dark Passion Play sound as good as it does for that reason. And I think it's a positive thing that Tarja's gone off an done her own thing - it means we get 2 awesome bands instead of 1 (and a back catalogue of some great Tarja-sung songs).

Have to go with Bruce Dickenson here, though comparing singers to growlers is a little tough. If we were going with newer bands also though I'd say David Draiman.

People vote for who they prefer, if people likee growlers they can vote for for them (Chuck, Max, Phil (towards the end)) or if they prefer those who sing they can vote for them (James, David, Dave, Rob, Ozzy, Bruce)

I simply chose those who are generally believed to be the most popular (according to many metal forums), it just so happens that there are more singers than screamers.

I apologise if the list is not up to scratch.

AH who cares about Dio? He's short, thus insignificant.

I think that Evil Star pick some really good metal singer/screamers

Here are Revolver Magazine's(kinda like UK's Kerrang) 37 greatest frontmen in metal(but some aren't really metal at all). Any of these could have been good decisions I guess. Just all of what you are into.

In no particular order:

Phil Anselmo(Pantera/Down)
Randy Blithe(Lamb of God)
Glenn Danzig(Misfits/Danzig)
Johnathan Davis(Korn)
Zack De La Rocha(RATM)
King Diamond
Bruce Dickinson(Iron Maiden)
Ronnie James Dio(Dio/Black Sabbath)
Davey Havok(AFI)
James Hetfield(Metallica)
Angela Gossow(Arch Enemy)
Al Jourgensen(Ministry)
Maynard James Keenan(Tool/Pusifer)
Marilyn Manson
Mike Patton(Faith No More/Mr. Bungle)
Greg Puciato(Dillenger Escape Plan)
Axl Rose(GNR)
Ozzy Osbourne(Black Sabbath)
Bon Scott(AC/DC)
M. Shadows(Avenged Sevenfold)
Corey Taylor(Slipknot/Stone Sour)
Chuck Schuldiner(Death)
Devin Townsend(Strapping Young Lad)

But anyway your list is pretty good Evil Star. You just should of added a bigger variety I guess is what I am trying to get at

Well at least this list has Dio... but how can it have freakin' Zach De La Rocha and not Rob Halford? Hell I wouldn't even consider Rage Against the Machine metal (though they're a great band).
