Hi, I'm creating a program that allows the user to place mod files into an add-on directory that the program can read. Does Smart Packer allow for the creation of unencrypted folders on the hard drive?

Thanks.

Hi, if the add-on directory is inside the main executable folder it will probably work. Creation of folders outside the main executable folder is currently not allowed.

However we can put support for this feature on our road map.

Thanks for the reply.

I think I see what you mean - I'll give the demo a go.

This program looks to be exactly what I'm looking for if it can allow me to use a real directory outside of the virtual directories.

Anyhow, thanks again for your time

I've tried the demo. I had the smart packer produced executable sitting in the c:\program files\myprogram folder that also contained a real directory called "addons".

However, the demo gives a 'runtime error 8003 - Could not find path at line x'

I'm guessing that as you said in your above post 'if the add-on directory is inside the main executable folder it will "probably" work' - that means that this result isn't entirely unexpected? Do you think that there a way around this at all?

Thanks again.

@ActionSaxon:

I don't think accessing a real folder this way is possible. You could try to use a plug-in (DLL) which accesses a real folder (files).

Also check out the download feature which allows to download f.e. a zip file which could be used in your program.

We will investigate if an option for accessing real files in Compatibility Mode is possible.

Please send me an e-mail about the details of your project. Maybe we can come up with an other solution.
