Hey there! I like the lighting, up until the total darkness for the outside area. could you a brighter colour, such as hex code : 6a4f51 A bluish gray, or, 7a7a7a, a bright gray for the lamps/lights. Love it, can't wait for the full. Hey, although im doing stuff already, mind if im a beta tester to? or are you full of them.

You are using excellent entities, but I still dont like your lighting. Sorry.

Here is some screenshots from dead space i think you should look at...

Green light, and what it can do

Blue light, and what it can do...

Fog color, and brown lighting

Really, for the first I just get a logo for TechIMO, and for the second I get a picture that says this image is hotlinked from thesixthaxis.com

Weird.

Hello agian mates. First off.

Quote: "Hey, although im doing stuff already, mind if im a beta tester to"

If your computer is strong enough, then I would be glad to have you as a beta tester.

Quote: "You are using excellent entities, but I still dont like your lighting. Sorry."

No need to say sorry Apple Slicer. I didn't put in much effort with the lighting, so I am not suprised someone cried foul. No worries though. These next screenshots are implementing some better lighting.

Quote: "But you're not gonna change the outdoor area what is sunny, that's in the second page, to rainy"

No worries MetalDevil. There will be plenty of levels with sun in them.

Thanks guys! You know those screenshots I promised, well here they are. As you can see, I have updated the lighting a bit. Instead of the default white lights, I changed them to a green-blue mix, and lowered their range a bit. Then I lowered the ambience to five, eliminated natural light sources and now it looks a bit more like those Dead Space screenshots you took. Also, I changed it to a rainy weather set, so as to give the two levels a sense of unity. Last thing, I hope that I captured the feel of being indoors on a rainy day, that hopeless, depresing feel. I wanted it to be clear to the player that everything is going wrong, and the rain increases that sense. I should know; I live in the Great Northwest

Anyways, here are the screenshots.

C&C is welcome.

Quote: "Ok, I e-mailed you some media."

Thanks for the music. It fits very nicely with a variety of scenes and battles I,m planing. I will throw an Email your way for some specific music, but the stuff you sent already is fantastic.

Quote: "This game is looking awesome! The BEST looking sci-fi so far. PERIOD!"

Period? You mean with FPSC right? Actually, due to the fact that I am using X10, it gives me a slight advantage over games made with X9. Either way though, Apple slicer has made some awsome Scifi games wih X9, and Metal Devil, your Ship Invaders game looks very nice. No worries though. I expect to have pushed X10 above and beyond by the time this game is done.

Quote: "Man I have to ask, what do you use to retexture?"

I use a picture editor called Paint.Net. You can find it here

I also use textures from http://www.cgtextures.com/

I would argue that Paint.net and GIMP are nearly on the same boat. But that's just me.
Game is looking good! But no offense, it looks like it is being made with x9 not x10, because of the graphics, it looks more x9 style.

Agreed, but you wouldn't see floor and wall segments like those in x9 no matter how great of an artist the person is... Just my point of view.

What? Take an engine with superior graphics, and make it look inferior?

X9 looks inferior to X10...

Sorry, I didn't mean the game, this looks really sweet...

I'm just saying, considering he's using X10, and it denies most of us the ability to play it, we should at least get to look at the screens with some of those lovely X10 effects...

No offense taken mate I am in the process of creating Normal maps, for the walls, but I can't get them to work. Coach Shogun, if I was to send you the normal maps, and the FPE script for the segment, do you suppose that you could get it working?

Quote: "we should at least get to look at the screens with some of those lovely X10 effects..."

Water, bloom, widow refraction, ect. have a negative effect on the framerate, therefore I am restraining the urge to use them...for now

Sure, but remember that you also need specular maps for the effects to work properly.

Not really, normal mapping and specular adds much more detail than bloom...

Bloom only looks good when you can barely notice it anyway...

I'm sorry for the lack of updates. Rest assured that the team and I have been working hard on the demo. There are still a few things on the to do list before I can realese it with a clear mind. This includes the following: New HUDs, New weapon textures, and weapons rigged with hands.

As for Beta Testers, I need 2 more. Any volunteers? Metaldevil I will send you a copy of the Beta Demo via Email.

FPSC Noob, I greatly appreciate the time and effort you have spent working on this project. I can send you a beta as well, if you are interested.

Hello again. You know how I said I the Team and I have been working hard on a demo. Well, we've gotten the demo level all done, but I don't think that's enough. As of yesterday, I have begun a demo for the newly announced standoff mode (see first post). It's a mixture between Horde Mode on Gears of War 2 and Nazi Zombies on CoD 5. I have attached 3 screenshots of this new mode's map. I have also attached a low quality video of about 2 minutes of gameplay. The video's sound goes way off sync, so do yourself a favor and mute it. Also, I m proud to add Airslide to the credits, because of his AI system I am using for this Mode.

Two images of the outside.

One of the starting room. As the levels go on, blast holes appear in the walls.

The video makes it look like a bit of a shambles. Seeing as the player only seems to have that tiny little room to hold off in. You should make it slightly bigger and add a second level so the player has plently of places to hide.

Perhaps also find a way to have the enemies find the player instead of the other way around.

Sorry I haven't posted lately, so I'll give you guys an update. DyVo, the team's modeler, has been hard at work on the Terran Galactic Military weapons. He is almost done with the pistol, so I am looking for someone to rig and animate it. Anyways, here's the screenshot.

hockeykid: Thanks for the assistance. Just make sure your computer can run X10.

Butt monkey: Yep, I'm currently working on something like that, but the path-finding AI is as dumb as a stump for right now, so I have to work around that.

Coach Shogun 20: Yeah, I got your Email but the wall textures are not working with me right now. They must have a grudge on me or something.

Another feature that I am adding is the laser pointer to all the weapons. It can be turned on by pressing L, and runs out of battery in 10 seconds, making you wait 1 second for it to recharge.

Nice work, always great to see upcoming X10 games!

Some of my suggestions:
CoffeeGrunt is pretty much dead on. Most of the people who can play X10 have high-end rigs anyways so you may as well take advantage of that power. At the very least, add a normal and specular map to EVERYTHING. Believe me, it will do wonders to your game. Right now, don't worry about optimizing to get the best framerate, just focus on getting a good-looking game.
Take Bioshock or HL2 for example. The reason everything looks so good is simple: everything has a normal and specular map.

If you need help getting normal and specular maps working, here's the fast walkthrough:
-put the textures in the same folder as the .fpe
-in the .fpe where you specify the texture, it needs to have a specific naming format: name_D.dds. Texture needs to be .dds (apparently they no longer need to have the .tga extension)
-That's pretty much it, X10 will automatically pick up the normal and spec map as long as they're named name_N.dds and name_S.dds. They have to have the same name as name_D (except for the _N and _S of course)
-Also, make sure you apply a black layer mask to the specular map, otherwise it will glow in the dark and the normal mapping won't be visible.

Sorry that it's been a while. Had to reformat my hard drive. Lost Fruity Loops... so pissed off. Now I have to find and get it, yet again... Ughh. FML. Anyways, back on track:

Yes, the map is a bit too small, perhaps make it a tad larger. I'll try and be of assistance, computer can't run X10 though, sorry man.
