I've been working with Sketchup (free) to create some models. If the models are small, the issues are not major.

Sketchup allows you to texture the model quite nicely- however each texture is exported separately and the model must be set to dynamic in FPSC.

For larger models, there is no collision- you can walk right through them unless you add bones.

Another problem appears to be that the models themselves "blink out" and disappear if you get too close to them at certain angles.

Are there any solutions for this?

Yep. Make models with oanother tool, since sketchup is not designed to create models for games. But you can use it if you UV map your models. And that coliision issue. Set your model to static. That will destroy it's textures since it's multi textured, but now it has collision.

Best texture of the Month.
Yay.

Thanks for the response.

I retextured the item and made a UV map using Fragmotion's built in texture tool, but its not as accurate as Sketchup's fill face texture painting feature. It also takes A LOT longer to paint the models when I'm not using Sketchup.

Making the item static did work, but unfortunately, sometimes I like my objects to run scripts. Although I can adapt to that, its another drawback.

MaskedMakrel,
Can you send me your files using my email button? I think I might know what is happening but want to be sure before I speculate. Sometimes when creating with sketchup something goes a little screwy that does not effect the model in sketchup but it does in your exporter. I have made and entire leveling using sketchup and did not have any issues, they did disappear at certain angle, but that was with 1.18 BETA 3 and I am pretty sure it was just the way that BETA was handling culling.

In the meantime look at my sketchup tutorial here (halfway down):

What version of Sketch-up are you using?? Also what .x exporter are you using?? I know there's a couple of .x exporters for sketch-up and I was having alot of trouble with the one myself and then when I upgraded to sketch-up 8 I downloaded a different exporter and haven't had nearly as many problems.
