Great movie, better than the second, although, not as much space combat as I would have liked :3 There was some flaws where Kirk and that old guy were talking about going after
SPOILER

and on the desk were all the models of types of space ships, and the Dreadnaught class was at the end and Kirk saw them, but when it warped to them, he was like, Oh my god! What is that thing! I have never seen it before!?!? So I was like, dude, come on xD

How is it not Star Trek?

I know it's not exactly the same style as Gene Roddenberry had back in the '60s - '91, but I find it to have many of the same elements (Kirk being a womanizer, Bones being afraid of transporters and other space-related things). I think they did a brilliant job with the reboot back in '09.

And this movie was simply incredible! Loved the parallels between this and the original timeline's crew's encounter with SPOILER
.

I really hope there's a third movie, perhaps as a sequel to this. I'd love to see what they can do! Benedict Cumberbatch (I had no idea who he was until I started seeing previews for this movie) is an insanely good actor. He had me gripped to the screen within .01 seconds!

Alternate timeline, ridiculous technology, ludicrous storylines. It's still great though, just not Star Trek how it used to be.

And The Original Series wasn't full of any of that?

Nothing could ever be Star Trek as it used to be. Only Gene Roddenberry was able to truly see his vision of how Star Trek should be. People have come close to reproducing his intent, but I'm sure no one will ever be able to capture one's imagination the way that he did. Although JJ Abrams did a pretty good job (but REALLY could have cut down on lens flares, dear God...).

Oh TOS isn't real trek, Roddenberry himself said that TNG was his true vision of what Star Trek should have been.
