It feels like FPSCX10 doesn´t get the attention it deserves, so with the hope that X10 will get more custom media etc in the future I have started this contest:

FPSCX10 - Media contest #1

Description:
In this contest all media is allowed: weapons, characters, chairs, segments, sounds...
Everything wich takes advantage of X10 and its featureas, or at least works in X10
Since its easier to create a box than a fuly animated character we have different categories.

Rules:
-You may not submit anything you have released before or shown in any way.
-The work must be your own, you can not submit anything you dont have created.
Even if you got permission to use, sell, restribute etc
-You may submit unlimited amount of models in all categories, but you can only win in maximum 2 chategories.
-The media should be aviable for everyone for at least non-commercial use.

Judgement:
Your media will get judged on these criterias:

Static entities: (boxes, chairs, cars etc)
-Works without any modifiaction in X10
-Use of pollies
-Use of UV space
-Overall look
-Texture quality (working shadermaps will get you bonuspoints)
-Originallity

Characters:
(Since its more work behind characters we will judge gently )
-Works without any modifications in X10
-Use of pollies
-Use of UV space
-Overall look
-Texture quality (working shadermaps will get you bonuspoints)
-The character is able to use the darkai.fpi script
-The character is able to use the darkdestroy.fpi script
-Originality

Segments:
-Works without any modifiaction in X10
-Use of pollies
-Overall look
-Texture quality (working shadermaps will get you bonuspoints)
-Originallity

Weapons:
(Since its more work behind weapons we will judge gently )
-Works without any modifications in X10
-Use of pollies
-Use of UV space
-Overall look
-Texture quality (working shadermaps will get you bonuspoints)
-Originality

Effects:
(Everything wich really takes advantage of the power of X10, like reliefmapping, softparticles etc)
-Works without any modifications in X10
-Kindness to fps (frames per second)
-Coolness
-Overall look
-Originality

Sound/music etc:
(Hint hint: FPSCX10 uses a really good "3D Sounds", wich means that the sound fades and increases realisticly when getting closer or moving away )
-Works without any modifications in X10
-Soundquality
-Overall sound
-Originality

Scripting:
-Works without any modifications in X10
-Use of FPSCX10 featureas
-Overall idea
-Originality

So we have 7 categories, I hope you find something for you.

Judges:

Hey BVG,

I would suggest this should be posted on The FPSC X10 Community forum as users don't check the FPSC X10 TGC forums any more they tend to look at the community instead. We have some very capable artists there now.

But Good Luck if i get time i may enter something.

Done that now.

As im in a very very kind mood today i will offer all my models in the TGC store (excluding the music tracks and free items of course). Also i offer to judge let me know what you think of the idea also i might have a few more prizes to add once they are done.

Hope that sounds good i guess i cant enter if i do that. Shae as well as i have made a character that works 100% in FPSC X10 with ragdoll, Dark AI and everything. Dark AI had a few bugs with another character i was making.

Great! I will add the prize, should it be for every category?
And of course you can enter as a judge, you just cant judge the category you are competing in.

right i will see what i can whip up. Also you can set the prize for as many categories as you wish. There will be another prize as well soon deciding what it should be have cut it down to a possible 3 now. Will say for certain tomorrow.

Note the submitting form thing should be something like this:

to allow for the download link otherwise where do they put it you know how people get confused

BVG, do we have to submit the actual media or can we submit pictures? (or else make it only available to the judges?) I have a lot of good-looking media worth submitting, but I'm not too hot on the idea of releasing it to the general public...Also, can we submit something we've made before the start of the competition?

Also, do characters have to be animated, or can they be posed in the form of a static entity? (I've made some characters, but they're un-animated, so they don't move at all). And, what category do decals go under?

@The next
Sorry, I cant be online 24/7 Last time I used my PDA.

@Jingle Fett
If you really really dont want to submit your entry, then post a picture of it together with the form in the first post. Then send me the files so me and the judges can judge. Of course we will not use it in any way.

You can submit anythig wich you havent exposed to the public before, or in any other way gotten C&C on it (except for parents and such of course )

If you submit an animated character that will give you a bigger chance to get higher scores. But of course, if the character is ment to be unanimated then thats fine.

Decals would go under Effects

@First Company Veteran
Great!
See this as a way to practice

Do we submit the form here, or to you by email?

On the relief mapping part can we just enter a model from a model pack with the new relief map on it or does it has to be custom made models(I haven't bought character shop yet for animating)... But if I can get the money in time I'm entering a NPC entity, segment, and just a static entity(prop)

The comp isnt over yet

If you have a custom model it will surely give you more point, but if you submit a retexture (notice, adding someone elses work isnt allowed, wich means that you cant submit an existing texture from any model).

This may seem a bit off topic, but I'd like to join, how exactly do you make segments/entities/weapons/etc.?
I've been wondering this a lot and it has prevented me from joining any contests and it's making me really frustrated...

If there's tools that make these, could you only tell me the free ones?

Nothing is too hard as long as you can achieve it (*Note* This does not apply to programmers).

If anything I say in this post is offending, it is all unintentional.

@ PW Productions manager
Have you heard of modeling? There are programs that allow you to create computer 3d models and export them for multiple uses. However, they are difficult to use. One commonly mentioned in nearly every thread where someone asks a question like this, a free program called milkshape 3d is mentioned.

@ BIG Viking Games
How long will this contest last?

Don't ask about my forum name. LONG story.

There are lots of them, try searching the forum.
And as lmpsrus said, Milkshape 3d.

You don't need to be able to model in order to make custom segments. You just need to be able to make custom textures and then replace them...
_ _ _

I don't know if I'll be able to enter...I have my completed segment, but it uses a lot of parts and textures and I don't have the time to organize it all into a shareable package...I can take/send as many screenshots as needed from every angle and lighting conditon, but unless that's good enough, I won't be able to enter...I posted a screenshot of it in the community forum...

@lampsrus

I accept segments made with Firma (wich works with X10) as long as you made the texture and dont supply the mesh (Firma uses the stock meshes).

@Jingle Fett
Screenshots would work, but you will get higher points if you actually supply something more than screenshots.

I have found some internet! (the guys at the community forum know what I'm talking about)

Anyways, my main entry:

Description: Bulkhead Corridor
Name of creator: Jingle Fett

Category: Segments

Commercial or non-commercial use: N/A (Screenshot. Can provide more shots and at different angles once my internet problem is fixed. Oh well, whatever...)

Additional notes:
My very first 100% custom segment. All textures are 1024x1024. This segment uses a grand total of 4 different textures plus the normal and specular maps that go with them and several different meshes, all custom made. Excluding the floor model, it uses 4 different meshes that were then reused for the walls and ceiling and pipes and were arranged to make the segment you see here. The walls look like they were welded, the floor is missing some paint and is a little rusty, the galvanized metal shines, the pipes look gritty. Oh, and I threw in some custom fluorescent lights for good measure. This segment was a bit hard to make because all the models had to be made in a way so that they'd fit perfectly, which is a bit of a pain in the ass But in the end it came together nicely...

I have other possible entries, but this one is one of the ones I like best...
