I would be surprised if the answers no.

And yep, you an Errant have dominated most of the Tgc trends.

Monoploy is fun, up till the point you win the game.

A get contacted about 3 times a year from Torque community people for various jobs. Or sometimes they purchase modified versions of my model packs along with the source max files. Some people here know that I had a 3 month stint on a prospective PS3 network game, for a promotion called "Get In the Game", that sadly, Sony did not pursue. And I always keep busy with TGC, either through models packs or other stuff.

I've been doing 3D for over 6 years now, and at this point, I'll confidently put my expertise and skillset up against just about anyone's. The great thing about doing freelance is that I have a very wide range of skills: modeling, texturing, and animation to realtime shaders. Rather than some 22 year old schmuck working for EA making environment props all day. Freelance has been a great second job for me (I'm a pharmacist by day).

No need for that at all Ocho. Like I said, I was just feeling a little grumpy earlier today, the wording in your post caught me the wrong way, and I got defensive.

I know that my stuff is not beyond criticism. It's just frustrating, because I'm a perfectionist myself, and I know I have to draw the line at some point on every model I make and move on to the next thing.

No hard feelings.

I am looking very much forward to that SF-characters pack you mentioned earlier in this thread @bond1. You think it'll be in range for this summer?

Yeah probably, I'd like to make bio-mechanical characters, really creepy stuff like Doom and Quake inspired, and maybe some non-human creatures. So I'm sure it'll need to be ESRB rated too (sigh). But I'm itching to get into a different genre other than zombies/horror.

That sounds damn good! I would love to see more sci-fi stuff. I think Sci-fi weapons need to be addressed as well, but I would understand if you just went for characters.

ESRB
my advice to parents is take about 5 years off the rating

Anyways, some scifi would be great, It could help stop people spewing out endless horror games perhaps?

(not to mention biomechanics is a key factor of my game ATM)

i agree with geek, everybody is making the same horror games, with always the same lightning, it's getting annoying.

and damm, if TGC wants to let all the packs be rated, why dont they pay for it

Since AI in FPSC (or any game engine) is not perfect it would actually be great to have some non-human sci-fi characters in a Model Pack. Everyone knows how a human behaves and the poor AI isn't making a good impression a good deal of the time. It is easier to accept strange movement and behavior from a robot or alien.

Legion from Mass Effect 2 is quite cool. So is the Arch Vile from Doom and Sonny from I robot. Crazy cuberpunk masterminds are always (1 2 3) fun too

The future. Looking forward to it

Bond, you should have a donate button for yourself...Just for paying for the ESRB costs. I'm sure you'd get plenty of donations. And that way, you would get what you deserve; no less.

Perhaps have a Donations button somewhere in your sig or on your site? I'm sure there would be a few people who'd like to thank you for all you're doing to keep FPSC moving forward.

Yes! Like that! Or what Hockeykid has for Fenix Mod. It may not cover the entire cost of ESRB fees, but it'll help.

Thanks for the ideas Shadowtroid, saved those pics for future reference. And stuff like that combined with alien creepy crawlies would probably not require a rating from ESRB.

On a side note for those interested: If you've read the latest newsletter, you might have seen the new segment shaders coming to X9, the biggie being normal mapping for segments and static geometry (finally!). The cool thing now is that I've implemented GPU-accelerated FOG into the shaders, which previously did not work with shader effects. And it's fully scriptable, you can set near/far distance, and color. I think fog is an underused effect, it can really add a sense of depth to your levels even when used subtly. Or bring it in nice and tight for a claustrophic feeling. And it works with characters too, it's really eerie seeing a character looming in the distance, shrouded by a layer of fog.

Thanks, and I'm sure there are generous folks who would donate. But selling a pack for profit AND asking for donations to cover my costs doesn't feel right. It would be like asking for donations to help cover my software purchases. I'm confident the pack will make money in the long run, I just won't see a nice payback up front like the old days, but that's ok.

That makes sense. But I feel that the ESRB is treating you unfairly, and I think it would help you. But do what you wish.

Well then at least you have a hefty supply of pills for when the goings get tough and you need an inspiration boost

Imagination seems to be lacking in your latest characters, we've seen copies of the Tank and now ordinary zombies from Left 4 Dead, as well as characters heavily inspired by Doom 3 and various other games.

You got me there, but if you look at the main TGC page at their weekly bestseller list, my Gore pack is the ONLY model pack that is consistently on that list every single week. And I'll bet this new pack will be on that list as well. People be lovin' the zombies.

I'm not getting any points for creativity, but I still get a certain satisfaction with recreating bits of my favorite games in FPSC, like the bioshock water effects, and animated lighting shaders in MP38.

I do love zombies it has to be said,
I still think that an update to the sci-fi genre (mainly weapons) would go down well. It's a genre that hasn't been touched by any model packs (official ones anyway).

A decent sci-fi pack would definitely have my money, in fact, any model pack made by you has my money to be honest

Rick just copied me on an email from ESRB, they have the submission in their posession and it's under review. So as long as everything was submitted to their liking it shouldn't be long now!

Still waiting on ESRB approval. There were 2 ridiculously minor errors on the submission, causing it to be rejected. After 3 submission errors ESRB slaps you with a fine! These guys are anal beyond belief. And the "strikes" against you last for a year.

Once this finally does get released, if I see this up on any Rapidshare sites, I swear to God I'm gonna lose it.

Oh my, lovely people to have to deal with by the sounds of it! Lovely indeed. Upon rejection does your submission go right back to the bottom of the pile before it comes up again? Or will they look at it again immediately following whatever necessary corrections are made?

Wow. Though I suppose it's to be expected. They do pretty much monopolize the game ratings market, so they can get away with just about anything they want. I take it you won't be selling the L4D zombies on your own through Paypal then? I'd gladly fire up PayPal any time of day to get these while the ESRB fumbles around with paperwork and silly fines for the next three months

EDIT: Out of curiousity, if you make any future zombie model packs, but this time without the blood and gore, and just release a FREE texture pack on the forums to give them the blood, and other goodies the ESRB is crazy about, would you be able to bypass the rating and save yourself $800?

Could be worse I suppose; at least we know they had got to your submission by now though, so a release date is definitely not too too far from now. I guess, depending on your level of patience of course

What a hassle though I mean, it's their job to review and rate material and yet they act as though you're giving them an inconvenience in attempting to have this approved for sale, hah. Funny world we live in.

My money is ready and willing however, as always

Cheers

Yeah they can pretty much do whatever they want, the "errors" were purely arbitrary, stuff that wasn't explained to their satifaction type of things.

I don't know if setting up a paypal option is worth the hassle. I know from experience that I'll get 5-6 sales, the thread will drop from the main page, and after that I might get one email inquiry a month about them, or "hey dude I really need these can I get these for free lol" type of emails.

Yeah. A buy it now button and all of that would be a little much with the pack set for release anyway. I was actually just talking about offering the L4D models in traditional zip format. I.E., someone sends you payment, and then you send the zip file to their email. when the official pack makes the homepage, the Paypal thing stops.

But don't listen to me, I'm just trying to say whatever I can to get the zombies a few weeks ahead of schedule. It'd be nice to get them now, but I can wait another month or so...if I have to
